The Anne Frank story.
I already tried this topic on another board but noone knew some stuff about her. For the ones who may know, it's a dutch girl who takes chelter in the 2nd WW from the germans. Sadlly she didn't survive the war but her dairy was found. All in all it's a very interesting movie to watch. There's a lot of other stuff about it also. Mebbe it's a bit old what im telling you coz it's been discovered a few years ago already, but..
has anyone seen the movie or read her dairy or any books at all im interested to read about it. And im planinng to buy some interesting books about her. |
I have not read the book or watched the movie. I have of course heard about the story and read things regarding it. One thing I heard is that her father actually cut out some of the more interesting parts of the diary regarding sex or at least regarding lust. Anybody else hear this or know more specific details? Has there ever been a version released where they released the whole uncensored diary?

I read somewhere that about half of her diary was written with a ball-point pen. The interesting part is that the ball-point ben was invented a few years after she died, don't know if it's true though.

it was a great book. i read it in the 7th grade.

The thing about Anne Frank and the ballpoint pen is myth. Google "anne frank" and "ballpoint pen" and note the number of anti-Semitic websites that pop up, all of which get at least one fact wrong: not only was the ballpoint pen invented long before WWII, they were available in Europe by 1944. (Q.v. here) Moot point: the ballpoint was used during the editing of Frank's diary, which editing apparently did omit some sexual detail and other sections that publishers felt would alienate an already beaten German readership.
But oh yeah: decent book, melodramatic movie. |
Thanks for setting the facts straight Hal I, I am enlightened.

Read the book when I was 13 or 14. Thought it was great reading at the time, probably still is....
|
Red parts of the diary, but I've been to her house Amsterdam, and seen how they hid in the 'achterhuis'. Very interesting.

I read the book. Haunting when you consider the end result. It should be required reading for kids 13-14. Might give them perspective.
