What silly movies have given you nightmares in the past since you were little?

Like the tunnel scene from "Willy Wonka"

Or for me...the Tiki Man from "Three Tales of Terror"

Both movies are harmless...
but there was something about them that hit our little fears the right way.

I swear to god I used to get scared of an episode of Are you Afraid of the Dark? entitled "The Tale of the Dark Dragon" Mind you I could watch a friday the 13th or exorcist without any jumps at all but that episode got to me and I didn't see the end till my third viewing.

In the 80's cartoon THE TRANSFORMERS there was a combiner robot called Preda-King, that bastard scared the shit out of me.

He was made up of several robot beasts to make up the giant robot you see below.

where the one rabbit dies and then later on you just see a black silhouette of him hoping around from time to time... that movie gave me nightmares for years and too this day I can't watch that movie without my heart skipping a beat.. LOL I still see that rabbit in my sleep from time to time.

also The Secret of Nymn with the rat trapped in the cinder block drowning...

and the movie dot and the kangaroo scared the bajeezus out of me!

My cousin was... he also refused to watch The Wizard of Oz at our house, because of the flying monkeys and the Great Oz's big green head.

For me, it was that scene in E.T. where he got sick, and his skin turned all pale and chalky and his breathing got raspy. Stayed in my head for a while.

Hah, before I even clicked to open this thread I immediately thought of the tunnel scene in Willy Wonka. I remember making my mom fast forward it while my eyes were shut tight and ears plugged... truly a terrifying moment in my childhood .

Ernest Borgnine in his role as Detective Lt. Mike Rogo in the 1972 film The Poseidon Adventure. He was burned to death. They cavalierly threw a blanket over him and moved on. After that I couldn’t watch Hollywood Squares on television because when I saw him in the upper right square I kept thinking of his smoking corpse. My parents thought that hilarious.

I too was (still am) terrified of the frickey Zuni Fetish Doll from Karen Black's Trilogy of Terror. I find that most people a bit older or just a bit younger than me have never heard of it. The stupid thing only played on TV once or twice. I think it was the ABC Movie of the week on a Tuesday (or something like that). It pre-dates cable so the audience share would have been huge.

Jaws also freaked me out. Specifiacally the scene where they find the remains of the skinny dipper from the opening scene. I was sure that those crabs crawling on the remains would be at the bottom of my bed.

Michael Myers always scared me, and no, I'm not talking about Austin Powers . The Witches of Eastwick was pretty scary in some parts, but those are just a couple off the top of my head. Oh, and how could I forget Chucky. That son of a bitch from Childs Play scared the shit out of me. It was funny because my mom had just bought me a doll that was just like the one from Chucky. After I saw the movie I cut him up with a knife and through him in our neighbors yard .

I couldn't watch the X-files when I was a kid because it gave me the WORST nightmares. It was a problem though, because my mom loved the show and watched it every night. I had to make her shut the living room door so that I couldn't hear or see the TV while it was on.

if anyone saw the version of "snow white" on showtime a few years back, with sigourney weaver. it was made to reflect to original tale more accurately than any of the others. when sigourney was dressed as the old lady with apples. that gave me nightmares for weeks, and i still get chills thinking back on it.

I had forgotten about Willy Wonka. The Oompa Loompa's rolling the girl around and also the kid getting sucked up the tube after falling in the chocolate river. Very distrubing images.

Don't even get me started on the "There's a Monster at the End of This Book".

I used to love that book! Well, okay, I still do...a friend of mine was going through all the books and comics he had as a kid, and I had to sit down right there and read it.

As for scary...I remember watching the Blob (the 1988 version), and there was this scene where two teenagers are up at "the point" or whatever, parking. The girl is asleep, and the guy starts unbuttoning her shirt...and all of the sudden, she just...deflates or something. (and no, she wasn't a blow up doll) I'm pretty sure the guy came to a bad end, I remember him screaming and getting eaten or something...but the girl deflating like that scared the absolute shit out of me.

Also--Killer Klowns from Outer Space. My dad loved this movie, and watched it often. I've blocked most of it out, but I remember a scene in a bathroom, with clowns in the tub or something...*shudder*

The tunnel scene from Willy Wonka scared me too...and in Cocoon, when Steve Guttenberg (I think) is watching through the keyhole while the girl's undressing...and then she removed her skin...I was terrified.

There was this We-Sing video, if anyone remembers what
We-Sing is, and they had this one character who was a gigantic bear, and at one point, he stared out of his cave...that scared the bejesus outta me.

There was also this book called "Ms. Nelson is Missing," and it was all about the creepy ass, evil substitute teacher, named Viola Swamp, who took over this class of misbehaving children. That bitch scared me SO much.

When I was little I incredibly scared of E.T. That movies was the scariest thing in the world to me for so long. I had a reaccuring dream for years about him chasing me around in my back yard...

And Howard the Duck made me sleep with the lights on too. I saw the movie when I was six or something and became permanently afraid of walking, talking ducks.
