Arrested Development

I have been watching this show from the beginning, being shocked and depressed as I slowly found out how few people watched it or had even heard of it. I continued to look around and found that some people who watched it said that it wasn't funny, and that they didn't get it. The only way that I can see that is if you didn't completely watch the show and focus on it, because there are SO many little jokes and quick things that you can miss if you blink or look the other way. However, even with all that there are still many rather straightforward jokes, that pretty much anyone would be able to get. I thought about it more and became depressed that on the the best and funniest shows that I had ever seen was in jeopardy (this was at the end of last season, when there was the possibility of it not coming back) all because the majority of American's are either too busy or too stupid to get, and appreciate this wonderful show. That thought alone made me worried for America, when a TV show, thats on Fox, nonetheless, befuddles our average populus. So who else here has seen this show... or atleast heard of it? And what do you think of it?

It's one of the funniest shows on television, in my opinion.

That's really all I have to say about it.

I absolutely love the show. It's really funny in a subtle, akward kind of way. I think Fox will hold onto it for a little while more, but unless more people start watching it, it will be cancelled. It's sad when a great show like this gets overlooked by your average viewer, while shows like "Hope and Faith" (shudder) remain on the air. I think it shows just how stupid the average American is.

the show is simply amazing. very original and quite funny. i dont see it getting cancelled for a while due to its winning of an emmy for best new comedy series (im pretty sure it did, i could be mistaken though).

but then again, fox has a history of cancelling witty, original shows in their prime. its really unfortunate

Yeah, thats what I'm worried about too, Fox doesn't have that great of a track record with good shows . And you're not mistaken, it did win that Emmy among others, thats what I'm hoping too, that it'll be backed up by its amazing-award-winning-ness

I just can't relate to the people in the show. They're all rich snobs, and I can't come to care about any of the characters. Shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Malcolm in the Middle on the other hand catch my attention because I can at least somewhat relate to their standards of living.

City, I guess that is one of the things I like about the show. I love the fact that these rich snobs just can't get out of the way of one another. It all builds to a rediculous climax every episode. The actors have really perfected the comedy of their characters and revel in the lunacy of their situation.

It is one of the only shows that I find laugh out loud funny.

Rented the DVDs recently (I'd been holding off watching the show because I figured I'd be lost in not understanding the running storylines). Funniest show on TV now. I'm a regular viewer now.

I've been a David Cross fan for a while and always had a crush on Porsche DeRossi and Jeffrey Tambor is always funny, but the rest of the cast is great too.

I just watch shows and take em' for what they are. If it's stupid, I don't watch it, if it has good value, I do. This show is funny, it has lots of jokes and is refreshing in that a good number aren't shoved in your face, they're subtle or just presented as part of the dynamics of the situation, without anything to draw your attention to em'. It's a good show.

I missed the first season while it was on, but caught a show recently and loved it so much that I went out and bought the first season DVD set. I haven't watched all of the episodes yet, but I absolutely love the show. Great ensemble cast, and very clever. Like many mentioned already in this thread, it's a shame that some of the best TV out there right now gets really bad ratings because people just aren't smart enough to recognize how witty and good the shows, yet tune in every week to watch awful "reality" programming.

i think it is very good. i did my part a few weeks back as part of the neilsen sample. it is one of the few shows on any station that i attempt to watch. i don't know who can watch those dumb sitcoms pairing a fat guy and hot actress wife.

also i've noticed mr show is on tbs late on the weekends. also very funny, but i wish they showed it more often. i have not seen many episodes.

Arrested Development is hilarious. I cracked up last night when little buddy threw the vacuum at the bus thinking it was the maid's favorite toy and her car. I nearly pissed my pants. I'm glad to see the show on after the simpsons and before my big fat obnoxious boss. seems like a great spot for it. I think this show will be around for a while.

This has got to be one of my all-time fav shows. Its something that you won't see on TV for a LONG time if it gets dropped. It is an amazing comedy. Married With Children still is my number 1 fav(cause I grew up with it)...but this is number 2!

^^^ Exact way I feel. I've caught a few episodes, but the show just doesn't do it for me. The beginning theme song is actually my cue to head to the store for that half hour

No laugh tracks. Just pure intellegent (obscure) comedy. Best show ever I think. I like it TONS more than Seinfeld (and I am/was a pretty big fan of it).

The narration is is done very well. So good that most episodes they do a quick recap of a few previous episodes.

BEST SHOW EVAR!

The first season of the this show was a hilarious breath of fresh air, the best comedy on television.

This current season, however, gets a big 'meh' from me. I still watch the show but I'm not enjoying it as much as the first one. Perhaps the quirkiness is starting to wear off for me but some of the jokes this season I don't find funny. Tobias as a wannabe-Doubtfire? Meh. Another Buster/Hook joke? Meh.

By far, one of the best comedies on TV- the only other live-action one that comes close is Malcolm in the Middle. I love the attention to little things and the way past stuff keeps coming back to the surface- George Michael's Star Wars tape, for example- although that's the sort of thing that likely alienates new viewers.

I thought the Mrs. Doubtfire spoof was hilarious! The horrible renditions of the Mary Poppins songs killed me. I do agree that the hook did get tedious for me untill Buster used the Franklin puppet as a prostehtic and ended up telling off his mom in Franklin's voice and then looked very surprised, as if the puppet had spoken by itself. I nearly cried!

The last few episodes in this season were awsome. I liked the one about Scandal Makers (episode 2x17). I loved how the narrator was hacking and cutting on the Scandal Makers narrator for doing such a shitty job... ended that episode with "... and thats how you narrate a story."

Also the season finale was super funny... IMO. When maybe pecked George Micheal for his help with the movie premiere and she says "Hey look and we didn't get swallowed up into hell." (earlier in the show they were having structural problems in the living room, where they were) then the floor caved! Hahaha. I loved the fact that George Micheal and Maybe (as the narrator states "Who might now be his biological cousin") kissed. I am sure they aren't cousins. Your thoughts? I don't want to come across as a "cousin loving creep". Cuz I'm not... although I do have a few hot cousins... anyways.... haha.

Ya. Love it. Hope its back next year.

Lucille said Maeby was a test-tube baby, and she paid for the procedure. Of course, it'd be just like Lindsay to blow all the money on something else and not say anything about it.

I liked the Mrs. Doubtfire stuff too. I thought I'd bust a gut when Tobias jumped off the balcony with that umbrella.

That one had me laughing out loud.

This show is great and if it gets canceled just like Family Guy somebody will syndicate it and it will sell a ton of DVDs but unfortunately I don't think it will rise like a phoenix again if this happens...please Fox just stick with it one more season.

Yeah. I read about that yesterday. Great news! I was gonna start a thread clueing everyone in about it getting picked up last night, but then my computer crashed. Here's the site:

Sounds like it's pretty reliable info, even if it isn't official.

alright ladies and gents....the new season of this highly underrated show is starting tonight. Do yourself, your friends, and the people who work on that show a favor and get them to watch it before they decide to cancel it.
The great thing is, you don't really need to watch previous episodes to get into it. It always has a recap and scenes from the older episodes cut in the middle of the show when references are made.
