The BADASS movie known as Clerks
IFC is showing, as I type, the Kevin Smith cult classic Clerks. Before it, they showed Snowball Effect: The Making of Clerks. I learned so much about this movie and it made me love the movie and Kevin even more. For anyone who is living under a rock, Clerks X is out on DVD and when I get money to buy it I will post and tell everyone all about it. Also a sequel is supposed to come out this year called Passion of the Clerks. Again, I can't wait. I remember I first saw this movie a little over a year ago and thought it was brillant: the writing, the acting, and most of all- the fact that it was shot in black and white. I have become a Kevin Smith junkie. He is film making god, genius in a trenchcoat, divine persona in Silent Bob. Anything he touches turns to gold, except for Jersey Girl which didn't do to well, but I actually liked. Anywho, I just thought I would see what everyone else on TFP things about this piece of cinematic genius.

Whao, I didn't even know that there was a sequel comming out. Thanks for the tip.
I prefer 'Dogma' over 'Clerks'. But Clerks is a close second. The sequel should be good. Won't this be his first attempt at a sequel? It's alot diffrent from the general referances that are in most of his movies ( IE, Moby the Cow.) which is a kinda nice way to tie them all together.

Should be some good stuff. Any person who puts this in their film is a genius:

When that movie came out, I was working in a retail shop and the similarities were so comforting!! I was losing my mind, but seeing it on the large screen helped me to laugh about the dumbasses instead of crying!

I can't believe Clerks would be called "classic"... cult favourite for sure but it isn't old enough to call a classic yet...

Is it a classic yet? Probably not, but it won't be long before it will be.

I'd say twenty-five to thirty years is a good amount of time to render something a classic. Otherwise it's just a great or good film.
Ten years is not a test of time.

While I agree its hasnt been out long enough yet to be a true "classic", Clerks is a classic in its own sense. The first time I saw it, I thought it was absolutely great.
Kevin Smith has his own following and a dedicated group of fans - although a small group. There are many who have no idea who he is, and think his films are dumb as hell. If I hadnt seen Clerks before I saw Mallrats, or any of the others, I would not have appreciated them nearly as much. As for a sequal to Clerks, I cant wait. |
