Tell me about Taffy - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

So, what is taffy? I have heard about it before, but I gather it was invented in the US and so I have never seen it in Europe. I'd love you guys to tell me what you know about it and what it tastes like. I wonder do we have any similar candy here in Europe? I saw a recipe and it said you need to use corn syrup - what is that in Europe?

Good luck finding corn syrup in Europe, lol. The only reason why it's so dominant on the sugar market here is because we have an outrageously strong corn lobby. They put high fructose corn syrup into everything. Blech.

Taffy is basically a chewy candy that's been around for ages. The most common form here in the United States is salt-water taffy, which you can buy at almost any seaside resort candy store here. It's easily made at home, but most people don't like the muscle it involves: the taffy must be pulled to attain its chewy nature.

Personally, I don't eat much taffy--I have too much dental work and nothing pulls out fillings like taffy.

actually it's not like toffee. the best way I can describe it is.. it's like gum .. without the gum. It comes in several flavors and is quite good.

It seems really bizzare that there are people in civilized countries that don't know the joys of taffy.
