These go to 11...

If you have IFC, This Is Spinal Tap is airing right now (and is supposed to air every Saturday night this month).

This is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time. I'm sure there are a bunch of Tap fans here.

IFC showed a couple of facts before the flick (they often do that) and a couple were ones I'd known already - that the members of the band are actually decent musicians and play/wrote the music on the soundtrack (and as we all know, the music from The Folksmen in A Mighty Wind as well) and that much of the dialog is improvised (again, kinda a Guest staple). I knew that lots of folks thought Spinal Tap were a real band at the time (and I guess they ended up being one afterwards), but I'd never heard it put quite the way that IFC stated in their third fact: after the movie opened, people actually told Rob Reiner he should have chosen a more famous band to focus on.

oh, yeah... my funny Spinal Tap related story (watching the movie just now reminded me of it as this scene is playing...), which almost puts this topic into Tilted Music, but anyway...

i saw the California Guitar Trio and because i helped with their merchandise sales, i got the chance to go backstage and meet the guys and get CDs signed and such. well, "backstage" in this instance was actually downstairs under the venue. when you go down the narrow steps, you have to wind around through a little bit of a maze of walls and such... so one of the CGT guys (Bert Lams) is leading me through the maze and while he is, i shout out "Hello, Cleveland!" in my best british accent and Bert gave me the strangest look. i awkwardly explained the scene from Spinal Tap and he just smiles and nods in that "i don't know what the hell you're talking about" kinda way...

:D

No DVD collection is complete without This Is Spinal Tap, one of the funniest movies around. I love all of Christopher Guests films, Best In Show and Waitng For Guffman are two good ones if you're a fan of Spinal Tap.

I'm not familiar with IFC. I just have cable and I don't think that one is included.
