eDiets.com?

So, I already hate the trendy DotCom era name but I was referred to it by my gym as something I might be interested in. I don't have any details but apparently the gym membership comes with a discount for orders through that site too so that's more enticing I suppose.

I already seem to spend 100$ a week on food (a 7 day week)
they basically offer a custom diet prepared and shipped to you in a cooler every week for 5 days worth of food. (knowing me it would last 7 anyway, I don't eat MUCH, I just have problems being consistent with the dietary discipline since I'm not a fan of grocery stores, or any retail environments to be honest, nor do I cook. I'm a hopeless cause in the kitchen.

Anyways, the price looks to be about 130ish at a glance and they're offering a free week to try it out so I guess that entices me even more since it's like food for half price.

Sooo does anyone have personal experience with this service? Seems like it's right up my alley. Sad as that sounds.

I've managed to shed 11lbs via my own effort but I totally cracked last week and had like 3 medium pizza's leftover from my movie night that I managed to eat throughout the week, as well as some nasty fatty drive thru trips via jack in the box/taco bell, because I really didn't want to go restock.

i know this may be a little late, but are you looking at this from a health point of view or a monetary one?

diets never last. just ask she-lish. she's a dietitian. it's a lifestyle change you need to make, rather than try any sort of diet.

without looking at the website, im assuming that if foods are frozen and can last for a few days, albeit in the freezer, they're either high in sugar or high in salt..or both. whichever way you look at it, its a double edged sword.

The 5 day plan would be $97 a week. They also charge $20 to ship, so $117.

If you're thinking of going this type of route, check out what might also be available where you live. Here we have Diets To Go, where they deliver the meals to you. they're made locally, so a little fresher than being shipped on ice.

In fact diet to go is cheaper, I just checked it out.

I don't have any experience with that service, but for that kind of price, I would learn to cook. My wife and I eat out maybe once or twice a month, and including that we spend less than $100 a week combined on food. We buy in bulk and freeze most of what we buy when it gets home.

The other part of this is what dlish brought up because it is fundamentally the most important truth of 'diets'. Any temporary changes are a waste of time. Any temporary changes are a waste of time. (That was not a typo, I was simply reiterating that any temporary changes are a waste of time. Ok you probably got it now, moving on...)

Unless you're planning on doing this forever, you might want to look into what your going to do after you quit. That is where you're going to end up anyway, so you may be able to save yourself some time and money by just skipping the whole meal delivery bit and going straight to that.

Well, now that I think about it, if you start this you could use it to wean yourself into cooking. For example, prepare the other two days worth of meals yourself, or maybe 1 meal a day for the week, something. After a few weeks bump it to 3 days of cooking or to 10 meals a week - however. That way you when you screw up a few meals you won't be starving because of it. The important thing to note is that you're using this as a temporary crutch to assist you into making a permanent change. It isn't a solution, it's a means to a solution.
