So, who bought LoTR TTT:EE?
I haven't...yet! I have to hold off until 7 am when WalMart opens. :D
|
Haven't gotten it yet but will in the next day or two. The local Media Play was open until 2am here and were supposed to start selling it at midnight but the wifes at work and I really didn't feel like waking up the kids and heading there just for a movie.
|
I gotta wait 'til the ol' wallet grows fat again.
But sssoon, my precioussss! Yessss! |
I'll probably pick it up on Black Friday. I can't waaait though :D
|
I got it, I ended up getting the Super Special Edition with the Gollum statue, note to all Collectible Collectors: YOU MUST OWN THIS VERSION!!! It shows a lot about how the Weta Statues were made and is quite insightful, plus the Gollum statue is excellent. I watched a fair bit of the EE scenes a few moments ago and I must say that the scene where Faramir finds Boromir's dead body floating down the river is scary as hell. It's shot magnificantly. As it stands now my favourite addition to the TTT film is an end to the Helm's Deep battle, you actually see the enemy's army get driven back into the forest along with more scenes that sort of resolve the current situations with all the characters at hand.
|
thanks for the tip Deflok.
iŽll buy it tomorrow. |
On order. Should be in my mailbox today
|
Got it yesterday, haven't had a chance to watch it because I watched tomb raider and santa clause 2 first. I had to have them on the shelf at 9am today if you're wondering why i watched them instead of TTT:EE.
|
Just got it! Wheeee! :D
|
So what's the difference between the Extended Edition and the Super Mega Extended Edition? Other than you get a statue in the SMEE version.

I ordered mine on Amazon many months ago. Unfortunately, its being shipped to my house, and as I'm at school right now, I won't be able to watch it till I go home for Thanksgiving. :(
|
Woohooo! Just checked out the offical site and the only difference between the EE and the Gift Set is the Gollum statue. You get a booklet and extra DVD about the making of the statue, but I can live without that. Especially since there's a $40 price difference. I'm soo exited... and I just can't hide it.... weeee!
|
I hated the film version of The Two Towers. I'm not going to see The Return of the King. Unless Peter Jackson has changed all of the characters to better resemble their literary counterparts, I would never buy any edition of the movie.

So for those of you who bought it, does it include a free ticket to see ROTK like FOTR:EE did for TTT?
|
Getting it for Xmas :)

I just finished watching it... it was very good.
...although for the record, I'm still glad I have the theatrical release too. (Uh oh, I bet that's gonna start some arguments). |

I hear that the theatrical release DVD has some unique extras. Mr Mephisto |

All Hail the might of peter Jackson's marketing team- all hail the glory of franchises
seriously though its nice to support a franchise created around a series of movies that is well done for once- jackson is the George lucas of today- and sadly lucas is becoming that guy who shot Plan 9 from outer space |
I got it yesterday and ive gotta say that IT PUMPS ASS! I WAS GOBSMACKED BY HOW MUCH BETTER IT WAS THAN THE THEATRICAL RELEASE. BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
ok, like i said i was going to, i bought this today!!!
AND IT ROCKS!! brilliant... i think its just the BEST marketing ploy to have the shortened version in the cinemas, and then have the better, extended, understandable version come out a little later, on dvd. just brilliant. |
Mine is on the way from Amazon... can't wait!
|
I bought mine yesterday afternoon. Though, I am curious how much some of you paid for the dvd set. The price I paid, $22.99, seemed very low. However, I'm not complaining :-p
|
OK, looks like I've identified what I want my wife to buy me for my birthday in a few days.
Heh... 34 and still a geek! Mr Mephisto |
I'm getting it for Christmas. IGN gave it a 10 out of 10. Holy hell...it must be awesome. TechTV showed some parts of the HOUR long deleted scenes and it was amazing. Fellowship of the Ring made much more sense to me after seeing the deleted scenes...I imagine The Two Towers will as well. Not to mention I just finished the game on PS2 which was most excellent. :)

I got it. It's awesome!
|
I voted as not going to buy it....
only because I'm going to get it as a comp from New Line :) |
I'm a slave to that first week discount. I always try and get the movies I want that tfirst week so I can get 5 bucks off. Next week x-men 2 purchased as an early x-mas gift.
|
I'm the same way. If I know I'm going to get a movie, I get it the day it's released if at all possible. I don't know quite why I do it, but I think it probably suckers me into buying a lot of movies I otherwise might not buy too.
|
I really don't see the point in buying any of the LOTR movies yet actually. I figure with the rate they're at that they'll release some monster, 8-disc box set a year or two after the return of the king is out.
|

For the same reasons, I am holding off buying Matrix/Reloaded. I want to get the enevitable super-ultra-extended-revised-20 disc box set. |
Quote:
Logically, there may be a box set that includes the three Extended Editions, but no new material. |
I don't see how you coul add anything to the current sets.I mean if your not satisfied with the current versions you have to be pretty hard to please. Honestly though after getting this and OUTTIW I've watched my once upon a time in the west disc a whole lot more.the extended editions are so extensive I don't have the time yet(in college gearing up for exams) to explore it all.
|
I just bought it today and I watched the first half and I have to say the new scenes didn't add much for me. Although, I think the scenes in the second half will be much better. Awesome movie all around though and it's not like the new scenes ruin the movie, it's just that when I watch it I can see why they cut it. I'll either watch the other half tomorrow or some time later tonight.
|
I still need to get the first one before i get that one. I'm thinking i'll just get them when christmas time comes around.
|
Did anybody notice the scene that they added in of Theodred's (sp?) burial seemed to just end right in the middle? Whats-her-face is just singing along and the bam the scene switches, there's some lame sound of the stone being set in the doorway and then it's the Theoden/Gandalf scene.
Maybe I'm just too picky but that seemed horribly rushed. |
I didn't seem that bad to me... did you want to see a shot of everybody saying goodbye then walking away? I think they probably assumed we would figure out that the funeral was over.
|
I haven't seen the EE yet but i so hope its worth the $$. the fellowship was :D

Personally, I think the added scenes improved the movie quite a bit. |
No chance of seeing me buy it. I don't want to sound immature and impatient, but I don't think I could watch TTT for a fourth time on the cut version, let alone the extended version. I found that it just doesn't seem to go quickly enough after seeing it for the first couple of times. Don't get me wrong - it was amazing, but just doesn't seem like it's worth paying to see four? hours of TTT.... I'll try watching it at a friend's though. Who knows? I might love it...
Oops! I just changed my opinion in a single paragraph. :D |
I watched the rest of TT the other night and I have to say that the extended scenes in the second half were much better. One thing I was curious about is whether or not there was a way to turn off the extended scenes? Because I'm sure there will be a point when I will want to see the film as I saw it in theatres and I dont want to have to buy the single disc version to do so.
|
No, you can't switch versions. There are lots of little things cut into scenes on top of the new stuff. You need the 2-disc set.
|
I just watched it last night. 6.1 DTS is the most amazing thing ever. I couldn't believe it. I really liked the extended scenes. I was happy they went more into Foromir and Boromir (yeah I don't know how they're spelled). Great movie, can't wait for ROFK.
|
Yep ,and its awesome.

Bought it, own both EE but have yet to watch TTT.
|
I watched it the other day.
I loved it but I ahem... never saw it in the cinema so I can't say how much better it is. (Shameful I know but I was kept winding up in countries where I missed it by about a week) The film itself is fantastic , the interactive map is cool and I loved how they show the original location scout for Helm's Deep and Fangorn etc. Havent had much of a chance to see the rest of the documetnaries becasue frankly 4 hours is enough time to be sitting in front of the Idiot box. More Generally how in the name of God did they find Faramir ? He looks so like Sean Bean that it is scary, especially when he is in his riders hood. I kept expecting Frodo and Sam to go "whooooa Dude , we thought you were dead " And Orlando Bloom , my girl loves him to pieces and thinks he is the sexiest thing alive so this is the only place I'll get to say this , btu he's a disappointment. Lines that Viggo can make pathos filled or stirring or whatever just sound wooden coming from him. Real shame becasue Leogolas was one of my favourites from the books. (And that shield surfing scene ? Pur...leease...that was a bit naff). So apart from Faramir finding Boromir what extra did I get ? One other thing. There is more than enough room on a single DVD for the full movie. Why in the name of GOD did they span it accross two disks ? Getting out of the LazyBoy to walk all the way over to the player to switch disks is just too much of a spell breaker. |
Oh Yeah and cant you just hear the Marketeer's rubbing their hands in glee planning the release of the
Lord Of The Rings 3 Movies , Extended Super Duper , 38 Disc , "Real Fan" , Extended Edition Box Set , complete with Wizard Staff and Lembas bread I fully expect to pay $200 to $300 for it and for once I wont mind a bit. |
