well, its 17th Dec everywhere but Australia.
guess Peter Jackson wasnŽt too happy about the Wallabies kicking the All Blacks out of the cup. we have to wait until Boxing Day i think. this SUCKS even more since iŽll be in Japan, and iŽll have to wait til i get back to check it out.

Why do people put up with Peter Jackson's bastardization of such wonderful, noble characters? Anyone can make an effects movie. Tolkien is unique because of his characters. The characters in Peter Jackson's The Two Towers are not Tolkien's. I shudder to think of what character traits he revised in The Return of the King. I will not be seeing it to find out. I will not pay to see The Lord of the Rings turned into a farce by the directing visionary behind Meet the Feebles.

Bloodslick it seems you are well out voted so far - I'm really looking forward to it. I think Jackson has done a great job, and anyway what is so bad about Meet The Feebles - I saw that at the cinema years ago. One of the most orginal films I have seen, and it's a film that stills gets discussed amongst my friends. After all it's not a easy film to forget.

Peter Jackson has brought to life what on one could. I have more respect for his cast and crew than any of anyother movie ever. Try watching some of the extras (4 hours worth) in the fellowship exteneded dvd, the great lengths they went to create every piece of armor, weld every sword, and the new technology they introducted for this movie alone is enough to make this movie stand out. Just because you are bitter cause the books were better, and the movie is not a DIRECT adaptaion, doesnt mean you can enjoy, and appreciate what they have done.

I remain disgusted, despite your protestations that the effects are really cool and the cast is awesome. The effects are really cool. The cast is awesome. What irks me is that the cast aren't playing the characters from the story. Faramir is a fucking travesty. The ents' initial apathy is abhorrent. These are not the noble characters that made the stories great.
I'll stop trying to ruin your fun now. |

You've got a point, but movies created from novels just can't remain entirely true to the original work. They've got to keep the conflict going at all times or the audience gets bored... especially in a three hour movie. Besides, PJ is creating his interpretations of the books, and I still think he's doing a fine job.

Faramir comes off alot better in the extended Two Towers DVD. There is a major added secene that allows that audience to understand him more. I wont spoil it.
In terms of goodness: Extended Two Towers is 5 times better than origional.

I will have to see the faramir scene on the extended- bought it today, but the wife took it to work to watch (works nights at a treatment center w/ not much to do) Faramir was my only problem with Jackson so far, so hopefuly this straightens it somewhat

I was watching discs three and four on the extended edition DVD tonight and there's a pretty long part about why they changed Faramir's character. I think it's on disc three somewhere (although it's about three hours long, so I'm not sure where), but they pretty much confirmed my above post.
