Best Civil War Movies????
Greetings Everyone,
I hope everyone had a great 4th. One of my Independence Day ritutals is to watch Gettysburg which I think is a pheonomonal movie. That got me to thinking, "What are the best Civil War movies?" You can probably came up with 20 WWII classics and almost that many for WWI and Vietnam. But there is a severe dearth of great Civil War movies. I thought I would compile a list of my favorites and you guys could add on your favorites or the ones I forgot: (In descending order): 1. Glory 2. Gettysburg 3. Red Badge Of Courage 4. Shenandoah 5. Gone With The Wind What else? |
Gods and General
that's it for now... |
The best, imo, was Ken Burns' documentary.
|
Cold Mountain, but that's just because it is the only one I know of. And come on, it has Jack White of The White Stripes' fame!
|
North and South part 1 and 2
Glory |
I assume you mean The American Civil War?
Andersonville Gettysberg Glory I know there are a few others that I really liked but I can't think. |
Hangman's Knot with Randolph Scott.
|
Gettysburg
Gods and Generals is ok, but I didn't like how the book transferred to the movie so poorly. |
I like the Civil War Ken Burns documentary, but it's a bit dry to watch in one sitting.
Gettysburg is pretty heady. I like that movie alot. Gods and Generals is very good but not as good as the first. |
Glory

Just watched Cold Mountain the other nite and quite enjoyed it, but Glory remains the best. Actually in my opinion, Glory probably ranks in at least my top ten movies of all time.
