Northern Exposure

I don't know how many people were a fan of this series. I think it was one of the best tv series of the 90's.

Anyway, just received notification from Amazon that Universal Studios is finally releasing the first season on DVD. It'll be in stores May 25th.

Can't wait to get back to Cicely.

Quote:
Universal Home Video announced the DVD release of the debut season this morning, on a 2-disc (double-sided "DVD-14") set running at 384 minutes. List price is $59.98 for this set, which comes in a special limited-edition "Parka" packaging that is sure to be a collectible item. 4x3 video and English Dolby Surround Sound represent the original over-the-air presentation of this show, and on the DVD you also get French and Spanish subtitles to choose from. The discs are closed captioned for the hearing impaired, too.

With such a short season, Universal didn't want to disappoint the fans with too short a DVD release, so they are adding some nice bonus material to this box set. Look for these extras:

Deleted Scenes
Video Documentary Footage
Mock Movie Footage
"Unexposed" Footage

Excellent. I thought that show was great. Of course, like all good shows it started to go down hill towards the end, but they had some great characters/storylines.

Yeah, the last season was a nightmare. But it doesn't get any better than the first 2-3 seasons.

Had a bunch of great characters. Remember Alan Arkin as Adam, the gourmet bigfoot. Or Anthony Edwards as the hyper-allergic lawyer?

Yep. I didn't really care for the Anthony Edwards character though. Ed and his shaman like guide were excellent. The mayor and Holling were right up there too.

I never liked that show. My gf at the time loved it so I watched it. I just found all the character's nuances and quirks were more annoying than funny and entertaining. The only guy I liked was the star of the show, the doctor.

I enjoyed it for a few seasons.
It reminded me of Green Acres too much, though.

Lead straight-man character + wacky, quirky characters.

You wanted him to just grab one of 'em at least once and shake 'em like an earthquake!

Either series.

Looks like more to add to my list of needed DVD's! I really liked this show. Quantum Leap, that was great, but sort of corny now looking back on it.

I loved the show. I cant wait to get it on dvd I was hoping they would release it.
I think my favorite show of all times was the one where Maggie was engaged to a guy and he was out in the forest somewhere and struck by a satilite. They had the funeral for the guy and everyone was laughing as they were carrying the casket down the isle cause they just built the casket around the body...lol

I was trying to think of great moments on Northern Exposure, and there were a lot. But sometimes it was just the little bits of dialog that were brilliant -- stuff you didn't hear elsewhere on TV, because they were afraid Joe Average wouldn't get it.

NE started to get in a rut after season 3 and eventually went downhill in my opinion, but that doesn't take away from all the times that it was amazing.

Possibly my favorite show of all time. And yeah, it did start to go downhill toward the end, but you could feel everyone involved trying to hold it together....

One of the great things about the DVD era is that now you can get complete runs of a TV series in one convenient little package. My old VHS cassettes are trembling in their bulky plastic housings.
