Greetings One and All,
Please forgive the new (redundant?) thread but I didn't see this question in the other two Matrix threads. Why was Neo cut by the sword? He can stop bullets but not cutlery? If the a sword is made of computer code and he can manipulate the code how he sees fit why was he cut? Was it a magic sword? Does anyone know why? Just wondering.

I believe the fact that he was cut was to demonstrate that he is still "only human", to quote the film Predator "If it bleeds, we can kill it."

Besides, were a sword swung at you in the manner that it does at Neo not only would one get a cut but a slice too. You'd lose half your hand!

I agree, he obviously does something to keep his hand from flying off. However, he does say that the code is different where the Marovingian's hideout is, so the items inside are coded a bit differently too (i.e. the swords on the walls.) I might be going out on a limb with the encrypted code thing, but it's certainly a possibility.

Maybe it was just a matter of timing. He stopped the sword just a bit late.

You see the blood drip from his hand, but you don't actually see the cut.

Other than that, I think everyone else got it pretty well.

he stopped the bullets and such before they reached him. if i remeber correctly he grabed the sword. he was surprised when he was cut.

The point (atleast as I took it) of all that was to show that he ISN'T perfect. While being able to stop a sword like that is quite a feat getting a small cut is a way to show a small amount of imperfection.

I agree, it indicates that the coding is being altered to fight this new threat (Neo) just as the silver haired guys are 'super agents'.

I always thought that he could get hurt in the matrix, for example if a bullet hits him he will get injured. Otherwise why bother to stop the bullets from reaching him? Why waste his time stopping the bullets? Why not just build a "firewall" around himself, and not worry about any dangers in the matrix? Answer is that he can be hurt by the matrix even though he can manipulate it. For example if a nuclear bomb were to go off next to him he would die.

My interpretation is that using skills in the matrix requires "concentration". If neo and joebob both get karate-uploads to teach them karate, neo can still kick joebob's ass even though they have the same knowledge. This is because neo can "concentrate" better than joebob. Concentration allows ppl in the matrix to supersede and in some cases resist the laws of physics to varying degrees. Neo can concentrate better than trinity. That's why neo can fly and trinity can jump like a mofo.

As for the blood, I think Neo simply lost his concentration for a second. I mean, he was fighting 5 ppl at the time. Neo *is* mortal in the matrix, he just also happens to have superhuman powers.

That sounds like a good explanation.

I was thinking then about them dropping a nuclear bomb next to Neo. I guess that might be feasible if they really were extremely desperate to kill him, but it probably wouldn't be worth it because they would kill off so many other batteries in the process.

But they don't want to kill Neo really since he's the one who will set about recreating the Matrix which is a calculated inevitability.

What was up with the Silver Bullets? I realize this might not pertain, but i remember the woman said, "How many peopld do you know that carry silver bullet loaded in their gun" So I would just say the sword was silver (which would also explain why he was surprised by the blood. as he thought he could stop normal metal for swords.)

Oh and the speak a out the Super Agents? I think its funny how they couldn't hit a normal Agent. Supers could go ethreal/dispersal to avoid anything, but Agents just dodge bullets. I'm curious who win if those two decked it out..

I believe the point was that you could only kill those guys with silver bullets. They were very vague about it, but that's the impression that I got.

I thought this was particularly cool about Reloaded. I like that the Oracle mentions that for years people have wondered about vampires, ghosts (the twins), and werewolves (those two guys), they are actually old programs still wandering around. Silver bullets kill werewolves but I thought that they killed vampires too. I assumed that they were vampires because the movie playing on the tv behind them in that scene is clearly from a vampire movie, not sure which movie.

1: the cut on neos hand i beleive was simply a device to show that he is still human, silver has nothing to do with it

2: The Twins; all the pre-relese stuff refered to them as either "the twins" Or as "Viri" the pluar form of virus, this leads us to belive that they are viruses explaning the abultiy to move threw shit, altho this is a strong argument for them being ghosts. personaly i have no clue what they are

3: All the programs in the malovingins plcae are old programs from previos verisions of the matrix, they are also rouge programs (as far as i can tell)

Now i propose this question, Is Zion part of the matrix? what i gatherd form Neo's disscusion w/ the archatect is this, The Matix uses a contoller program to keep most citsens in line and to keep them unaware of the matrix, a small presentage of ppl cannot be contoled by the program. And one in particualr "the anomaly" AKA Neo, has supprior control over the matrix. this problem has been known of from Matrix 1.0 . what causes this ANomaly is human choice, witch cannot be predicted complaetly by a computer. So they created Zion, as a means of flussing out the anomaly and eventuial bringing about its (neo) end. Their for Zion is not this Great accomplishment of human ingenuity merly a device used by the architecht to dispose of the anomaly, this leads me to think that Zion is accualy IN the matrix, This is why neo could kill the sentnals near the end. Theprofound relisesation that He is STILL in the matrix is what couses neo's coma. Think about it this is the 2nd time that he has found out that "the real world" is infact a computer program.

so in closing I CANNOT WAIT TILL NOVEMBER
