Spiderman III - Conjecture and commentary
I was shocked to see there was no Spiderman 3 thread... what kind of nerds are you people?
I just read that Topher Grace has been cast in the movie. This brings the cast to Tobey McGuire. Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Tom Church and now 'Foreman.' linkydinky Quote:
Anyone else care to take a guess? |
I wouldn't mind it if Spidey3 had a sexy villain in it.

From the way the second one ended, I would guess that Venom won't be around until the 4th in the series. Ideally, I would think that they'd build up Eddie Brock's character a bit more while Spidey fights Green Goblin 2 and possibly the Lizard. They can set up Spidey's black costume and hand it over to Brock at the end of the third.
Chloe Sevigny is probably going to be Black Cat, not quite a villain, but probably a counter love-interest to Mary Jane. |
I never saw Spider Man 2. Is it worth it?
|
Yes. Absolutely.
|
Never much cared for Chloë Sevigny.
I'd like to see someone play The Vulture. Maybe Ben Kingsley. |
I can't possibly speculate as to who's going to play what villian as I don't know nearly enough of the Spider-verse to make any sort guess.
However, Raimi (and his crew, for that matter) has done a spectacular job with the last two Spiderman movies, I expect this one to be no different. Just like the Lord of the Rings trilogy before, and now, the Harry Potter movies, I'm definately excited about the upcoming installments. It's in good hands. |
Topher Grace = Carnage
*they did say he would play somebody completely opposite from his good-guy image But definitely Green Goblin and/or Lizard should be in SM3. They need to dedicate a whole movie to the black suit and Venom. |
I woulnd't expect them to introduce villans or heros in order considering they started with the Green Goblin. I would have gone with the Lizard for SM1, Doc Oc for SM2 (with different casting for Doc Oc), Hobgoblin for SM3, Alien suit/Venom for SM4, Mysterio and Green Goblin for SM5, Venom Seperation anxiety for SM6, and Jackel/Maximum Clonage/Scarlet Spider for SM7. SM8 would be the end of the series featuring Peter the Clone retiring, and Ben going on as Spiderman. Wait 10 or 15 years, then start again.
Of course, I am not in charge. I would very much like to see Dylan Baker come in as the Lizard for SM3 (not jump right back into the Green Goblin storyline). It might be interesting to start getting into the biological aspects of Spiderman, as opposed to the lite hero philosophy we've been getting (i.e. what is a hero? why should I be a hero? etc). We could even have Spiderman begin to undergo his transformations. |

And your right, they do need to do something to shake the new movie up a bit and exploring the other avenues (other than blandly following the villian-o-matic storyline) would certainly do that. |
Venom will not be in the third Spiderman. I'd rather see Carnage myself.

The Film magazine I read says that TH Church is going to play Sandman. *FACT*
I'm happy with that casting and Sandman has always been one of my favourite villians |
They may cast actors against type, but they do tend to cast them to physically resemble, at least in some way, the character from the comics. Topher Grace is tall and thin. He's not going to be the Man-Wolf or Lizard, as those parts are already taken by actors in the first two movies, and he's not right for either. Carnage doesn't work unless you have Venom first; Carnage is kinda like venom upgraded and nastier.
Of the major villains, they've hit the big two; Goblin and Doctor Octopus. Of the biggies, I'm thinking Electro would be the best fit for Grace. He hasn't been used yet, and he'd make for a good secondary villain along with Sandman and Green Goblin 2. I though Molina was perfect as Doc Ock. He had the look, and he's able to pull of the nice guy genius scientist part and deliver lines like "I'll peel the flesh from her bones" with equal aplomb. Remember, this is a different Doc Ock than the comics, where he was an egomaniac that everyone hated before the accident with the arms slowly drove him insane. |
I bet Topher Grace is gonna be Quentin Beck (Mysterio).

I dont think they'll ever touch Carnage... you cant do Carnage without an R rating.
|
^Too true, he's a sick fuck.
Anyways, I'll wait on some more developments before offering any conjecture. |
Could be they'll bring in a totally new villian. Highly doubt it tho. Personally, I would like to see a creative new villian that hasn't appeared in the comic yet.

Personally, I really REALLY want to see Venom and Carnage. But as Halx pointed out, you can't do a true Carnage without a R rating. How unfortunate.. |
I think they should stay far far away from the symbiotes.
Not to say I wouldn't geek out if I saw a movie Spidey Venom fight BUT...I don't think the character would translate well to the big screen. I mean the cartoon arleady alterted Brock/Venom enough changing it from the costume Spidey picked up during the Secret Wars to some thing that Jameson's son brought back from the moon on accident. And even that would be too ridiculous for the movies. Much less with Carnage...Spidey's old costume had a baby? Nobody would watch that. Classic Spider-man has plenty of interesting villains to play off of without needing to go into Venom. Mysterio,Kraven,Hobogoblin,Electro,Lizard,Green Goblin 2(which they HAVE to do in my opinion). And that leaves out guys like Shocker,Rhino,Hydroman,Tombstone...etc... Personally I just want to see two more movies after number three. A Sinister Six story with six of any of the above villains. With Black Cat there to add some stress to Newlywed Spider-man and to help out in the final fight. Then the last one with the big final confrontation between Harry and Peter. |
One thing to consider about who the next Spider-Man villian is going to be; is how that character is going to translate to live-action. In the comics you really can do anything, and a skillful artist can make it look good and if not belivable, at least plausible. However in a movie it has too look realistic and should not be overly original.
I think it's that issue that ultimately lead to the Hulk being a failure at the box office, even tho I thought it was good. The movie going public just wasn't able to get past the big green monster in purple pants... c'mon, it's fucking ridiculous. I fear the same issue will befall a character like Venom or Carnage... they're bad guy psychos who are covered in a living goo? Uhh... no thanks. Even Sandman and Hydro-Man seem to fall in to that same trap... Give me a guy who: **has robotic arms and smashes stuff **can shoot lightining from his hands ...those are your money bad guys. Powers the great unwashed movie-going public can get behind. I'm curious to see how they pull off Sandman (if the rumours are true) I hope it goes well. |
