liquidlight 05-04-2005 02:48 PM

What the hell? Has anybody found any more details on this?

Charlatan 05-04-2005 03:59 PM

Wow... wonder what's up with that?

Coppertop 05-04-2005 04:18 PM

Well that sucks.

BAMF 05-04-2005 05:01 PM

there was an article in rolling stones a few months ago. It said they are suffering from major writers block. There contract is worth so much more money, and they feel that they have to make the new material that much better than the first 2 seasons.

begforme2 05-04-2005 06:08 PM

That really sucks, but if they have to take some extra time to make the show good I don't have a problem with it. However if it's being delayed because of contract problems or any other bullshit I'm going to be pissed.

Vales419 05-04-2005 07:06 PM

I was bummed out to hear about that too. Its a great show and hope it continues. Shit, for 50 million, talk about the fucking weather as long as its funny!

Peace!

V.

dirtyrascal7 05-04-2005 07:19 PM

maybe it's like in the movie 'how high?'... they've run out of their special weed and they can't think of any good material. either way, it's going to be hard to top season 2 regardless what kind of weed they're smoking.

Nikilidstrom 05-05-2005 07:43 AM

Another article I read suggested that Chappelle has been missing from the set for as many as 3 weeks. And, they have pushed back the release of Season 2 DVD until Season 3 is ready to air.

astrahl 05-05-2005 08:02 AM

This would be a HUGE loss if this doesn't pan out.
I love his show and the musical acts he has on. And like somebody else was saying...as long as it is as funny as the first two seasons, me no care. Me likey show. Me want more show. Me getting bored with comedy central reruns.

tspikes51 05-05-2005 07:18 PM

This sucks. Hopefully Dave, Charlie, and the team will come up with some good material quick.

Locobot 05-05-2005 09:00 PM

I'm wondering if this is a money or censorship issue. If it really is just writers block that would be sad. I suppose if Chapelle wants to delay to keep the quality high then that is his perogative, just remember that the American pop-public has the attention span of a gnat. The man tends to ad-lib large parts of his standup show so I have a hard time believing this is a simple writers block issue.

Nikilidstrom 05-07-2005 09:31 AM

If the missing in action rumors are true, paired with his apparent illness in December, I just hope this doesn't turn out to be a drug thing. That would be a huge letdown if someone as intelligent and hilarious as him got caught up in all that. Stick to the weed, Dave.

dman2 05-07-2005 12:00 PM

I never really got into the show but have seen it a few times. It has been funny for the few times that I have seen it. Everyone is acting like it will be a national tragedy if the show doesn't make it. I don't see the big deal, really

RogueHunter65 05-07-2005 02:03 PM

Chappelle's show is one of my all time favorite TV shows ever. I think it would be horrible if the show didn’t make a return. But, I think that Dave is probably just taking some time off and will come back with some stuff. You can't rush genius.

asudevil83 05-09-2005 06:35 PM

my ONLY gripe with the show is that it has probably twice as many commercials as Adult Swim....and AD is one of the only things i watch, having 3 commercial breaks like Chappelle gets ANNOYING.

but as far as this goes, i hope he comes back. i also hope that he's suffering from writer's block and wanting to make sure his show is quality shit. i dont hope its drugs....but i think he's way to smart for that shit. he makes fun of drugs in a way where he shows they are no good, but keeps it funny.

doesn't look good, here's some updated info

Comedian Dave Chappelle has checked himself into a mental health facility in South Africa and has remained there since late April, according to a source close to the situation. The same source denies rumors of drug abuse. Other sources have also told EW that the future of Chappelle's Show — the hit Comedy Central series that was entering its third season — is more uncertain than the network has suggested.

Comedy Central last week made a hasty announcement that the show's third season, already delayed from its planned February start, had been postponed again. The network said it remained ''optimistic'' that production could resume. The highly rated sketch series has been a huge moneymaker for Viacom, which owns Comedy Central. Its second season is about to be released on DVD, on the heels of first-season sales that made it the top-selling television DVD in history.

Thanks in large part to the DVD sales, Chappelle last year netted a $50 million deal for co-writing and starring in the show. Sketches to fill about four episodes in the third season have been taped, but Chappelle's interstitial material with live audiences has not. The fate of the sketches has not been determined.

Report: Chappelle in mental health facility
Entertainment Weekly reports that the star checked in Wednesday

NEW YORK - Comedy Central star Dave Chappelle has checked himself into a mental health facility in South Africa, the magazine Entertainment Weekly reported on Wednesday.

The comedian’s whereabouts and condition have been unknown since Comedy Central abruptly announced last week that the planned May 31 launch of the third season of “Chappelle’s Show” had been postponed and production halted.

Chappelle flew from Newark, N.J., to South Africa on April 28 for treatment, said the magazine, quoting a source close to the show it would not identify. Entertainment Weekly said it had corroborating sources for its story.

“We don’t know where he is,” Comedy Central spokesman Tony Fox said. “We’ve heard about South Africa. We don’t know. We haven’t talked to Dave.”

Chappelle’s spokesman, Matt Labov, would not comment on the magazine’s story.

“It seems like the issues he’s contending with are really quite serious,” said Dade Hayes, a senior editor at Entertainment Weekly. “It isn’t a case of him spending a weekend someplace recuperating from exhaustion.”

The magazine’s sources say Chappelle is still in the facility, which was not named, Hayes said. Chappelle’s representatives have denied that the comedian was abusing drugs.

Chappelle reportedly signed a $50 million deal with Comedy Central for two more seasons of his show, a payday made possible because of the explosive sales of the show’s first season DVD.

The magazine said Chappelle had shot four to five episodes’ worth of sketches for the new season, but none of its onstage introductions.

Bacchanal 05-12-2005 07:40 AM

I was going to post this. Good thing I searched first.

I wonder what the deal is. A guy I work with said immediately that he thought it was drugs, but who knows?

I hope we get the real story sometime.

stonegrody 05-12-2005 11:00 AM

I really feel for the guy. It must have taken something pretty drastic for him to check himself into a mental facility. Hope he recovers okay and gets back to his comedy.

Charlatan 05-12-2005 11:12 AM

Tears of a clown is all that comes to mind...

radioguy 05-13-2005 10:35 PM

could he be "checking" into a facility in south africa as a publicity stunt? i mean, who could verify that. it's not like there are people over there that know him like people do in the states. who goes to south africa for a mental health facility? no offense to people from south africa in here. :)

Stompy 05-14-2005 02:31 AM

That's too bizarre for it to be real... a mental health facility in SOUTH AFRICA?

Hahaha..

If it's real, then it sucks but... it's bizarre.
