CSI: Crime Scene Investigations

Ok, last nite was the season finale for the orginal season.

Who watched and who was blown away as much as I was? As much as I love this show, and plan my tv schedule around it I have to say last nite was the best episode ever, IMO.

I was sitting on the edge of the bed when they found the first buried box and about fell off when it was a dog. When the ants started on Nick I was actually in pain lol I have been hospitilzed for 10 fire ant bites (Im highly allergic) and I just couldnt imagine having to go thru something like that.

I could have done without the scene in the end with the daughter, but I feel like she will probably resurface somewhere in the future.

The autopsy scene was SO QT, and it was really funny.

I thought the scene at the end with Warrick and Catherine going off in the ambulance leaving Grissom and Sara and Greg behind to be really telling of the split of the shifts during the season.

I was floored to see Ecklie trying to come up with the money, I hope season six brings them all back together.

What did any other fans of the show think?

the_marq 05-20-2005 05:19 AM

I thought that it was the first good episode in a very loooong time. It's too bad they can't get Tarentino on a more regular basis.

streak_56 05-20-2005 05:19 AM

Well, I have to say that by far, that was the greatest episode ever. When the guy blew himself up, I thought for certain that Nick was going to die. The whole thing was a twist at every turn. It had to be the highest rated show on TV lastnight. I loved it. It was everything I love about TV drama.

Daval 05-20-2005 05:20 AM

Great report Shani, you basically echo my feelings exactly. Ecklie really was suprising yesterday, maybe he's gonna move to a more less-dickhead role next season?

There was definately lots of QT visible in that episode, I think he did a pretty good job.

Great episode, lots of suspense.

BalloonKnots 05-20-2005 06:35 AM

Definitely one of the best episodes ever, of any show, to be put on TV. QT did a great job mixing in humor with all that suspense.

One thing I didn't get though was at the end with Grissom's plan to pour dirt in the box so that it wouldn't explode. Was that a plan gone wrong? Or did I miss something?

Catdaddy33 05-20-2005 06:41 AM

That was a great episode, creepy as hell. The ants ccoming in was a nice touch.

I wondered the same thing about the exploding box, all I could figure was it was in a pressure trigger so if the weight was too much or too little it would explode. So they timed it so they would pull him out at the same time they dumped the dirt so it would give them time before the weight of the dirt set it off.

That's what I'm going with anyways

BalloonKnots 05-20-2005 06:59 AM

That's the thing the weight of the dirt was meant to stabilize the pressure points so that it would not set off the explosives. That was why Grissom asked for 200 pounds of it. That's why I was confused when it exploded.

Catdaddy33 05-20-2005 07:05 AM

Also, having it blow up adds more excitement than nothing happening when they pull him out...

Just goes to show that Grissom is not perfect.

ShaniFaye 05-20-2005 07:47 AM

Well Im sure he was making a guess as to nicks weight, the whole point was that nick couldnt just sit up and try to climb out.

I figured it was still going to explode, otherwise they wouldnt have had to yank him out like that, the dirt was to just give it time for the yank before it went kablooey

I found myself laughing a little when he told nick, who had been running out of air because he was buried alive, to shut his eyes and hold his breath so they could dump dirt on him lol

This was probably the shows best ever episode. The thing about CSI is that there are not too many memorable episodes. Don't get me wrong, it is a great show, but there is not a certain one that sticks out in my mind as the best - until last night. It was obvious they would eventually find him, but the story still kept me at the edge of my seat. Tarantino did a great job directing.

the_marq 05-20-2005 09:37 AM

The thing that I liked best about this episode was that there was no preposterous leaps of logic or hillariously small but significant chunk of evidence.

I hate that in most episodes every little hair and fibre somehow relates to the crime, as if the room was surgically cleaned just prior to the comission of the crime. THis was nice, I hope it's a sign of what's to come, I had pretty much given up on CSI before last night.

Catdaddy33 05-20-2005 09:55 AM

Some of the subject matter of the episodes haunt me more than the actual gore of the crimes or process of solving them.

This is true except for one episode. There was one a couple of years back that had to do with a guy stalking a girl from the attic of her house. He would watch her through holes in the floor and such. Anyways, to this day I sometimes get scared in my parents bathroom because their bathroom has this weird half finished ceiling. Anyways, about once every couple of months I get freaked out and have to leave the bathroom quickly. But yes, usually they aren't that memeorable.
The finale was awesome though. I was really scared Nicky was gonna die and am so glad that he didn't. I love that show!

The guy playing Nick, his acting skills while in the coffin was unbelieveable. And his emotion at the end when the coffin was opened, just did not look like acting...

Simply the best show.

I too was absolutely amazed at just how damned good the episide was.. head and shoulders above all other episodes of a consistently well-written and intelligent show.
Eckley trying to come up with the money and willing to take the heat, Nick's parents.. all the scenes with Warrick including his guilt at not being the one on that case...
what a phenomenal 2 hours....

Let's not forget the great and emotional plea/demand of Grissom to reunitehis team.

PS All the stuff at the start of the season about Nuick and Sara being fired.. ok the actors.. I had to wonder whether that was all just to have us not to expect Nick dying last night.. yes the show is that good that I considered that to be a possibility.

mrklixx 05-20-2005 07:29 PM

Who knew that Quentin could direct 2 hours of film and not drop one single F-bomb.

guthmund 05-20-2005 08:36 PM

^No doubt.

I said this in the 'Riddler' thread, but since Shani started one for the show specifically...

I had some reservations about Tarentino (did I spell that right?) directing the episode, but he pulled it off brilliantly. The season finale was, by far, the best episode of CSI that I can remember. It was just a very good episode all the way around. Normally, when these long season finales pop up, it gets a bit boring as the writers are trying to drag more out of the episode simply to fill the time, but this one....well, like I said, it was very well done.

The only thing, I didn't like and it started in the last couple of shows not just this one, was the complete character shift for Ecklie. They keep trying to force us to like this guy even after all the bad stuff. Ecklie offering to take the rap and dig up the money was so out of character for the guy it was a little unbelievable.

By the way, a stellar performance for George Eads, no?

MexicanOnABike 05-20-2005 10:17 PM

yep.. great episode!! you could tell it was tarantino... the way it went back and forth at the start, and the dialogue... we rarely get any dialogue in CSI... it's just lines after lines of work related shit... but last night was actualy stuff you would say to someone..

when the guy blew himself up, it was super confusing! not expected at all!!!
(Y)(Y)(Y) i wish he does more TV shows!!! (more movies ofcoursE!)

Gilda 05-20-2005 10:19 PM

Ah crap, I didn't get to see it. I get home from shopping at 8:45, put my stuff away, switch on the tv a couple of minutes early, and . . . it's half over because they started it an hour early. And I hadn't set my DVR to record it. Why, you ask, well, because I had made a point of getting home in time to see it.

Crap. Now I have to wait for a rerun.

Fremen 05-20-2005 10:35 PM

Fantastic acting, all around.

George Eads, as an actor, just upped his worth in my book.
And I bet you, Hollywood's too.

Gives me the heebie-jeebies to imagine myself buried alive. *ughhhh!!*
