What is the best visual quality DVD? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

If i had to guess, i would say Star Wars Episode 2, Finding Nemo, Toy Story I/II, and the LOTR movies.

Basically, I have a new projection TV, and i'd like to watch some really good quality movies. So, suggestions?

I'm not really sure about it, but have you seen those Superbit movies? They are supposed to be higher picture qualityand sound, but w/o the special features and shit. I've never seen one myself, but lots of people were buying then when they came out..

It appears that there are only 44 titles available, and I would guess that they are all from a Sony owned corporation, but check em out.

I have several superbit DVD's - they are nothing special.

Any CG movies will look the best. Wait till the blu ray discs come out fellas. HD-DVD's. That is what we need now!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure A Bug's Life, Monster's Inc., and Finding Nemo are direct digital transfers, so they should look great. DVDFile.com does good DVD reviews and they focus a lot on the transfer quality...I would check that out.

Monsters Inc and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones have the greatest transfers I've seen.

The Fifth Element is one of my favorite reference DVD's. The color and constrast in it will practially make your eyes bug out. Movies like Saving Private Ryan and XXX are good contrast torture test DVD's. The Imaging Science Foundation has a good list here.

Just pop Saving Private Ryan in, kick back, and watch some great visuals.

Black Hawk Down has some decent moments, but pales in compairson.

The Matrix Trilogy has some very good parts (at least the original).

I'm a little lazy to get up and look at my DVD collection to see what else I have that falls under that catagory.

all look new for films that are at least 36 years old

I would put another vote in for Fifth Element Superbit.

As well as:
Final Fantasy, it's dark. Most make it look murky though, well calibrated it looks great.

Episode II.
Toy Story II.

I would have to say though that maybe it's just my crappy equipment, but I've never liked how the original Matrix turned out.

The original matrix has some noticable grain on it. And it is not my equipment.

Season 1 of Futurama looks fantastic. I haven't seen the other seasons on DVD, but it's a top-notch transfer on this one.

I dont know how much of a difference it makes, but you could try some "super bit" movies.
