Overboard Plots...
Last i was watching a show with my brother, called "without a trace" (a crime show, had never seen it before). As the show was ended rather clumsily my brother told me about the end concept of the previous show that was on, called CSI or something? (i know it's really popular, but i don't watch it?)
Anyway, apparently the end conclusion, to the main conflict, was that the Guy going on the murderous spree was killing people born on the date of his fathers death, i am pretty sure it was that? was quite a concept though. After hearing this concept i thought it was pretty funny and had a good laugh as i thought it was quite overboard really, sure TV is escapism, but you can only suspend your disbelief so far (especialy when a show is meant to be realistic). I think writers are trying to get too clever now, for their own good. Too many elborate and overboard schemes. Although their pretension may be good for a laugh I don't know, maybe others thoroughly enjoy this stuff? I think i'll be getting back to reading now.... |

Check out CSI and Law and Order. Those two shows are pretty good and I try to catch them whenever I find some time.
In CSI, it is kinda neat how they show you flashbacks on the case as it is being solved. The cases aren't that bad either. Recommended show. As for Law and Order, the cases seem to be more realistic. A lot more tension and emotion in each show. There's also usually a nice twist near the end which you don't see coming. Another cool show that is worth watching. |

Law and Order is one of the best shows out there. All three of them as well, including Criminal Intent and Special Victims Unit. Good interaction between the personal lives of the detectives and the plots of the shows.

You want overboard, try the last few James Bond flicks.
A former North Korean power freak son of a general getting a new body and face, then an ice palace, after seducing a double agent crypto bimbo, using a satellite destructo-thing controlled by Iron Man's exercise suit and a guy with diamonds implanted in his face, unintentionally somehow being thwarted by a secret british agent who has screwed every woman on the planet except his boss. But then, it could just be me.... |

The wife and I enjoy CSI, Without a Trace, and the L&O shows. We tend to gravitate toward dramas. Third Watch is another good one.

It is kinda hard to go overboard when you are talking about killing sprees and serial killers. Take a look at some of the case histories of these guys. Going off of a particular date really isn't that weird for a deranged person.

In the same respect...
S.W.A.T. had the worst plot know to man. I just watched it last night. They put in four different small stories into a hour and a half shit action film. No one wants to keep track of that much during an action film. Just blow shit up and an show me some tits.

Most of these writers get their ideas from news reports. Especially Law & Order, you can usually trace the show directly to a news report from the previous few weeks.
