I really like the one where a cowboy is supporting a charred cowboy in a saloon and the caption reads: "Damn, Hawkin tried to ride into the sunset." Though, I might only be partial to that one because it was the farside that introduced me to farside.

My favourite is the caveman showing a rock thing to other cavemen with caption
"Danook shows off his swiss army rock" |
The thagomiser for working its way into the lexicon, but otherwise two i have stuck to my desk:
A guy walking up to a black hole with an information booth clutching a tv saying 'excuse me, but i was told to stick this here' with the caption "although an unexplained pheonomenon, there is a place on the outskirts of mayfields, nebraska, where the sun does not shine." Or A six picture cartoon of a dinosaur slowly walking towards a tree from the far distance and on the sixth frame coliding with a resounding 'bonk!' |

Anyway, back in the late 1980s I attended a lecture by Donald Johanson, the paleoanthropoligist who discovered Lucy. He included several Far Side slides in his lecture, and it turns out that he and Gary were buddies. There were even some Far Side cartoons published that were inside jokes for Donald (I don't recall which ones, however). |

Funny but I've mentally attributed that to Larson as an early one of his and you are right its not his. As someone with a collection of every farside cartoon I find it kinda funny I didn't put 2+2 together. I got that one on a t-shirt when I was a kid a the museum of science and industry and its always been my favorite. |
this one is my fav, because its the very first one I ever saw

Ustwo, I am reminded of the one with the kid trying to enter the "... School for the Gifted" by pushing on the door labeld "pull". If I had time, I'd find a panel, but I don't.
And it's one of my favorites, too. |

Slacker.
edit: Damn you Shani!!! With your quick post skills! Drat and Double Drat. |
Shani, thanks for proving why I suck and you rock yet again.

i always loved the one with the mother duck that has a baby duck and a snake with four lumps in it walking behind her
|
I like the one with the butterfly fresh out of the cocoon that flew right into a spiderweb.
Always found that one kind of inspiring... My favorite though is is the "Real Reason Dinosaurs Went Extinct". |

While I have a list of 'favorites' one of the more clever ones I thought was two people after a plane crash on a small island and one says 'well we won't have to worry about food, the are muscles all the way to the TOP here!'.
Larson later said apparently few people got it and he got a lot of letters asking him to explain it. *sigh* |

Midvale.
Cat FuD Then there's the one of the cow looking aghast with grass falling out of his mouth yelling, "This is Grass. We've been eating Grass!" |
When Gary retired, a few friends and I were such a mournful lot that we started a Gary wannabe cartoon collection. We could clip out any characters, background, etc of Larson's and add a new quip of our own. It was absolutely dreadful...only Larson can do Larson. :)

"Late at night, and without permission, Larry would conduct experiments in static electricity."
It's a janitor in a hospital nursery rubbing a baby against himself (like a balloon) and a couple of babies stuck to the ceiling. I always laugh at that because of the "and without permission" part. |
My 2 favourites would be (wording might not be exact due to memory)
1 - Caption: Putting his face into a hornets nest was not a good idea, but Rustys' timing was particularly bad. 1- Picture: The inside of the hornets nest was a bar with a sign saying "Angry Hour". 2 - Caption: It took a moment for the postman and Spot to realise fully what had just transpired. 2 -Picture: A postman and a dog staring at the pepperspray bottle the postman had dropped on the ground. |
Two penguins standing on a random icefloe, amongst many in the Antarctic night, staring out at the water.
Caption: Well, once again, here we are. And there is this: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...r20Side203.jpg |
