Identity
As far as mind-fuck films go, Identity is a pretty interesting one. As far as puzzles go, there are too few clues to follow along. Sure, the movie gets you guessing, but you never have ANY evidence to base your clues on until one finaly flurry at the end of the movie. I just felt unfulfilled.
A good mind-fuck movie will make you fall to your knees at the end and scream at the ceiling, "I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ALL ALONG, GOD DAMN IT!!" but Identity give the viewer ANY useful information until the very end, so I am probably thinking I should rate this movie on a different scale? Oh whatever.. all the people who you know are gonna die... die. On the mind-fuck scale, I give Identity 3 question marks. Why does Ray Liotta always play a cop? |
Jacob's Ladder threw me into a mind-fiuck status, but and I really dont understand why: What Dreams May Come that movie twisted me around in a different kind of way.
Ray was running from'em in goodfellas, but I agree with your take on Identity; twisted. |
Halx, I just saw this flik tonight and I must say I agree with ya. I think it might be even more fun to watch it the second time around since we know what happens... then one can really look for clues. Maybe more "A-HA!" realizations will come about that way.

I don't know, I had an idea on how it was all going to go down about thrity minutes into it. However, it had several twists towards the end that kept it going. Plus, there were some excellent scares in there too. Good flick. Not quite at "Seven" or "Usual Suspects" standards, but right up there. |
I heard it was good, going to see it tonight.

Definitely want to see this movie. X2 also. Which first? hmmm.....
|
Meh. I saw it with my sister. The more she thinks about it, the more she likes. Opposite for myself. I found it ultimately disappointing. I usually like mind-fuck/trick ending movies, but this one just didn't do it for me. Something about a movie whose ending invalidates the whole film that pisses me off, I guess.

Whores dont get second chances.

i think this is the only movie where ray liotta isnt on cocaine

Hal, good points. I was anticipating a much better movie. The camera work, acting, lighting, editing, etc., etc., were all solid, but the movie missed on the Big Payoff.
Looking back on it, I wish they had stayed on the Indian Curse idea. |
Good film...not sure it was much of a "mystery film, but definitely well made and entertaining.
If you are looking for a good mind-fuck movie...check out the movie, "The Game." Great film, lots of twists and turns....:-) |
