Favorite DVD boxed set?

With it being summer, I thought I might watch some series.

I've been watching the Buffy TV series on DVD *dodges rotten tomatoes* but I'm looking for something to purchase.

What are your favorite series boxed sets?

BulletBob 05-19-2003 05:25 PM

Die Hard dvd set is good but you can't beat The Simpsons season dvd collections.

diergray 05-19-2003 06:17 PM

I would agree with the Simpsons as well.

440sixpack 05-19-2003 06:19 PM

Family Guy!

Also got The Sopranos season 1, another great show.

splanker 05-19-2003 07:24 PM

For my money, the Criterion Collection edition of "Brazil" wins hands down.
In this 3 disc set, we get the director's cut, along with insightful, giggling commentary from Terry Gilliam, a second disc containing documentaries, production info and much more, and a third disc with the santized=-for-your-protection "Love Conquers All" version.
Oh, yeah that and the Beatles "Anthology"

ASNstunta 05-19-2003 09:12 PM

The Godfather! Die Hard 5 Five star collection is nice also.

Im waiting on that Indiana Jones set to come out!!

krazykemist 05-19-2003 11:41 PM

M*A*S*H
Seasons 1,2,3

Great classics.

livewirerc 05-20-2003 09:22 AM

I just got the Kubrick Collection, which includes everything he's done since Lolita. While I miss some of his earlier work (Spartacus, Paths to Glory, The Killing, etc.) it has everything he's famous for. Plus, watching 2001 while high on some REALLY good KB is like nothing else. :)

i'm gonna vote for band of brothers... not that i can actually afford to buy it, but i rented the whole damn serioes and burnt away a weekend watching it... great great series. top notch war movie.

Gortexfogg 05-20-2003 07:58 PM

I like the Back to the Future box set. Lots of stuff. Three good movies. Tons of production pics.
It's the only DVD box set I own, but still really good.

Kadath 05-20-2003 08:32 PM

If you mean TV series boxed set, we have Futurama season 1, Family Guy 1/2, Sopranos 1-3, Band of Brothers, and the Trigun and NGE sets. Futurama is not as good as I had hoped, but Family Guy is great. The commentary is a little spotty but often hilarious. Sopranos..Well. It gets weaker as it goes along, but the first season is very good and worth getting, in my opinion. Band of Brothers I have not watched. Anime, well, you make your own call on that, obviously.

snowace56 05-21-2003 09:25 PM

I agree with 440sixpack Family Guy is the best. Its the funniest thing ever, and they say what you never thought anyone would. And its like 600 minutes, so its great for killing time.

teflonian 05-21-2003 11:14 PM

I am pretty certain you meant TV series, but the only TV series I have is the Simpsons and that has already been mentioned... So, I would have to chime in for Lord of The Rings disc set. Good extra features and bonus scenes.
On a related note, I have been eyeing the Six Feet Under first season DVD set. Anybody have it? Anything worth getting? It seems like there aren't too many extras.

KillerYoda 05-21-2003 11:18 PM

The CKY Boxset was nice, although I wish they had waited until 4 was out to release it.

Roark 05-22-2003 03:59 AM

My latest editions have been the complete Season 1 & 2 of the Transformers. I did really enjoy Band of Brothers as well.

Upcoming..

LOTR's / Matrix when the trilogy ends. Thinking back to old shows i'd like a Higherlander the series on DVD.

Anyone know what's up with Lucas and him not releasing a DVD version of the 4/5/6 Special Editions? They came out on tape 4 or 5 years ago. What a shame. I bet if he did that the sales from that DVD's would be more than the gross from Episode II.

Supposedly he's not releasing 4-6 on DVD until 3 is out on DVD and he can do a bundle of the whole thing. It's not a shame, it's a marketing scheme. First they put out the original trilogy as a set on vhs, then the "thx" version, then the special. I got the special and gave my THX set to my young cousin, that he might appreciate what star wars used to be before he appreciated what it is now. But the whole point is it's another dollar lucas can make off of star wars, because once the last dvd set is out, the well starts to dry up, at least a little bit, and that's his main cash cow.

Macheath 05-22-2003 05:29 AM

I was very happy when the first season of 24 came out. When it first aired, I missed the first episode and then lost track of the plot about a third of the way in. Watching the whole lot on DVD over the course of about two weeks was a real indulgence.

Antagony 05-22-2003 10:49 AM

Wow, all good suggestions. Decisions, decisions . . .

Lebell 05-22-2003 11:00 AM

I don't have many boxed sets, but the one I haven't regretted is my James Bond boxed set. One or more of every actor that has played Bond (excepting ONE that no one remembers. Can you name him??)

I keep intending to get the Star Trek boxed set someday, but I never have the scratch.

Mr.Deflok 05-22-2003 09:42 PM

Band of Brothers, best thing that has ever been on TV.

I think that would be George Lazenby. He played Bond in `On her Majesties Secret Service'.

My favorite set so far is Ken Burns `Baseball'. Unbelievable stuff from when it was really Americas' Pastime.

Conclamo Ludus 05-25-2003 10:51 AM

The Sopranos seasons 1-3
Band of Brothers
Six Feet Under season 1
Kubrick Collection
Ken Burns: Jazz
Brazil Criterion! Awesome.
The first Bond collection is pretty good.
Twin Peaks Season 1
There's a really good Akira Kurosawa box that I want to get too from Criterion I think.

nightmare 05-26-2003 06:03 PM

pod723 05-26-2003 09:17 PM

platypus 05-28-2003 05:43 AM

I agree that the Godfather set and Criterion collection of Brazil are right up there, but for me it's gotta be...

<b>The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus</b>

neoinoakleys 05-28-2003 05:53 AM

24 definitely a keeper, can't wait for season 2 to be released...

brandon11983 05-28-2003 01:17 PM

Six Feet Under season 1. Can't wait for season 2 to be released!!

iktoweya 05-28-2003 01:56 PM

i enjoyed the robotech boxed sets there was about 7 and i own them all

Mario 05-29-2003 06:56 AM

Transformers Season 1 and the complete season 2, pretty good stuff if you are into 80's flashbacks.

Movie wise, I'm waitin for the Indiana Jones trilogy to be released later this year.

ARRH 06-03-2003 06:28 AM

Definitely 24, season 1! I bought it, was sick, and watched the whole thing in one weekend!!! I hadn't seen any of it yet, so it was all new to me. I loved it.

Other good box-sets that I have are:

- Band of Brothers
- Godfather Triology
- Fawlty Towers - The complete
- And ofcourse all the Friends series :)

ARRH 06-03-2003 06:29 AM

Oh, and the 24 Season Two box-set comes out on the 2nd September! I already have it written down in my Calander! :)

nine 06-03-2003 10:07 AM

24 season 2 comes out on 11th August in the UK

monkeydriven 06-10-2003 06:07 AM

<b>The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus</b>

Man, I was waiting for someone to say it. Sure, you have to lay down a bundle of cash, but it's every episode of Monty Python on 14 dvd's. How can you go wrong?

retg34 06-10-2003 08:02 AM

Currently, it has to be Band of Brothers, but the Indiana Jones boxed set to be released in Novemeber might give it a run for it's money bepending on the bonus material.

hawkeye 06-10-2003 07:39 PM

The boxed set of The Muppet Show is a great, as is the Man With No Name set.

tract0r 06-12-2003 02:30 PM

The Sopranos Seasons 1-3
Band of Brothers
Godfather Trilogy
