Well, the wait's finally over. I cannot wait to see this flick, I've been hyped about it for so long. I'm trying to get some people rounded up to see a midnight showing, but no one's quite as into it as me, apparently. Is anyone else trying to see it at midnight?

I just hope this movie does well. From the looks of it, it's focused more on the psychological aspects of Batman/Bruce Wayne, and maybe not so much on the typical Hollywood action movie aspects. I think that's fantastic, but it probably equates to lower ticket sales. so everyone needs to go out and see it!! twice!

Everything I've heard regarding early press screenings has been positive. Seems like Nolan really hit it home.. not that I ever doubted it, I mean how in name of all things holy can you mess up a film with these names attached to it: Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Ken Watanabe, Christian Bale, Chris Nolan....

It was AMAZING. Go see it. It was everything I ever wanted from a Batman movie and more.

Cillian Murphy was excellent as Crane and I think this is the only movie Gary Oldman has acted in, the rest he was just himself

We finally see true Batman character development!!! Thank God!!
Bale: Absolutely owns the Batman/Wayne character. His interpritation of both sides of the coin really shows what a true actor (that's right, Keaton, Kilmer, and Cloony, you bastards) can do with this wonderful role. Spoiler: In his scenes with Liam, you can truely believe his hate and fear. There was something genuine about the way Wayne reacted to the loss of his parents and his wanting to take an active, if unique role in understanding and destroying crime.
Neeson: Oh...my...God. I've loved this actor since after that terrible House on Haunted Hill movie. The strength he can portray is astounding, only being superceeded by Edward James Olmos in the modern world of acting. His character is able to play dual roles as Spoiler: both mentor and antagonist, and is able to make the seamless transition between them.
Holmes: If a bit nipple happy, Holmes plays the heroine and romantic interest with surprising ability, inspite of her limited experience.
Oldman: Perfect, PERFECT as Gordon!! I never would have guessed that the same actor that played the cop on le Professional could play an iconic 'good cop' so well.
Caine: Caine is always able to add a bit of both classs, and kindness to a movie. He lends both very well in this movie. I'm glad he decided to take the role.
Freeman: Somehow the man who's played God can always have astounding presence. Who knew?
Director Nolan: Why'd we hire Burton again? Nolan should have been on board the Batman train from day one. He was able to expertly give the perfect setting to support the fantastic cast as well as developing the Batman story in a way that no one has been able to manage yet. It's clear that Nolan is a true Batman fan, unlike past directors (who all suck balls, btw).

Out of a possible 10 stars, Batman Begins recieves a 9.7 (my highest score to date).

Holy Bat-Nipple Tuesday! This movie did everything right.... I still can't believe just how well it all worked... this is the definitive Batman movie.

Bale pulled off Wayne and the Bat beautifully, and the rest of the cast, my god, they too were perfect. A wonderful script, astonishing directing (Nolan you fucking legend!)... I'm just so bloody excited, this was amazing!

I too have to say that the movie was incredible. I spent so much of the movie just grinning in my chair. I think they really captured the true grittyness of the city and not a camp schlock like burton did. I think burton might do a good job with Willy wonka, but he is not a batman fan. And the casting was great. Michael caine was perfect as alfred and I cannot wait until the next one comes out. And yes, the batmobile worked. It was a treat to watch.

Allow me to agree. This is the film I've been dreaming of since I was 13. As simple as it should have been, we finally got a movie about Batman.

All his gadgets and equipment made sense and were given a realistic precedent. This made the eventual appearance of "psycho dude in a bat-suit" believable, and for me, this is what the success of the movie hinged on. It was nice to see Lucius Fox, who in a lot of ways is a character necessary for making Batman believable, in the movie.

I'd say the overall tone of the film was closest to the Neal Adams era Batman (of course with a lot of modified "Year One" origin stuff).

Also interesting that the "Mask of Zorro" was replaced with, I'm guessing, Wagner's "Die Fledermaus."

I saw this movie last night. I am still shiting myself at how amazing it was. Someone finnaly did Batman Right. This movie kicked so much ass it isn't funny. Schumacher should watch this so he understands what a fucking tool he really is.

I heartily approve of this movie. You could really get a feel for what the characters were doing and why they were doing it. It's more 'intelligent' than other Batman movies have ever been. In one of the interview articles posted it was said that they want you to forget there have ever been other Batman movies; that is a good thing.


Of all the Batman movies, I only hold the original Batman on level with this one. While this kicks ass in every way Batman should, the very first is hilariously campy. (See: "Somedays, you just can't get rid of a bomb!")

Just got back from seeing it. Awesome movie. It was a great Batman.. I was actually afraid that I'd get bored during it w/ all the "batman's history" stuff, but no way.. I loved it.

Just saw it, and I friggin loved it. Casting was amazing all the way around. And I loved the action... you really felt that he was melting in and out of the shadows.

Anyone know how many (if any) sequels Bale/Nolan are attached to? I really hope this isn't the only film we'll see from this crew.


meh, so what if it's not a cinematic masterpiece. Does it have to be? This was an above average movie that happens to be a fantastic rendition of a character we love. So sue us for being excited.

I was debating about something with a friend of mine. The part where Bruce goes back to Gotham for the trial of his parents' murderer, was that a flashback? Or did he take a break from his training to go the trial? I thought it was a flashback, and that he began his life as a thief and his training right after that. I could just be assuming that Nolan likes to fuck with timelines though.

Spoiler: The trial was for the release of Joe Chill, the murdurer. He was sentenced and imprisoned between the time we see Bruce as a boy at his mansion hugging Caine and when he comes back as a collegian. Bruce came back for the release of Joe Chill - released for ratting on Falcone - when he was in college (Yale) to represent his family. It was a flashback.

Christian Bale was signed to do three movies. I don't know if they'll remake the existing ones, but at least it's more Batman movies, hopefully as good as this one.

Simply the best batman ever. Easily on par with the first one. (perhaps above!?) This, IMO, was the way Batman should be shown. Dark. Mysterious. Tortured soul. JUST FANTASTIC! Thank you Christopher Nolan!

They didn't have Jack Naiper kill the Waynes. I was really hoping that we'd see someone looking like a young Jack Nicholson appear in the alley behind the theatre...

The first good Batman movie, easily the best live action Batman ever, a nice mix of Year One, The Long Halloween, and Blind Justice. Every performance is right on the money, the look of the film is right on, the suit isn't terrible, the story well done and the focus is in the right place, on Batman and Bruce Wayne.

Unfortunately, there were two glaring flaws. First, the hand to hand fight scenes were for the most part awful. Bale can carry a fight scene; there's no need for the ultra fast cutting that doesn't show clearly what's going on. If you don't know how to stage a fight scene and present it clearly, hire a fight coreographer who does. Second, the big twist at the 3/4 mark was telegraphed 5 minutes into the movie, at least for anyone who's ever read a Ra's al Ghul story.

Fortunately, those elements are secondary ones that only detract a little from what is clearly a superior film for the Batman franchise. Not in my list of top 10 comic book movies, but still, a good Batman movie is a first.

The fights scenes were exactly what I was going to comment on Gilda. Why is it that American DPs and directors find it so hard to film a fight scene? From what I could see of the fights, it looked like they were choreographed well, just filmed and edited poorly. While in the past it was to cover up the obvious inexperience of the American cast members, many of today's action stars go through months of training before and during the filming to be able to pull off these scenes. Christian Bale performed well in Equilibirum, and can obviously hold his own in a fight scene. American DPs need to take a page out of the Asian DP playbook, using wide angle shots and very little cut scenes to showcase all the hard work the actors are putting into their roles.

But aside from this, the storyline and acting was spectacular, and I like the return to a simpler formula for these films, instead of the campy and exaggerated look of the previous ones.

From the sound of this movie (will see it soon), I have high hopes for future ones, which will hopefully involve a truly dark and twisted Joker.

Spoiler: That was because Naiper didn't kill the Waynes in the Comics, that was just a way to tie in the Movie. No basis to the comic book creation of Batman. At least that's my understanding

Napier doesnt exist in the comics, The Joker has never been given a name and probably never will. The whole Napier killing the parents thing in Burtons movie was just to tie Batman and Joker together. Hopefully they do a real Joker origin for the next movie, see Batman: The Killing Joke and Batman: The Man Who Laughs trade paper backs.
