Howard Stern and Sirius!!

All of you must of heard by now that stern is going to satellite radio. This means he will be able to say anything he wants! As a Stern fan for ten years I can't wait for this!

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think people are going to get satellite radio just for Stern? Fuck the FCC or do we need it? People can just turn the dial if they don't like what they hear.

I'm not personally a Stern fan, but I would assume Hardcore sten fans would go to Sirus for him, since Opie and Anthony had tons of fans go to XM just to hear them...

True. I would have never bought sirius if I didn't know Stern was going.

Stern Rules!!! He's so hip and such an innovator, Sirius will explode after a short time of him being broadcast. He has a lot of artistic input into programming and organization of the medium. He'll be a huge success and Sirius stock will sky-rocket. Jump on board now while the stock is low....

Stern was hilarious in 1984! What, he's still around? He's STILL doing lesbian jokes?

MEH!

Check out Tilted Forum Project - Howard Stern is going to Sirius satellite radio for earlier discussion on this. I think the most interesting analysis was by pan:

And his free market won't accept him back because he turned his back on them. Stern is smart he probably already knows this.

Having said that I see Sirius gaining some serious subscriptions at first (pardon the pun... it was intended), however, I see them losing a vast majority they gain once Howard gets stale (unless they get better more diverse programming, which they might).

I truly love Howard and this would increase my chances of hearing him, but I think it's career suicide.

I think he's still funny with characters like Beetlejuice and Jeff the drunk. Artie Lange is a great addition to the show. I think the show is just getting started. I can't wait for sirrius!!

Recently and without warning, my favourite local station switched to a generic mix format. There is nothing wrong with the new format per se (Jack FM), but the loss of those entertaining voices that I really cared about was devastating. If I could afford it, I would absolutely get hooked up in order to leave commercial radio behind.

While I won't be going to satellite just because of Stern, I bet he will attract a lot of subscribers as well as bring the medium into the forefront. Howard Stern represents edgy and non-conformist programming (juvenile and crass though it is) and I imagine many listeners will sign up out of desperation once he is gone.

Last April Fools, Stern replaced his show with a fake morning show featuring an inane high-energy pair of hosts for a full hour. I know the constrast was a shock for my morning routine, and I think that this sense of loss will be the real motivator for many to subscribe.

As a side note, I recently cancelled my Digital TV cable in favour of basic because I have been disappointed by the dearth of original programming. It seems that every one of those 500 channels shows the same reruns of improvement and makeover shows. Bah...

I love internet radio stations and have a lot of hope for satellite radio. Let's hope it can deliver what it promises.

Another point...

Howard Stern has built his identity around his role as a victim of censorship and pariah of the establishment. Without the boogeyman of the FCC and The MAN on his back, he may just lose his relevance.
