Jeepers Creepers Truck Question

I need help. Can anyone tell me what kind of truck the demon drove in Jeepers Creepers? I need the brand, year, and type. Thanks a bunch!

"A late 1940's Model Rio" is the only information I can find.

From IMDB.com

Trivia for Jeepers Creepers:
  • Gina Philips (Patricia 'Trish' Jenner) and Justin Long were not allowed to meet Jonathan Breck before filming (in order to get a true reaction from them when they actually did see him with his full costume and makeup), nor did they see the BEATNGU truck before the opening scene was shot. When Philips first saw the truck, she said something to the effect of: "Is that the truck? Jeepers, that's creepy."
  • The gear shift in the car was originally in the steering column. It was installed into the floorboard to fit the needs of the script.

I have not seen the movie, so I have no idea what BEATNGU is.
From what I have read, is it the license plate of the truck in question?

Thanks Kadath. I've been looking around on the net and the only thing close to it is a 1942 (1 1/2) ton Chevy. Never heard of a Model Rio but I'll research it. Thanks again.

Please tell us what you thought it was. I looked at the Reo models and have no luck finding an exact match. I'm still trying to find "the" truck they used in the movie.

The closest 'looking' truck that I found is this one:
Of course they would have modded the truck to fit the bill - Hacking off the back to make a smaller box and such.

The caption below it on the website says "A Reo truck belonging to Public Freightways. Date unknown."

I think that it looks pretty close to the Jeepers Truck.
As for the truck itself, it was most likely auctioned off or is sitting in a warehouse if they want to make another film.

I thought it was a 1942 Chevy 1½-Ton Wrecker with a boxed up bed.

Found it

I finally found what the Jeepers Creepers truck is. It's an Art Deco Cab over Engine (COE) Chevy. You can take this link and scroll half way down the page. It's the light green one with the tall side-boards. An exact match.

So, what are you going to do with your findings now?

Now that I know what it is I'm going to start the search process of actually finding one to purchase. I'm going to do my best to replicate the one from the movie. It'll just be a toy that I can drive around.

Aw, it'll be fun. If I can make a few people get a laugh then it'll all be worth it.

Go rent the DVD from the first movie. They have an extensive extra on the cars of Jeeper Creepers.
They go into detail on how they built BEATNGU from the art deco cab and built the box themselves along with the other extras to make the truck look as nasty as it was.

You know that you are going to have to post the pics here whenever you get it finished.

That won't happen over night. I found that isn't easy to locate a 1941-1946 Chevy COE. Plus I need to get one at a reasonable price. My dad's friend used to work on big trucks, but the man is semi-retired. It's going to take some convincing to get him to work on the Creeper truck. We'll see what he says.

Whatever happens, if you manage to build a replica, definitely post it up here, I'd be severely interested in the process and the finished product.

Now good luck on finding the truck!

What?!? You can't find, purchase, and mod that old model truck overnight??
C'mon! What's the matter with you?

Don't worry about the length of time that it'll take you, the TFP is strong enough to be around.

I found it...

i have always wanted to know what the Jeepers Creepers truck was, and thanks to you guys i now know. However the site posted "http://www.6066gmctrucks.org/3947.htm" no longer works...or maybe its just my crappy computer. So i just googled "Art Deco Cab over Engine (COE) Chevy" and 7 minutes later i got this "http://www.brads41-46chevys.com/id8.html". it is number 45 of 50 on the bottom, and it is the original Jeepers Creepers 1 truck...i also joined this site just to reply to this thread. :P

The truck

1941 Chevy COE

From Tim:

Jeepers Creeper's 1941 Chevy COE. It's big, it's bad, and it's the most recognizable vehicle in horror film history -- the Creeper's truck. A 1941 Chevy flatbed, the effects team from the movie "Jeepers Creepers," transformed this former beauty into a real beast. The rear box was a custom fabrication and painstakingly painted to match the original cab condition, complete with fake rust bubbles.

The truck still has the original 6 cylinder engine with the four speed manual transmission and is a strong runner. The gas tank was removed and replaced with five gallon fuel cell for safety purposes and a modern fuel pump was added. The electrical system has also been modified to accept 12 volts for the headlights.

Turn signals, dash lights, radio? No way! Just one ear shattering accessory -- that un-mistakable, heart pounding horn.

The truck has had several different owners since the film's release in 2001. I spent over a year tracking down its whereabouts on the internet, finally finding it for sale in Florida. Wasting no time, I purchased the truck, had it shipped north then tagged it with the obligatory vanity plates from the film.

This truck is one of three that were specially made for "Jeepers." The second truck was modified with a V-8, and the third, which didn't run at all, was used for static shots in the movie. The location of the other two trucks is unknown.

Although the truck only appears in the first quarter of the film, it has created a lasting impact on horror movie audiences around the world. Check it out at your local video store. The disk contains extras with a behind the scenes look at designing the truck.

Thanks,
