Indeed, the acting was far, far better than every Superhero movie I've seen, hell, it was far, far better than the vast majority of all movies I've seen.

You are the first person I have read that gave it a negative review. This was truely one of the best story movies ever IMHO.

Some amazing action sequences though. and the way they portray doc oc is awesome.

i fully admit to being a bit of a movie snob, however i was prepared to see a fun summer movie last night and i felt this didn't deliver. the writing treated the audience like a bunch of idiots (plot points were reiterated over and over again) and some scenes (the tea party with octavious and his wife giving cheesy love advise to peter) were painful in their poor acting. I also was less impressed with the special effects than i would have liked -- i could practically *See* the blue screen when octavious was framed against the fusion reaction at the end, right before he drowned the entire thing.

I'm going to refrain from commentary on the plot out of respect for the comic book genre :).

I think people are enjoying this movie out of love for the characters and the genre. it might be better than most comic book adaptations at accurately reflecting the characters but i didn't think it was particularly good as a stand alone project. (ie maybe i'd love it if i had been a bigger spider man fan as a kid).

I saw the movie and I loved it. It did have a couple cheesy lines in it, but that doesn't make it a bad movie.

I'm pretty sure I liked it more than the first one, its been awhile since ive seen it.

I didn't see the first one, and I've never been into comic books (I respect them, just not my kinda thing..)...and I'm not much of a fan of many big-hollywood-movies...but I will be watching this in a few minutes.

We just saw it and it was better than the first. The storyline and plot construction were superior, more crafted.

I did spot one weakness though that may be a problem for the franchise in that the villains are all villainous only because of science gone wrong - they are villains against their will, be it Ock or Goblin (or soon Harry Osborne, The Lizard, or Venom). Yes, I know in the books the villain reflecting Peter is a theme, but I think movie audiences will say "Haven't I seen this before?" when the Lizard makes his appearance.

Let's get a really villainous villain next time. A guy who is a bad guy and likes it. Mysterio maybe.

I read a review that really embraced the fact that Doc Ock was a villain against his will. People who are just evil to be evil (like the Green Goblin) are usually one-dimensional and not very interesting. I rather like the personal connection between Harry and Peter playing into the Hobgoblin vs Spider-Man story... gives it much more depth than just another super villain who hates the hero because he once wrecked his plans.

First, I'll say that I've never read a Spider-man comic in my life. With that said, I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I enjoyed the movie...I was entertained....but I didn't think it was that good. The thing that bugged me the most was that it felt so damn cheesy most of the time. I did like the movie, but I think the first one might have been better. Maybe Spider-man is the best in terms of comic book adaptations, but I don't care what anyone says, the best comic book movie to date for me is Batman (the first one). Nothing else is even close.

But don't forget, the Green Goblin was not a villain of his own will either. He had a fractured, split personality thing going on as a result of the Green Goblin injection he took. He wasn't a great guy beforehand, but he wasn't a villain either.

I'd just like to see them change it up a bit for the next movie...

Now that we know Sam is going to use a goblin for the third movie (which I disagree with), I want to see a true Goblin costume. I can understand using the Goblin tank outfit from the first movie, because they had to rationalize why he dresses in a green suit with a goblin helmet. But with Harry, Sam can take it to the next level and have Harry in a real Green Goblin outfit.

That being said, I prefer the Hobgoblin costume, as it looks badass:

I loved the movie!!!
I was bouncing in my seat the entire time, and can't wait to see it again.
For the next movie though, I would like to see Harry use the old school Green Goblin costume, with the stocking cap and all.
As for Venom/Carnage, I'm just worried that the effects will be awful. I know that technology has come a long way, but after seeing Spawn's cape, it still worries me that a villan like Venom/Carnage, who will have to ve almost all CGI, will end up looking like Spawn's cape.
One other question...I noticed that the doctor that Pete talks to was an actor named John Landis...is this THE John Landis?

I can see your point...and somewhat agree.
I mean, if I look at it as just a movie, it's pretty entertaining, but... I can see the cheese.

However, even tho I'm not familiar with any comic books, If I look at it in terms of a comic book, i find that counters much of the cheese and makes it acceptable/excuseable.

So yeah, I liked it a lot. I think it's only fair to look at it within the comic book context, and, in that case, I think it did very well.

I love how Raimi leaves the door open for future villains by introducing Doc Conners and revealling spideys identity to Harry. But as the final chapter to my favorite movie series, screw the lizard and the goblin! I want it to go out in a bang.

Lets hope in 3 they bring in two villains. How bout bringing in Brock and Venom to the story as well as the Jamesons son coming back to earth and unleashing the martian symbiote on Cletus Cassidy?

See.. here's how people begin to dislike movies: They show up at the theater for a movie like The Core and expect to see an oscar-winning performance. But it's a sci-fi movie with a plot that they KNOW is over the top. The movie, however, for what it is, is pretty damn good in it's own context.

This is the same for Spider-Man 2. If you go to the theater expecting Titanic or Lord of the Rings, you're gonna get disappointed. This is Spider-Man. It's a comic book movie. It's the absolute best comic book movie ever made.

I just flat out didn't liked it. I enjoyed Spiderman but the 2nd one didn't do anything for me. The only good thing about it was being able to see Kirsten Dunst again.

I saw it last night and I loved it. I went out and bought the first one on DVD today hah. I recommend it, that is if you're looking for a really fun and humorous movie, not the next oscar winner.

This was one of the best movies I've ever seen. There were scenes that just gave me chills and were so moving. The scene in the subway car when the people are carrying him is just moving. Then that kid saying," We'll keep your secret," almost had me crying like a teenage girl watching the last episode of Dawson's Creek.

One problem I had with the movie, it's not really the movie, it's the theater. All these parents brought their little 3 and under kids and the kids were making noises and crying at some of the most sensitive parts. I'm trying to listen to Peter speech to Aunt May and I hear this damn kid crying in the back. If you can't shut up your kid, don't bring them to a movie.

Oh, and shut off your damn cell phone. A cell phone rang in the middle of the movie and I was ready to punch that guy.

Even with all those distractions I still liked, no.. loved this movie.

OMG!!! I just saw this movie!!! I just loooooooooooooooove how they portray his personal life so shitty is because he's always late. It is dead on, directly taken from the cartoon!!! And the fighting at the clock tower, SU-FUCKING-PERB!!! I fucking love this movie so much I have to stop myself from taking my pants off to wank in the theater. Quite correct, Halx. Don't expect fucking Citizen Kane here people. This is a comic book movie, and if you've NEVER read or seen a comic book, you're gonna just not get the story-telling devices that Raimi and company use. It's a good mix for those who aren't entirely familiar with the series, and comic-book-like enough to satisfy the freaks who've been with the comics since issue 1.

I saw it, and I was thoroughly impressed. It was a well put together story and very much in the spirit of Spider-Man. I mean, we'll overlook the fact that Pete should be getting over Gwen Stacy at this point and move on. Ok, in the comics, Doc Ock, is indeed a villain against his will, the arms are sentient and they drive him crazy, that's not a problem. This recurring theme has already been seen by the great amount of the public, because, you won't find too many anti-Spider-Man people, cuz jeez, he's a lovable loser and an underdog, not many people out there would root against that. This public knows how the Spidey plot evolves, and they'll expect it and I don't think they'll get that deja vu feeling that non-established franchises get. However, if there was one thing that I would change in the movies is that, Spidey's too damn serious. In the comics, he's snappin off one-liners like crazy while he's dukin it out with everybody, and I think that Sam Raimi needs to showcase that more. Really that's my only problem, I can overlook the Gwen Stacy thing (even tho that did take me a few months to get over) the plot change is done within the spirit of the established story; but I want lines like "Hey, you screwed up your theme, crazed green lunatic costume day was last friday!" outta Spidey.

2st one sucked ass. so i don't plan on seeing this one. i hate comic book movies... only one i can love is Blade because he kills alot of ppl! and the xmen movies are good because they have a plan(defending themselves) unlike stupid heros like spiderman... Yeah, I read a review off of hotmail today that said she was in it in a foreshadow to the third one. I never noticed it...guess they were full of crack. Probably figured it was the landlords daughter. After all, a blonde character in SM must obviously be The Black Cat. Thanks, that was driving me nuts!

i read an interview with kirsten dunst where she was walking about introducing the black cat, but they cut those scenes out.

i don't know how much i'd nitpick a comic book movie =p you could ask why with super human agility and a spider sense he still manages to trip over himself on the sidewalk. ;)

as for a venom/carnage movie i don't think that's gonna happen, at least anytime soon. because it'd suck. ok maybe it woouldn't, but highly likely it would suck. it'd just be a pure CGI fest, i keep thinking spawn as someone mentioned before.

besides, raimi's got enough to worry about. heh i don't know how he's gonna top this. freaking AWESOME movie. he's got his work cut out for him =/

Well, it's my opinion that the AI that was behind making the tentacles work also kept his brain from allowing him to feel pain to a certain degree, and to keep him from passing out.
Well, at that point in the movie, his powers were failing him, so it's not too much of a suprise to me that he would be a clumsy bitch.

Except we skipped the Gwen Stacy storyline. Sorry, knee-jerk reaction. I think the most logical next step in the plot-line would be the Sinister Six, because that's who he was fighting at the time of all his mutagenic accelerations into the...well, I won't spoil it for those casual fans of Spidey. Let's just say it has a connection with Pete losing his powers. Actually, scratch that, because Sam Raimi has yet to introduce The Lizard, Shocker, Mysterio, Scorpion, and The Chameleon, so he's probably going to follow the loss of powers storyline and involve Connors in it and bingo bango we've got a Lizard on our hands. One of these days, we're eventually going to have a cross-over movie, and let's hope that gets done right, because I don't want that to suck.

What about Harry Osborne though, that's a huge storyline possibility. I doubt Raimi could continue so far into the Spider-Man universe to get into them, at least not with his current stars. I mean, Kirsten Dunst seems to want out after the next movie, same thing for Tobey Maguire.
