i read on another forum that people think michael maybe sick, as he was reading msgs from walt, but jack could not see them, possibly the first member to get the sickness?
very good episode, and i also agree that the black smoke could ruin it, but i hope the writers have some good story for it |

Over at Fark.com, in the official discussion thread from yesterday, some people posted TIVO'd screen caps taken from the "smoke's" point of view. In them you can see some images from Eko's memories, leading to speculation that the little nano beasties can read your mind, or at least judge you in some way.
Link: http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comm...IDLink=1852377 Just beware that by the end of the thread, joke images are being photoshopped in for fun. Also, a farker called StubePT, posted the following, which I think is neat: Quote:

How much more frightening would it have been if they had just cut back and forth between Mr. Eko staring it down and Charlie wetting himself interlaced with gutteral growling and first-person camera shots from the 'monster's' POV? One of the reasons I've always enjoyed Lost was the fact that strange shit happens, but not strange enough to require an outlandish explanation. I guess Michael is finally cracking up, eh? And good for Charlie. I don't know what he's planning, but it's nice to have an 'escape' plan. If faced with starving to death, getting eaten by a polar bear, beaten to death by the 'others' or floating off to oblivion....I'd probably have to go with oblivion. Edit: Just checked out the Fark thread and there was a reference to Eko's name and the word Echo (empty copy). I thought that was interesting since during one of the flashbacks Eko's brother told him he had no soul.

found it... its season one episode 4 about 30 minutes into the episode without commercials
locke is hunting boar and he's chasing one and then all of a sudden there are monster sounds and the trees start shaking. Then it goes from the monsters point of view as the monster pushes through the trees and goes down towards him. Locke has a look of awe on his face, and then it cuts to something else I think thats locke getting tested by the black smoke.

Well there you go. In that case, I would say that Eko, "not having a soul" isn't the issue here.
Perhaps it is their spirituality or even their lack of fear when it comes to death.

I still like your (original) theory that they're all due for redemption. Eko and Locke have both been tested and found 'worthy' as being good people (although they believe/pursue different things). They have gotten over the skelletons in their closets.
Once again, IMHO (based off Char's HO ). |

Interesting Latch. That fits with the theory nicely.
One question, why did the smoke try to take Locke when they had the dynamite?

to those who replied to my post:
Im actually not a rookie. Ive been watching since the beginning. I guess i dont remember Anna Lucia, which is weird cause i would think i would have remembered Michelle Rodriguez. As for the statues, I guess I should have worded it differently. My thinking is that Charlie isnt going to start using again. I just dont see it happening. So why does he have a whole pile of statues buried. Maybe he's planning a mass suicide if they dont get rescued. Or maybe he wants to cash in when they do get rescued. |

The drug plane came from Africa. The idea of it going halfway around the world all the way to the middle of the Pacific Ocean is very unlikely. Either the island is moving, one of the planes was flying a very strange detour, or there is some sort of warp.
Official websites on the net(http://www.thehansofoundation.org/) keep referencing an island in Zanzibar or something, which is much closer to Africa, there could be some sort of connection between the two islands. |

Last night's episode sure made it seem like Michael was losing a few of his marbles... Speaking of last nights show, another mediocre effort in my opinion. Bringing in the others was just another example of the writers dangling a carrot that really provides the viewer with nothing new, nothing important and nothing that develops the plot. I did predict the 'army' idea that Jack proposed to Anna Lucia at the end of the show... That would make for an excellent season finale, although I don't forsee it ending this season, maybe next...

Daoust... isn't the whole premise of the show to continually dangle carrots and to slowly reveal more information (while creating more questions).
That is the whole point of Lost. I thought the episode was fine. We have a little more of Jack's background, though I still wonder why his Dad ended up as he did. Sawyer and Kate seem a little bit closer, Michael is nuts, the Korean couple has reached a new plateau in their relationship and Hurley has the hots for the psychiatrist. I'd say, quite a bit of character development occurred.

I know it's all about character development. I know. But I think I just got used to the idea of huge chunks of plot development being thrown at me, and then when it turns into pebbles, I am left disillusioned, hungy....
I just wish, like heywhatsup, that Jack would have asked more questions to the others. So much to know. So much to ask... But nothing!!! NOTHING! I know. THey'll meet up with the others again soon, have another directionless conversation, and leave again. I'll just have to wait till then.

I think "zeke"s analogy was dumbass. If I went over to somebody's house for the first time and they started kidnapping and killing my friends and family, then damn strait I'm gonna trounce all through their house.
And when jack's wife said she had been seeing someone else, and she was leaving, I'd have been all about jumpin in the car and going back to a little grieving latino hottie action.

Well, I thought it was an amazing episode. Nice interaction with the "others". Sawyer's, or should i say James', last words...."Me and you aint done Zeke". It got my blood pumping. I think people need to realize this isnt a mini-series. They are going to make this last as long as possible. Its at the top of the ratings chart. Why would they want it to end. The "dangling carrots" are what make this show what it is. Im really surprised at the response to this episode.

Oh yeah, Jack's dad? I dont think so. Sawyer, definitely has some possibilities, but i doubt it. I think Jack's wife leaving him isnt going to be a big secret we are waiting for the answers to. For it to be a part of the story, the person would probably have to be on the island. And i think Jack would have noticed them by now.

Jack is inspirational to me. I just know the writers are going to show me he is a piece of crap or something. I am not the cheating type and don't think it would have happened to me, but that being said, having the old guy die on the table must have been pretty emotional for him. I suppose I could see how she kissed him and he kissed her back. The integrity that it took to tell his wife was really something else. He didn't wait days or longer to tell her. He told her straight away. What could not have been easy. I really enjoy the charachter development in the show and the depth. It is interesting to show the "good guys finish last / girls like the bad boy" stuff with Kate. Looking at it the way they present it, Kate hates herself and so being around Jack makes her make uncomfortable realizations about herself. Therefore, she can be happy withherself when she can comiserate with "Sawyer". Wonder how many times that is the case with gals in the real world?

My current theory:
This show is starting to get boring. Get to the point. Start answering some questions that are left over from the first season before introducing new questions. Stop showing flashbacks that add nothing to the story line.

Guess I'm the one Oddball here that has a few gripes with LOST. I did
not like it at first...then I read where it was a SCIENCE FICTION show? so I started looking and liked it more. My main gripe is it takes TOO long to tell the story...should move faster. WHERE is the SCI-FI stuff? (Yes the mystery animals, the computer in the underground Bunker. When are they going to find the crashed ALIEN Flying Saucer?) STOP all of the flashbacks about the people. We know their stories by now. I still think X FILES was the best TV program. Mulder and Sculley running around chasing all kinds of UFOs,Aliens and various monsters and they did a whole show in an HOUR. Yes, they never got the goods on the Mystery men: Cigarette Smoking Man, ect. CHRIS CARTER was the best guy in creating a cool TV program. Now all the good shows are on ABC. DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES,GREY'S ANATOMY,BOSTON LEGAL and Fox's "24". |

Speaking of "24": I know this will NEVER HAPPEN but I'd LOVE to see a
episode where Jack Bauer is busy as Hell, saving us from Atomic Bombs, keeping the No-good President alive and stopping the terrorists from blowing up everything when......the most beautiful babe in the world wants him to join her in her hotel bedroom.......and there is a closeup of Jack's sweaty face and his mind is going crazy.......and finally he makes a decision.(Probably show ends here or whole year ends to hold over Summer break. What does Jack do? Probably he says NO to her right? Last edited by RonRyan85; 01-28-2006 at 10:54 AM.. |

There is something seriously wrong with Libby. First off, she told Hurley that he stepped on her foot when he got on the plane, which does not make sense because she was in the back of the plane! Hurley was in the front of the plane when he was making his entrance. So, he didn't step on anyone's foot.
Secondly, this little lie might lead to the two of them meeting at the psych ward. This is just a theory, but perhaps she was in there for being a compulsive liar. I am not exactly sure if they place people in a ward for that kind of thing. Also, Libby mentioned the fact that the washer/dryer set was the only thing new in the hatch. Why would the hatch contain old computers from the 70's and have new washer/dryer units? |

Hurley definanately stepped on someone's feet getting on the plane. I don't have that episode so I can't check. Can some else check?
The fact that she was in the front doesn't mean much. Bernard was in the front when they took off but in the back for the crash (he was in the bathroom).

@RonRyan: this is probably gonna sound prickish, but people who like this show for the "science fiction" aspect to it are never, ever going to be satisfied with where the show ends up. Given what they've introduced, there is nothing that can act as a fitting tell-all explanation. soo... be prepared for dissapointment.
The characters (flashbacks included!) are the meat and potatoes of this show. oh yea, and I think that Hurley knowing Libby from the nut house is a good call. Didn't he ask Libby if he's met her before? Something tells me he's referring to an occasion prior to the plane ride....
