Wanna order a pizza?

What toppings do you normally get? Crust preference?

If it's the typical delivery (Dominos, Pizza Hut, etc.,) it's usually extra cheese, mushrooms and pepperoni for me on hand-tossed crust. For a change of pace, I'll occasionally get thin crust. In Italian restaurants, I'm all over white pizzas. Spinach and mushroom is a great combination as well.

Oh dear god. You lost me at Pizza Hut and Dominos. Do me a favor and take whatever corn syrup beverage bottle they brought with your last order, fill it with gasoline, stuff a rag in the top and go firebomb whichever outlet you bought from. Those two places shouldn't be allowed to call what they serve "pizza".

There are some chains I like - Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, for instance - but I tend to go for the neighborhood places because they're a whole lot better. I live a 10 minute walk away from what's supposed to be the "Best Pizza in America" (Great Lakes Pizza Co - at least according to GQ), and it's next door to my favorite neighborhood French restaurant (La Tache). It's Great Lakes Pizza, and it's not even the best pizza in the neighborhood (it is on that block, though).

But what do I get on mine? Depends, really. There's a really good margarheta pizza that I like at one place, and a really good goat cheese and tomato one at another. My wife is picky about sausage (which I love), so there's yet another place that we get sausage and mushrooms from when we're both in the mood. Great Lakes has a damn good pepperoni that they use on their pizza, and when I'm ready to invest the time it takes to get one from them, that's where I like to go.

We have Mellow Mushroom here too, but none are close enough where I can pick one up for carryout. I have had their pizza a few times and it was good though.

Hey Jazz - guess what?
I eat Little Ceaser's sometimes too.

When I'm up north, I must find a Pizzeria Uno's. Dear God that stuff melts in your mouth.

Mmmmm, pizza!

I like thin crust and occasionally order it, but I generally go for Sicilian-style pizzas with thicker crust and lots of toppings. My all-time favorite is Joe Peeps, in North Hollywood (I used to live just two blocks away - ah, good times. Good times.)

Their pizza is briefly explained on the menu:

Quote:
PIZZA U have a choice of pizza styles: Our famous pizza (the 5969-calorie pizza) with a thick fluffy, yeast-dough crust (although the center is thin), where the dough is made fresh everyday and it rises for 24 hours before use, lots of REAL mozzarella cheese, and our own home-made sauce (made with fresh parmessan cheese and garlic).

OR, a thin crusted pizza (called the "Blue Collar" Pizza) with the same ingredients, only a whole lot less. The "Blue Collar" is good for true NY-style pizza Aficionados(?), or for snacking, or for people who don't have mucho dollars, (buy the "Blue Collar" for the kids and get the good one for yourself!).
The 5969-calorie pizza is outstanding, but my favorite is the House Special:

Quote:
An 8-Pound Pizza with Pepperoni, Meatball, Canadian Bacon, Sausage, Mushroom, Onion, Black Olive, Green Pepper, Pepperoncini, & Anchovies if Requested
Sadly, I now live too far away to have my favorite pizza delivered - although they would deliver it, if I had enough money. Sez so, right on the menu.

Living in the Greater Chicago area, we are absolutely spoiled when it comes to good pizza. When I travel, I feel so sorry for people who have to eat from the typical chain places.

Give me some Rosati's, Lou Malnati's, Gino's East, Giordanno's, or a dozen other local spots. I am a major carnivore, so pepperoni, sausage, bacon, canadian bacon, and garlic.

Downtown Denver has mario's two fisted pizza with a thin crust that my wife and I love. Otherwise, in Colorado you have to try Beaujo's mountain pizza. Get the high altitude mountain man pizza. It is all meat and stout. The crust is so thick around the edge that they serve it with honey because the crust is so sweet and tender. We go to the one in Boulder, otherwise I hit the original in Idaho Springs coming back from skiing. So good after skiing!

My favorite pizza place ever is Ha Ha Pizza in Yellow Springs, Ohio. I get the whole wheat crust with mushrooms, green olives, spinach and extra sauce. They also offer some odd topping selections, like bananas, broccoli, and eggplant... which I totally want to try.

The mush/olives/spin/xsauce combo is my favorite ever, but I'm pretty flexible when it comes to sharing (and if it comes down to it, half-and-half is always an option.) I absolutely won't do onions or black olives, though. Ew.

The last pizza I had was a Pizza Hut gut buster. I had forgotten how greasy they are. Not a fan of the hut, but I was busy, wife offered to buy delivery. I worked as a pizza chef in college at a place in Concord, NC called Villa Maria. I've never had pizza as good as theirs, especially the sicilian. They also do a great antipasto.

Mushrooms and pepperoni is my base, then I'll usually add something random on top.

If available i usually sprinkle black pepper and a ton of Parmesan cheese on top.

I tend to prefer real round pies from pizzerias and not pizza hut or domino's.

Any of the veg specials from my local favorite, American Dream Pizza, will suffice. My perennial choice is the margharita (which apparently the President ate when he came through here last year), but I also really like the Edward Abbey (pesto sauce, feta, artichoke heart, sun-dried tomato), the Alvord Desert (cheddar, black beans, black olive, cilantro, tomato salsa), and the Bill Walton (mushroom, black olive, green pepper, red onion, fresh tomato, zucchini).

And in Chicago--the Giordano's Super Veggie is awesome!

I can not stand pizza from Domino's or Pizza Hut, they do not make their dough fresh and you can tell...bleh!

I worked at Little Caesar's for too long to really enjoy it anymore, but when I did work there my fave pizza to take home was no sauce, extra cheese, pepperoni, Canadian bacon and pineapple with a side of ranch. mmm mmm freakin' awesome!

Our standard pizza is pep and mushroom, a good basic.

Near school there is a pizza joint, Bella Napolis, that made the best pizzas. Anything from white sauce with tomatoes, spinach and ricotta to a stuffed pizza that would clog your arteries in a minute. Every meal was made complete with a fresh order of garlic knots (you could actually see the chunks of fresh garlic) and the best marinara ever. To top it all off, the owners son was like the "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld. He even made smrt pronounce marinara properly (like an Italian) before he would give him any.

X1,000, however, I have to admit that I order from one of them every month or so. I live in a wasteland of pizza. Aside from a couple of crappy generic pizzarias, for at least 10 miles in any direction from my house, there are only national garbage chains.

For local chains in AZ I really like Barro's and Streets of New York.

I'm a purist, pepperoni is my default. But either sausage, ham, mushrooms or pineapples are nice additions every now and then.

There are two local places that I really want to check out here in Phoenix:

Pizzeria Bianco
La Piazza al Forno

Home made all the way. Thin crust base using Jamie Oliver's recipe.

Toppings?
salami (I'd like it hot, but my children don't so, usually mild hungarian)
ham
olives
mushrooms
capsicum (bell pepper)
tomato sauce/paste base
cheese - tasty/mozzarella/feta

pretty much any and all of the above.

To buy? gotta be local places over a chain. There's a little place around the corner from my brothers place in Breakfast Point - their seafood pizza is to die for - yum. No idea what the name of the place is, but I know exactly where it is

In terms of types of pizza, I'm not picky. I can go with either thin crust, deep dish, whatever. Give me a good pizza with a good strong beer and I'm happy.

As for toppings, I'm ridiculously simple: Extra pepperoni and extra cheese. Now and again I'll go with a supreme, but I love my pizzas simple.

I'd have to disagree with new man on Beau Jo's. The crust's too much for me. Best pizza chain in Denver: Anthony's. Best cheap pizza chain in Denver: Blackjack.

There's also Pasquini's. I haven't had their stuff in a while, but if you're a garlic lover, there's nothing better here in the Mile High City.

Japanese pizza

This is a scan of a Japanese pizza menu. I get these all the time in my mailbox. *Edit: I can't seem to post the scan. I'll keep trying.

The pizza at the top is the "Seafood King". Toppings are: onion, green pepper, tuna flakes, shrimp, squid rings, scallops, special mayonnaise, and fried garlic. Yes, mayonnaise.

On the row below that from left to right:

"Teri-mayo double cheese" (for kids): Teriyaki sauce (instead of tomato), onion, mushroom, sweet corn, bacon, mayo, black pepper, parsley.

"German Potato": onion, tomato, bacon, potato.

"5 vegetable and mozzarella": onion, green pepper, mushrooms, sweet corn, cauliflower, and mozzarella.

Next row, left to right:

"Tomato Mozzarella": Bacon, fresh tomato, tomato-olive oil sauce, mozzarella.

"Supercross" (1/4 each) Super Mix, Corn Gratin, Cheese-Tomato, German Potato.

"Margaretta" Tomato-olive oil sauce, double basil, mozzarella

Yes, you read correctly. Corn, potato, squid, scallops, mayonnaise, cauliflower, teriyaki sauce. On pizza. Domino's and Pizza Hut tried to make it here with traditional American pizza and failed. Domino's Japanized their menu, and Pizza Hut retreated to the military bases.

I make my own pizza here!
