Anyone else think MI:2 is better than it gets credit for?

I mean this film was pretty much universally panned by the critics, but seriously what's wrong with it? It's an action film, it's not supposed to be clever. And as an action film I'd say it's damn good - great stunts (asphalt surfing anyone?), a couple of good fights (Cruise's sommersault leg drop/axe kick looked awesome), a gorgeous female sidekick and lots of guns. Taken for what it is - a fun, all action showcase that you don't have to think about, I think it's pretty good. Opinions?

Not really.

It was a good action flick like you said, but it didnt really have anything disinguishing about it. Same old, same old. MI:1 was an excellent movie, good suspense, *story driven*, and a good time. I probably give MI:2 3/5 stars. Like you said, good action, but not much else.

a little too much American John Woo IMHO. I didn't like the story so much as I did the first.

Ditto, ditto, and ditto. Stylish (read: tacky), but lacking substance.

added: i remember reading that David Fincher was attached to MI:3. But IMDB says that is no longer the case. That's a REAL shame, I thought it would have been a great idea.

Yup, fraid I got to side with the popular opinion. The movie just felt like an excersice in what makes John Woo John Woo. In fact, they could of taken two or three references out, got a new theme song, and called it "Super action cliff hanging dove fest", instead of MI2, imo. I loved the first movie, and will always regret that they ever made the second.

*sound of crickets chirping*

I loved the story-driven first movie, and was very dismayed coming out of the cineplex after seeing the action-set-piece-driven second movie. The first managed to have its share of action scenes *and* have an intriguing story to go along with it.

I gave it a fair chance...but I still thought it was terrible. The typical sequel, try to top the first and fall flat on it's face.

You know I didn't know what the hell was going in M:I so MI:2 was a welcome change for me. Plus John Woo is my favorite director, he totally kicks ass. What? Windtalkers? I'm sorry sir, I don't know what you're speaking of...

This might go into the category of "Action" ...but boy was it boring "action"...
I dont think 2 or three nice looking acrobatics makes for a good movie.
I did not, in any way, feel any interest stirring inme, from start to finish... and even for a typical "Action" movie, the characters felt cardboard'ish.

It was a fun movie. I didn't expect much more from it. That beach scene was fun! And the doves and the killing. It wasn't going to win any Oscars. I think everyone knew that. You have to admit it was better than the first one. I've seen that I dont know how many times and I still don't get it.

I liked it a bunch more than MI:1...although I feel funny owning a part 2 and not the part 1.

I agree with half of what Falcon said. I LOVED MI:2 way more than the first one, and only own MI2 on DVD. I didn't like the first one at all, thus the reason I don't own it on DVD.

It is the second most underrated action flick in American film history, right after Equilibrium.

Second was fukin boring. Everything in the first hour of the movie is just something that's been repeated in hundreds of other action movies.

I just sat in the theater and fell asleep.

For an action movie...that's bad...just plain bad...

they only cool part about MI:2 was the intro with him Rock Climbing scene. Other than that..I was disappointed. I didn't really feel like he was on some "Impossible" mission like the first. The suspense was horrible and...if they did the "mask" thing one more time...I would going to scream. They did it like 3 or 4 times in that movie. The did it in the first and it was done well. It should have stayed there.

That movie was a pile of shit, he kicks a gun at the end, and it flys up into his hands. Im all about cheezy movies and fun films, but that was just fucking stupid.

no, it totally deserves all it gets.
first of all, that scene where apparently they are in the Aussie outback, and theres a shack and a kangaroo ... what a load of utter bullshit.
then there´s RIchard Roxburghs crap Satha accent... he was great as Roger Rogerson in Blue Murder, but for even appearing in that MI2 disaster, he should be shot.
then theres the whole Tom Cruise problem...
well, this is just my 2c, but i hated every moment of that film.
wish i could have that $10 back.
