I agree.

There's nothing more depressing than watching some half wit pop star turn in a hackneyed performance. Not that anyone could do anything with the kind of insipid characters and storylines thought up by the jokers who write this crap.

The fact that a sequel to Dirty Dancing has been made makes me retch.

doesn't mandy moore have a nip slip in that movie? it's at least go that going for it. But yeah i think most of the chick flicks out there aren't very high on quality yet play enogh on women's emotions that they like them. I've seen very few in this genre that actually have substance to them but then again i'm not the intended audience.

I just saw How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and as chick flicks go, it was great. I agree a lot are rather depressing/unwatchable for me though.

I love chick flicks.

Of course, the chick flicks I like tend to have lots of close-ups, and lack minor things like character development, story telling, plot and most of all, clothes.

They don't depress me because I realize none of that stuff ever happens in real life...the whole "happily ever after" thing is a fairy tale

See, that doesn't depress me. It kind of makes me laugh because some people do believe that exists.

I can't get into any of the chick flicks. Even the ones that have been reviewed well like The Hours.
My wife will not watch them with me. I get bored and start talking and talking and talking. Also, is anyone sick of the "Girl finds our she's a princess" or gets to "marry a prince" storylines? These are about as orginal as a van dam flick.

lol! I have to agree with you there. I've seen one and that was one too many! I have to say that "The Hours" is a great film though. The acting in it is superb even though it isn't the happiest tale.

I totally agree. However, there are some people that don't.

Obviously, I disagree. How is it not a chick flick? The only people I know that liked it are female. For me chick flicks include movies that focus mainly on relationships. Anyhow, the term chick flick is open to interpretation.

Next you will tell me the First Wives Club wasn't a chick flick.

Well, First Wives Club is a chick flick.

I have a few (hetero) male friends that enjoyed the movie too. To me, the movie is about life and how we choose to live it...and how we have to decide to be happy with the choices that we make and where our lives have gone. It isn't a fluffy movie that has a knight in shining armor coming to save a Cinderella type. I disagree but you are entitled to your own opinion.

My guess about our difference of opinion is how we interpret the term chick flick. Mine is probably a bit more encompassing. No big deal. Just a difference of opinion.

Also, if a man enjoys a chick flick I don't think it changes it from being a chick flick IMHO.
Hell, I even enjoyed 10 things I hate about you (for some reason).

To me a chick flick is a bland hollow film featuring boring shallow stereotypical characters with a predictable recycled plot focusing around painfully trivial things, and finding a "dream guy".

"Men" have crappy films about cars exploding, "women" have crappy films about "true love" .

Not every film centered around the relationships between characters constitues a chick flick! Even if the main characters happen to be female.

I'll watch any chick flick that is 1) a comedy and 2) involves destroying a character played by a really good, sleazy male character actor. I liked First Wives Club because of Dan Hedaya, who played Bet Midler's husband; the man plays scum better than anyone on the planet. Dabney Coleman is also one of the great sleazes-to-be-destroyed of chick flicks, as in Tootsie and "9 to 5." Danny DeVito -- another giant of sleaze, and the only reason I ever watched any of those "Romancing the Stone" movies.

I can't freakin stand chick flicks. It's amazing to me how pretty much ALL women love them. I've yet to have a girlfriend who didn't make me endure them. The only chick flick I can think of that I dug was What Women Want. That was funny.

How do you guys with SO's approach chick flicks? It's painful sitting through these movies with their trite plots...

Chick flick or not (since my definition is apparently incorrect) my SO warns me if she is watching a movie she knows I won't like. Then I try to watch it and leave if I can't. Off to the computer I go. The same goes for crappy guy movies I occasionally watch. If it's porn, we both stay and watch.
