Mecha Universe
Wasn't sure which forum this topic would fit into, seeing that it has produced some motion pictures (RoboTech 1 + 2), quite a few comic books, video games, animation shows, action figures, etc..
So, seeing that there's quite a few offsprings of Mecha based universe whether it'll be Battletech, Transformers, Gundam Wing, etc and I see that there's a common theme among those kinds of show. They all have robots that are controlled somehow by humans to fight against another similar robots. So, where exactly did this whole concept came from? I thought it was Battletech (Origined from 70's) since it seems to be older than any of the today's mecha based universe. Does anybody have any idea which universe is the original mecha universe?

I could've started with Astroboy. One of the OLDEST animes.

A lot of people point toward the original novel of Starship Troopers, where the soldiers wore powered armor. I've heard tell that Yoshiyuki Tomino (Gundam) and others were inspired by the idea.
