Bulletproof Monk

What's the good word on this movie?

Is it worth the 8 bucks or should I wait till it's on the shelf at Blockbuster?

Nad Adam 04-19-2003 01:16 PM

I wouldn't even download a movie with that name.

Philogynist 04-19-2003 02:06 PM

wtf this movie will kick ass! Iam gona go see it in theaters,

oldtimer 04-19-2003 03:40 PM

Pah, n00bs! Horribly fake. Did not watch it but any movie that has such horribly fake graphics (especially in the trailer) and the use of a "Matrix" scene is desperate and not even worth to be on the theater screen. Chow Yun Fat's worst movie! Hey, ask Jet Li about that he's made plenty of them. The One, Romeo must die....need go on?

Mr.Deflok 04-19-2003 03:48 PM

Why is every movie that used Kung Fu deemed as a Matrix clone? Bloody hell, kung fu in movies is not new, it's decades old.

'The Brotherhood of the Wolf' (one of the worst movies ever made) had semi-kung-fu and the critics all said it was Matrix-esque.

oldtimer 04-19-2003 05:36 PM

Wrong again. I know the difference between "matrix" like scenes I see them all the time but I also know the difference between damn good kung fu and matrix shit. Bruce Lee flicks, every Jackie Chan movie ever made, and Twin Warriors of Jet Li (the most violent fighting movie you will ever see) are prime examples of what can be accomplished using good ol' fist to fist fighting rather than the overdone "green screen" and special effects. I take it you did not view the trailer where a bullet is shot he stares at it and tilts his head while staring at bullet. That is a failed atttempt at the matrix.

Mr.Deflok 04-19-2003 06:28 PM

"Wrong again"? When was I wrong before?

Sorry, I wasn't aiming my post towards your comment, and yip I did see the teaser and trailer. Wire-Fu has been done for a while now, A Man Called Hero had it and was made a few years before Matrix, besides the creators of the Matrix themselves have said all the fights scenes were influenced by Chinatown/Anime flicks.

As for the slo-mo bullet, though it looked crap in Bulletproof Monk Matrix wasn't the first movie to do it, I'm not sure which movie was but the first Blade movie had it and that came out a year before Matrix (I think, was before anyway).

What worries me the most about Bulletproof Monk is Sean William Scott, someone needs to throw him in a boot of an old car and drive it off into a lake.

Once again, I wasn't directing my comment at you personally, it's the damned critics that piss me off.

The Shadow had the first slo-mo bullet scene that I can remember. Basically, the Shadow, and bad-guy Gengis Khan both fire guns directly at each other, at the exact same time. The bullets do a slow-mo waltz through the air, and eventually collide head on and drop harmlessly to the floor. I was very bored at that point.

WTF? Brotherhood Of The Wolf was an excellent movie. Kung Fu, Gore, Mystery, Violence, Monsters, Tits... what more could you want?

oldtimer 04-20-2003 08:12 AM

I just know Bulletproof Monk is not interested in being a quality movie the title even proves this true.

w3r7y 04-20-2003 09:05 AM

I saw it.. fell asleep for half of it.. It really blew. Nazi's taking over the world.. bad guys named Funktastic. Just not a good scene

oldtimer 04-20-2003 02:45 PM

Thank you for proving my point.

Mr.Deflok 04-20-2003 04:54 PM

Chances are the movie sucks, plus it's based on a comic-book, so it looks like it's trying to cash in on the craze.

CSflim 04-21-2003 04:33 AM

Its such a pity, and a waste of talent. Chow Yun Fat rocks! Don't believe me? Watch hard boiled.... best action film ever! (If you don't mind subtitles!)

As much as i would like to smack all of you for getting off topic, posting punctuation marks, and starting to get testy with each other.. It seems like things worked themselves out after a few posts.. Good job guys!!

Anywho.. The comicbook is not a recent one, it's just be rereleased to provide "synergy" with the movie. The books's not bad.. the movie on the other hand.. well.. Depends on what your expectations are. Go see it with an open mind and eat lots of popcorn, either way.. at least you got out of the house :D

diergray 04-21-2003 08:42 AM

The first slow mo bullet scene I remember was from the classic Kill and Kill Again. At the end of the movie the hero jumps in the path of a bullet and deflects it with a piece of metal.

I enjoyed Brotherhood of the Wolf too. Unexpected ending and everything...

At aint-it-cool-news they slammed the nuts out of the movie.

Looks like a flop.

Darklight Adept 04-22-2003 03:13 PM

Well, I went and saw this last thursday. I thought it was gonna suck because it was chow yun fat and stiffler. Well, about 2 minutes into it, I realized they weren't taking themselves seriously. I watched it like I would watch a mel brooks movie.

If you see this movie, watch it as a parody of a martial-arts flick. And c'mon w3r7y, you know you laughed everytime Mr Funktastic spoke, lol. I considered it to be a fairly amusing jab at kung-fu flicks.

Yeah, the effects are not believable in the slightest, that's just another hint that they don't care enough to make it realistic.

anyhow, just my 2 cents on the matter

WhoaitsZ 04-28-2003 11:52 AM

chow yun fat. the killer. 'nuff said! :D

GSRIDER 04-28-2003 01:23 PM

The thing about Brotherhood of the Wolf is that the english dub ruined the movie for me completely.... but I'll watch the fuck out of the subtitled version.....

The bad english accents.. huh, hey they're french.

Two thumbs up for Brotherhood

diergray 04-28-2003 05:32 PM

I would rate bullet proof monk a 4 out of 10. The effects were lame and they didnt do much with the fight scenes either. Wait for video.

World's King 04-29-2003 01:24 AM

I saw it.

I wasn't that bad. I guess.
