Dogville - Lars Von Trier
Has anyone seen this movie? I just watched it last nite and I was blown away by it. Artistically this movie was great. I loved every sec (almost 3 hours). Then just when I thought that I had started to figure the whole thing out, the ending changed the entire movie.
I would highly reccommend this movie. Take some friends so that you will have somebody to discuss the movie with afterward. I would love to hear what you guys thought, and what you walked away from the movie thinking. |
hm. i'll check this out the next time i'm at the video store.
while we're on the dog vein, check out Amores Perros (love's a bitch). incredible movie, subbed from spanish to english. basically three tales that are intertwined and all have connections to their dogs. |
I enjoy von trier's films but I sure do wish he would one day finish up Riget so I can find out what happens.

I haven't seen this one but I've seen others by him. He did "The Idiots" right? What's this one about?

I saw this today and thought it was quite amazing. Unfortuantley, it seems there were theatrical releases and so i've only seen the shortened version which went for about 130 mins (it seems they culled about 45 minutes of footage :( )
That said, i thought the story and events where still quite complete and thorough enough to get everything across. spoiler Spoiler: As for the ending, although it turned things on it's head, i was actually saying/thinking "shoot them" as kidman was talking to caan in the car, about what she was going to do. But, i thought it was justified because the towns people bought it on themselves, and altohugh a rather tragic end, such is human behaviour. Also, a nice point that the dog, whose bone got stolen at the start of the movie, was the soel survivor of the town. The movie definitely got me thinking about a lot of things, but unfortunatley i watched it by myself this afternoon, so i haven't had a whole lot of people to discuss it with yet :p i am also interested in seeing more Von Trier stuff now, but it may be hard to come by :| |
medea is a fine thing too.
i liked the idea of dogma films, and was sad to see the absurd office they set up to monitor compliance with the rules go away. by favorite of them so far is not von trier, but julien donkey-boy. harmony korine, i think. |
