City Of God
I just saw this movie a few nights back, and I must say WOW. It is supposedly based on the life of Wilson Rodriguez, a famous Brazilian photographer, and it takes place in the druglord-run slums of Rio De Janeiro from the sixties to the seventies. I won't give anything away, but I must say this: SEE THIS MOVIE!
Warning: This movie is extremely violent, involving children murderers and children being murdered. |
I saw this one a few months back. Amazing movie. One of my favorites.
A lot of those actors were really from the around that area, too. They did an amazing job. |
i liked the film much more after watching the documentary that accompanies it on the dvd...mostly because of things talked about in the documentary that are erased in the film.

Great film. I have the dvd, but haven't watched the documentary yet. I usually don't get around to watching the special features, but I think I'll have to check this one out...

I just saw this movie last week. Very good, if not extremely distubing.
|
Definatly check out the documentary. It's almost as shocking as the movie.
|
Great film. From the beginning it was really intriguing, but it only got better throughout.
|
Very dark and freaky. It was almost too violent to be real, at least from my western point of view.
I'd recommend this film to any one who is: a) not overly sensitive to violence and b) willing to read subtitles. |

This movie was made very well. It's amazing considering the relatively low budget, and governemtn assistance. A very well made film. Nicely shot, edited everything.
I am now scared to go to Brazil. |
I'll never look at a banana the same way again.
Good documentary though. |
LOVE this film, bought it a while back on dvd after reading a couple of good reviews of it. first time I watched it was so into it that I completely forgot that I was reading subtitles and could not actually understand portugese...

Great movie. It was violent, but not gratuitously so, and avoided being preachy. Very realistic in its portrayal. I'm also amused by the name of the thread starter and the relation to the movie. :D
