The Omen – I was about 10 years old and at a friends house. His parents were out, and because we were hard we watched it. It was in the middle of winter and very dark and I have never ran home so fast since. My bedroom light stayed on for weeks afterwards. I’m in my 30’s now and I still refuse to watch it.

bundy 04-08-2004 01:43 PM

John Wayne Bobbit: Uncut.

the whole idea is very very scary.

iamtheone 04-08-2004 04:29 PM

lol@ bundy, you alright brother.

I was going to say that too, something about that big empty building creeped me out.

How about Signs? I thought it was pretty good in the suspense factor.

That was a good flick. The Entity is another good one. Based on factial events too!

Nancy 04-12-2004 11:35 AM

1. The excorsist
2. The Ring

The excorsist is the scariest I've ever seen. I've only seen it 2 times and I don't think I'll ever see it again. It freeks me out too much :(

iamtheone 04-12-2004 03:24 PM

See, I could not get into the ring. The first scene was good. After that, it was kinda so-so.....

Two similar flicks in plot, The Haunting and The House on Haunted Hill had amazing ES sound that really made the movie.

gorilla 04-12-2004 05:43 PM

I've seen alot of these movies and they had no effect on me. The only movie I've ever seen that had me sleep deprived was... you're all gonna laugh at me but... it was Edward Scissorhands. I know, its pathetic. My brother, babysitter and me watched it when it came out on video. I was scared shitless. Just the thought of Micheal Jackson with knives, its not right!

cherriesue 04-19-2004 05:26 PM

Crossroads with Brittany Spears. And anything with Ben Affleck. That guy can't act his way out of a wet paper sack!

Shady 04-19-2004 08:23 PM

when i saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake in the theater, i thought it was scary as shit. but now that i have it on dvd, looking back, i can't understand why i thought it was so creepy.

Saw that movie when I was 9 years old. Scared the shit out of me. Signs creeped me out a lot. And the original Ringu just flat out ROCKS. Way scarier then the crappy american remake.

cherriesue 04-20-2004 10:06 PM

Signs kind of gave me the creeps too

Event Horizon creeped me out only because Spoiler: The quick flashbacks of the crew mutilating themselves was fucking disturbing. Surprised it wasn't NC-17 because of it
those were pretty sick & twisted... especially when watching them in super slow-motion!

Hrothgar 04-23-2004 12:43 AM

Sundance is showing Hideo Nakata's "Ghost Actress" this week. It's eerie and has images that would be put to better use when he did "Ring".

heccubusiv 04-25-2004 06:21 PM

The Ring was scary, so was the original Texas Chainsaw but that was moer creepy than scary

cherriesue 04-26-2004 12:08 AM

anything involving clowns

assilem 04-26-2004 12:38 PM

Anyone ever catch those little scenes in The Exorcist when in total darkness that scary-ass face just pops up and then goes away? You really have to be paying attention. But when you see it for the first time you just want to cry and be held.

THIS IS THE FACE (click at your own risk):

re: scariest movie/show ever...

it's so subjective as to when you see it. if you see movies like the Omen and Exorcist when you're only 10-11 years of age... they'll scare the crap out of you! if you see a scary show when you're 17 or older, it just doesn't have the same effect.

fwiw: I thought Kolchak: The Night Stalker was about the scariest thing ever. but then again, I think I was still in about 3rd grade at the time.

Heh, that's so true. When I was a kid, ET and Arachnophobia both scared the crap out of me. More recently the Ring and Event Horizon got me good. Silent Hill has already been mentioned but I'll also throw in System Shock 2, I almost soiled my pants once when I was playing with the lights off at around 2 am. It's a great game and there's even an updated graphics mod.

Polyphobic 04-29-2004 01:17 PM

When I was a kid it was Thriller (I know not a movie). MJ scared the crap out of me. Now it is more of the excorcist.

cherriesue 04-29-2004 03:46 PM

I'd have to say that MJ just flat out scares me

crow_daw 05-02-2004 06:47 PM

Well I just saw Gothika, and it was fucked up big time, but not the scariest ever.
I also was scared to death by Jeepers Creepers(I know, I know).
Most movies don't really scare me, but one on the list I have to agree with is Event Horizon, that movie fucked with my head.

Jadedfox 05-03-2004 12:23 AM

Usually I have no problems watching scary movies, but for some reason "The Ring" really freaked me out. I can't say why, but I had nightmares for weeks after seeing it.

I also heard that Gothica was pretty good. Worth the rent huh?

kurtisj 05-17-2004 07:15 AM

faces of death...its a small time group of documentaries(so i dont know if it would count) anyways it shows actual footage of people who recorded them killing themselves, what happens when someone gets shot in the face and other fuct up shit. it also includes dog fights and random rare shit of the sort

even though its a documentary i thought it deserved recognition

I saw that, and it scared the hell out of me! I never got to see the end of it though -- any idea where I could find it?

You "may" be able to get it from Discovery.com. I am not sure if they archieve their old films or not. That was a very good show! I could not believe the freakin' parents did nothing about that.....

Yeah, you'd think that after their oldest son went nutso and the two(?) younger boys were reporting all sorts of crazy shit in the basement they would have acted quicker.

They did eventually call some sort of ghost agency though, correct? This is about when I turned it off and fell asleep, so I'm a little hazy on certain details.

Yes, I remember something happening to the father. They brought in a priest but I think was unsuccessful and they moved from their house. Did I remember them saying that it followed?

Let me find some details.

iamtheone 05-17-2004 11:09 AM

There is a book called IN A DARK PLACE by Ray Garton as well as Devil in Connecticut by Gerald Brittle

1. the Exorcist
2. Parts of the Sixth Sense
3. The Ring
4. Signs (parts of)
5. The first Nightmare on Elm Street. Then again, I was really stoned when I saw it.

amonkie 06-14-2004 12:36 AM

Can't get scared by the exorcist, saw it with a friend who had not completely watched the entire movie after starting it 3 or 4 times because he would get absolutely freaked out. So I was spending half my time laughing at him. We also had the lights on, which automatically make movies less scary.

The Ring and Signs got me right to the bone.... I *just had* to leave during the part when the dad was getting into the one house... .

fhqwhgads 06-14-2004 04:44 AM

Pet Semetary freaked me out, only because I hate movies with freaky kids in them! Gage freaked me the hell out. It wasn't a scary movie per se, but put a freaky kid with a scalpel in a movie and I'm gonna seriously have some issues with it.

I don't trust small kids with knives.

ultra_agent9 06-17-2004 07:00 AM

The Ring really got me. Loved the idea of watching a video tape and having seven days to live. A girl, with black scraggly hair hanging over her face in a white dress COMING OUT OF THE TV- fuck! I couldn't sleep for a week. Although when I watch it now, it's not that bad at all. Will check out the Japanese version.

Event Horizon also scared the crap out of me. Can't watch it again. Probably same with The Exorcist.

Like some of you others, when I was a kid I watched Evil Dead and was absolutely terrified. Now I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Kind of disappointed with horrors today. It seems they rely more on SFX than a good story and edge-of-seat suspense. Still waiting for a good one to come along...
