Life of Pi
Who else here has read this book? I've seen it mentioned here once or twice, but the words of the title are too short to do a search for it, so fogive me if there is already a thread on this.
I just finished this (audiobook at work, yeah) and thought it was pretty good, until I got to the end and decided it surpassed "pretty" good and ended up being "VERY" good. I would love to discuss this book with someone. |
I've been meaning to pick it up for awhile. I'd love to hear more about what people think about it.

Funny, I just saw this title while browsing through the bookstore today and remembered hearing about it somewhere (probably here). Ended up buying Lies My Teacher Told Me instead though.
From what I read on the back cover, Life of Pi is about a young man who is stranded on a life raft with a tiger in the middle of the ocean. Quite a unique idea, but where does it go? I'd like to know a bit more of what to expect (not too much though, of course) before I lay down my $9.99 for it. |
Good book, I found it quite enthralling, though there were some absurd bits (such as him being a Christian, Sufi Hindu) all in all though one of the best books of the past few years...

saut, it's not a religious book. He's three religions at once, but that's a side effect of Pi's unique approach to the world, not the main focus of the narrative. Yeah, it's mostly about a kid on a life boat in the middle of the ocean, and the way he survives with a 9 foot Bengal tiger. That in itself is pretty interesting reading, but it gets better. A lot of it is about his mental struggle to survive the ordeal, and then there are some other bits that would spoil the book if I told you. And the writing style is just a real pleasure to read.
The real problem with talking about Life of Pi is that, like anleja said, it's a good book for most of it, but the ending is a real killer, and makes the whole book worth reading. So when you go and encourage someone else to read it, you can't convey how great it is without spoiling it. All I can say is, read the book. You'll probably do so in one sitting, and you won't regret it. |
I've had this book in my collection since it came out and someone recomended me to look into yet. I'm waiting for a good time to read it.

I want to discuss this book, but I don't want to ruin the details for anyone who may be interested in reading it. I have some questions about a few things... maybe I'll post the questions in the spoiler script when I have more time.

I just want to say that I absoloutly loved this book.
Well written throughout it is the ending that makes it one of my favourite books. Kostya, did you ever get around to reading it? |
