Real World - I hate hate hate it
What is real about the real world?
1. Given nice house 2. All roommates are attractive - none are avg to overweight 3. All are given a job - they should have to go find their own jobs in the city 4. All in a big city - come to Youngstown and see how long you make it 5. At least one cast member calls their mom or dad for cash 6. Every house has a pool table and whirlpool - wtf? I'm not living real I could go on and on but I will spare you all. I don't even watch the show but a few friends do and tell me about it all the time. I tell them to shut their trap though. But I see previews of the show all the time when Mtv does decide to play videos. What is the freakin point of this season? Whooo.. working for the arena football team. Yippy Yi Yo Yay! At least the Surreal Life is more interesting. |
The Real World is STILL on? I remember watching that in the early 90's.

I agree, but I must admit, I did get sucked in to it during the Chicago episodes. It was a like a train wreck, I just couldn't pull myself away and stop watching it. I still get the shakes thinking about it.

The first several seasons they didn't give the people jobs and they just sat around on their asses all day for 4 months.

The reason that they keep getting good ratings are:
1. Attractive people forced into a sexually charged situation. Who deosn't love that (besides people who are actually in a situation where they're happy)? 2. People whining about their feelings in front of a camera in front of the whole nation, just like every other reality show. It's part of the foundation for a popluar reality show. Viewers like to identify with those morons. 3. The extravagent living conditions (i.e. 'THE HOUSE'). If a viewer is identifying with a character on T.V., they want to be confortable and spoiled with that character. If your favorite real world-er is awwstruck with the house, you want to be awestruck with him/her. 4. Drama. Unfortunatally, a LOT of people out there love watching drama. What happenes when you put (usually insane) blonde preppies in with (usually insane) black people with a (usually insane) alcoholic with a (usually insane) homosexual with a grounded person to make sure they don't kill each other? The Real World! IMO. |
When I hit 20 I couldn't stomach watching it any more. It just annoyed me and the fact people would sell themselves out like that just bothered me for some reason. I wanted so badly to believe people couldn't be that triffling...but as I grew older I realized they really were that bad.

The problem isn't so much the fact that the Real World exists, as much as that we the American public love to watch this crap so much.
MTV simply is cashing in on it, like every other TV station in the Nation. Sure, it sucks, it's some of the most shallow programming to ever grace the airwaves, but why would it be there if there wasn't a mass calling for it? I tend to think that it's our own fault as a nation for watching it so much, cause if we didn't watch, it wouldn't be there. I have personally never seen a whole episode. I catch glimpses cause my wife watches it from time to time. It is really disgusting, I agree. |
Ah yes, the show that is to blame for the current trend of reality television. Thanks but no thanks.

I've never found a reality tv show interesting. None. Ever.
So I'm doing my little part to eradicate reality TV. But it bothers me little, anyway. As long as they don't crowd out Family Guy or the Daily Show or Tough Crowd...or reruns of Law & Order from one of their last 3436346362 seasons, I'm good. |
