Does Lox cream cheese smell this bad??
Hello all,
I've never tried Lox cream cheese before and we bought one packaged in a store and opened it and it smelled so bad, I mean VERy bad...like rotten cheese or something. Is that how it's supposed to smell? Or is the store just putting out expired cream cheese for us to consume? Thanks for any help. Last edited by dawnoffawn; 11-16-2007 at 06:07 PM.. |

Hello Ratbastid, Thanks for your help.
Yes, I know: it is cheese and lox (salmon). That's why I stated it as Lox cream cheese. It does not smell like fish, however. It smells like stinky rotten cheese (or a very stinky wet towel). Is this how it's supposed to smell? |

In my experience, lox cream cheese shouldn't smell any different from regular cream cheese when properly refrigerated. Or any flavored cream cheese, for that matter. If it doesn't pass the smell test, run away. The smell test is good. For lots of things. If it smells like "eeewwwww!" DON"T EAT IT!!!

If you have the chutzpah, bring it back to the store. Always check dates on dairy items, some stores are infamous for not rotating stock. |
