Have you seen Man Bites Dog?

Chauncey and i were talking about how rare it is that we run into others that have seen Man Bites Dog. It's a french film directed by Remy Belvaux and Benoit Poelvoorde made to look like a documentary, wherein this film crew follows around a serial killer. It's a bit much for the weak of stomach, but IMO a brilliant look at society's bloodthirst and obession with reality based television.
So, have you seen it?

Yes, I saw it's North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival... I was working at the theatre where it played... Creepy film.

Oddly it was made long before the current Reality craze...

I picked up the DVD a while ago. I enjoyed it, but I thought in parts it was trying a little too hard to be shocking and satirical. It seemed too aware of how controversial it was.

seen it
pretty interesting, i wouldn't mind seeing it again since you mention it
but you're right, none of my friends has seen it (or heard of it)

Also: and maybe even more importantly, have you seen the American cinematic release, Or the French? I know that the criterion collection version(which is the one i own) has the scenes cut out of the American release (at least for showing in theaters)... I've never actually seen a copy of the first release.

Spoiler: Anyone notice the similarities between this and the Blair Witch Project?
They were both student films which unexpectedly made it big.
They are both shot on poor quality black and white film (some of Blair Witch is also shot on cheap video)
Both are "fake documentaries".
Both play up the poor framing, the shakey camera movements and the poor quality sound in order to add to the illusion that you are watching genuine footage.
Both films end with the film crew presumably dead and with the camera still rolling lying on the floor.

For the record:
Blair Witch SUCKED
Man Bites Dog, Ruled.

I'm afraid that I don't think you are going to get a representative sample in you poll! (At the moment we are led to believe that 75% of people have seen this rather obscure film!).
Most people on seeing the thread title "Have you seen Man Bites Dog", will simply pass over the thread entirely, if the name does not register. Perhaps "Have you seen..." would have been a more strategic title?
