Don't forget kids slippers, jammies and fruit snacks. (Robbie's already got these) :D

I dunno. I don't hold much hope for the actual quality of the movie. Like Mr.Deflok, I too get bored watching "Spidey fly around the city for so long". (Cool CGI, but give it a rest) Thing is, I've always been a big Spiderman fan. He first came out the year I was born, 1962. So, you could say...we grew up together. On a side note. Superman came out in 1938, the year my father was born. Yup, he's a Superman fan. The point of all this is...yeah, I'm as excited as a kid at Christmas time!! And if absolutely nothing else...there's always Mary Jane. Kirsten Dunst...as a redhead even...rrrowrr.

I am so jealous!!! I got my tickets for Wednesday at noon! Really excited about this one!

choskins 06-29-2004 01:09 PM

I will probably see it tomorrow during the day. I can't wait either.

Lasereth 06-29-2004 03:38 PM

We got tickets for tomorrow after work. I can't wait!! I still can't believe it's getting so good of reviews. This movie must be incredible (don't give me crap about how all reviewers suck, because I disagree and trust a few of them 100% and can't be persuaded otherwise).

KellyC 06-29-2004 04:08 PM

The first one kicked so much ass, I hope this one will too. :D

Kazic 06-29-2004 07:00 PM

Was excited for this one more so than the first.
I like some limited trailers but now there are too many for the same movie so I avoid them altogether. I don't even watch tv spots.
So I am more excited to see what others have seen already.

Kazic 06-29-2004 07:01 PM

Oh yeah going tomorrow straight afterwork aswell.

Reese 06-30-2004 12:04 AM

I just watched the midnight show, Maybe someone else with a little more knowledge can help me out with a few things.

Spoiler: What was the deal with the "rain drops are fallin on my head" scene? I figure it was paying homage to something, but what?

And was Henry Jackson a character I should know? The kid next door? they seemed to be hinting that he was going to be an important character someday, but who is he?

Halx 06-30-2004 01:27 AM

A BILLION KAJILLION FUCKING STARS!!!! HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!

I AM NOT FUCKING SHITTING YOU!! BEST FUCKING MOVIE!!!!!!!!

Halx 06-30-2004 01:37 AM

Ok.. I've caught my breath.

I read Spider-Man comics when I was a kid. Everything in this movie was satisfying to my very soul. I absolutely loved every single scene and every line that was spoken. I almost cried because I was so happy. The story was masterfully crafted. I don't know if there is any more or less action in this than the first movie, but the non-action scenes are just as engaging and impactful as the ones where shit's going down. Doctor Octopus was pulled off excellently.

There is really not much else to say. A review I skimmed over earlier said it fairly well... it's the most comic-booky comic-book movie to date. It's more than that, though. It's damn amazing... Spider-Man!!!

cardfrek 06-30-2004 04:42 AM

I totally agree Hal. I liked how they made Doc Ock likeable at the beginning and how he dealt with the arms later on in the movie, and poor Peter Parker can never get a break. When it rains it pours on him. And the 2 big fights in the movie were amazing. Best comic book movie ever.

hulk 06-30-2004 05:04 AM

Indeed. Just saw it about 4 hours ago, and it DOES ROCK AWESOME. The train scene was just mindblowing. Held me from beginning to end. ROLL ON WITH NUMBER 3!

bookerV 06-30-2004 06:43 AM

My buddy is out picking up tickets for the late show right now. I love long weekends. Very much looking forward to seeing this.

Cynthetiq 06-30-2004 07:16 AM

gah... missed my opportunity for a freebie screening the other night... but I'll go to a late show on Friday night :)

Damn straight, BOR ;)

I saw it last night and was thrilled, it was LOADS better than the first, in my opinion, not so much exposition, just plenty of story and plenty of action, just great.

The script was utterly fantastic. (I expect nothing less when one of the screenwriters recently won a Pulitzer). The fights scenes were spectacular. The direction was varied, they used several different filiming techniques and styles that made it entertaining to watch.

The only complaint I have is that some of the extras/one-line actors were just complete shit, and my friends and I laughed at how badly theser folks delivered their ONE line.

And I loved the ending. that is all i will say...(sigh...)

moonstrucksoul 06-30-2004 10:32 AM

saw it this morning, excellent !. took my four year old son. he loved it.

How can I say it any better than that. Peter Parker's story was so good that I forgot completely about the fantasy elements of the movie. I've never watched a superhero movie without thinking in the back of my head "I can't wait until they fight". In this movie I just wanted things to be resolved for Peter. Tobey took this role serious, and this really adds a lot of weight to the movie. At times it seemed like I was watching something just as serious as "Cider House Rules". I can't wait to see it again!

Asuka{eve} 06-30-2004 01:53 PM

I watched it IT ROCKED> OMGWTF IT ROX0r. MAn there is too many good things to say about the movie. In other words this movie is the "must see movie of the summer".

Fremen 06-30-2004 04:12 PM

Goosebumps broke out all over me just reading your posts/reviews, any idea when this sucker comes out on dvd?

*pant-pant*

Anticipation....

Quadraton 06-30-2004 04:23 PM

Saw the movie this afternoon.

This movie proves what I've been telling others all along. Give the audience an intelligent story line, put some effort into developing the characters, and stop focussing so much on things like special effects and battle scenes (Matrix anyone?), and you will create a movie that people will absolutely love.

(Spoilers: Highlight white to read)

This movie absolutely rocked! It defies the Law of Sequels that states the second movie will be worst than the first. Sam Raimi made a brilliant move by taking the least expected route. That is, he focussed the better part of the movie, not on Spiderman, but on Peter Parker. To that end, they played up the part of 'tormented hero' really well. By the time Peter Parker decided to give up being Spiderman, you actually felt the frustration he was feeling.

(I also love how they're playing the bit about Spiderman losing his powers. I wonder if the in next movie he begins mutating into the spider creature).

The only thing I hate is how all these really cool bad guys keep finding out Spiderman's identity, then dying by the end of the movie. This means there's no chance of ever seeing them again, which means we'll never get to see Doc Ock again.

On a side note, I wonder how long it will take them to come out with Venom and Carnage?

Overall, even if you didn't like the first movie too much, you should definitely go see this one. It provides you with more than just simple eye candy like most sequels do. This one actually makes you feel a part of the movie, which is why you will most likely enjoy this one so much.

Anybody see the Stan Lee cameo?

This movie is wonderful.

He was the guy avoiding the falling debris in the clock tower scene. I always look for him in Marvel movies/TV shows :)

Halx 06-30-2004 04:30 PM

I caught the cameo.. much quicker than all of his other cameos, but I definately saw it.

Quadraton 06-30-2004 05:14 PM

And did anyone else notice that it was Bruce Campbell as the usher? I thought that was really cool.

I didn't realize it was him at first. He's gotten a little...chubbier over the years.

djtestudo 06-30-2004 07:01 PM

I just saw the first one for the first time tonight, and after reading all of this as well, I WILL be seeing number two as soon as I possibly can :D

Boy, when so many others put the words out there, I just can't help but use them.

This movie was THE definitive comic-book adaptation. Holy shit. It's amazing what Sam Raimi and company have done to plot out the incredibly difficult plot and character arcs with such grace that no important element of the story is sacrificed, nor is development of character. I must truly agree with Primal's statement

because that was the way I felt when I was watching the character development sequences. Hell, there were times that I almost dismissed the importance of Spider-Man, save that he acts as the counter-part to our real hero, Peter Parker. I think, what happens here is that, Parker is brought back into focus, as is truly necessary for the story. Parker isn't Spider-Man, not all the time, and I think with the first movie, people forgot about the man behind the mask, that there was indeed, a young, troubled man trying to define himself as a human being, and discovering all these things about himself. This movie continues that core story arc, and does it with style and grace that only a comic book, over a series of at least 5-20 issues could capture. Congratulations Sam Raimi and company, you, like X-Men 2, Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, Blade 2 and so few others, have broken the Rule of Sequels, and you've done it damn well.
Spoiler: I think it's fucking awesome how Willem Dafoe plays a small bit part to get the ball rolling on the 3rd movie. "AVENGE ME!!!!" What a badass.

Spoiler: Oh yeah, had to mention, I think Stan Lee is also in the scene where Peter is washing his suit. It's hilarious, he goes through so much shit with his suit in the comics. Excellent work Sam.

4 fucking stars.

EDIT: All the Evil Dead references were comic platinum. The chainsaw. Holy christ. Best.Movie.Ever.

EDIT2: Excelsior!

Redjake 06-30-2004 07:21 PM

4 stars (out of 4). One of the best movies of the year. I loved every bit! I actually cared about the characters.

Laughed hysterically at the chainsaw and "tentacle-cam" in the operating room. GO RAIMI GO!!

Lasereth 06-30-2004 07:30 PM

Just got back. EXCELLENT movie! Much, much better than the first. Doc Oc is my new hero. Well, anti-hero if you will! Raimi did what Tarantino did with Kill Bill 2: made a sequel that has less action than the first, concentrated on character development, and has now ended up with a contemporary masterpiece.

I also LOVED the Evil Dead homage during the hospital scene. I laughed out loud during the chainsaw part while the rest of the theater was sitting there silent.

SuperJay 06-30-2004 08:57 PM

OK... WOW!!!!

That was the best movie I have seen in a long time. I really love the Spider-Man movies and they are doing a great job with them.
Doc Ock was, imho, perfect. I don't think they could have done a better job. When I think of Doc Ock that is what I see. The arm, the insanity, the genius, the strength and the fighting style were all perfect.
J. J. Jameson still stole every scene he was in, and rightly so. The character is over the top and it is carried through in the movie.
If anyone was sitting on the fence about seeing this movie, don't. You should go and then go again.

Five out of five stars.

hulk 06-30-2004 09:26 PM

Heh, I spotted Stan Lee as well =P Now, if the improvement for the next movie is as much as this one was, it'll be the best movie ever!

hawkeye 06-30-2004 09:57 PM

10//5

for my opinion, you can just read hal's post.

Fire 07-01-2004 01:56 AM

great movie, interestingly enough, the dagger featured prominantly in one scene is one that I sell- and just gave as a wedding gift to a friend who is a huge spider man fan- and he was at the movie with me- nice suprise realy

NoSoup 07-01-2004 08:36 AM

Excellent movie - and a movie that finally, the first in a long, long time, violated the rule of the sequels. Far better than the 1st, IMHO.

Also, the Game regarding this movie is great too, although I would caution you to see the movie first, as the game plot is similar to the movie plot.

Actually, I found that Shrek 2 did a great job as a sequel as well, so it was nice having two sequels in one year that didn't suck.

You're right! I knew the camera work and everything in that scene were kind of tributes to Evil Dead, i just totally didn't think about the chainsaw!

evilbeefchan 07-01-2004 10:48 PM

This is THE movie that makes me proud to be a comicbook fan. I loved the first one, but a lot of people didn't enjoy it as much, which really put a downer on my self esteem. But this was just way beyond anything I expected. Way better than X-2, topping my super hero comic movie list. Spoiler: Anybody think they rushed the Spidey revealing his identity? I mean once he lost his mask in the subway, he kept doing it over and over like a junkie or something.

hulk 07-02-2004 05:11 AM

Yeah, but they did have to fit it all in to one movie. I took the movie as Peter having one downfall after another, but he managed to overcome the general shittiness of his circumstances and prevail =)

No I think that, considering how many of the other story arcs got pushed along very quickly in comparison to the comic books, the pacing of Spider-Man's identity being revealed to those who it had to be revealed to was perfect. I mean, take a look at Ultimate Spider-Man, MJ finds out that Parker is Spider-Man, like less than 10 issues into the series (just an estimate, I'll have to check my collection to be sure.) In any case, all those important to the series find out who Spider-Man really is in their due time, and it was a respectable choice of Sam Raimi and Co. to go ahead and reveal it to many of these parties already. I wasn't really surprised at all when Parker was revealed to Osborn and Watson when he was, I mean, if there are only gonna be 3 movies, then there's no concievable way to keep from revealing that Parker is Spider-Man for any longer than they did.

brianna 07-02-2004 08:36 AM

wow, i can't believe everyone liked this so much. I went last night in hopes of seeing a good action movie and i was disappointed across the board. I really liked the first movie but the writing in this one was sub par, and thew acting awful. i imagine it would still be a pretty fun flick if you're *really* into comic books but while watching it i kept laughing to myself at inappropriate moments.

Please tell me you were under the influence of something. Please! That movie was the single most satisfying work of art that I've ever watched.
