The Day After Tomorrow

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/dayaftertomorrow/

There has been almost no hype around this movie and this is the first time ive heard of it. The premise is that 10,000 years ago there was weather that drastically changed the way of life on our planet and that it's happening again. I was a little taken back by it just because of the final image in the trailer. It made me sit back and say, "Whoa!"

enjoy.

Not even on my radar but it looks very cool.

The premise is sound. What they do plotwise will be all the difference.

phredgreen 11-05-2003 10:27 AM

this movie will be a fun watch until they inject the trite (but seemingly necessary) sappy love story where the heart conquers all.

if they can manage without destroying the plot, then we may have a winner.

The trailer was very interesting but so was the trailer for Godzilla.

General rule regarding trailers: "Even the most dreadful film can be spun into 90 seconds of cinematic gold." -- From Wired mag, nov 03

That being said, trailer for the movie did look pretty cool. Anyone know if there is any hard science behind it?

hiredgun 11-05-2003 01:17 PM

i saw the trailer for that when i saw Revolutions this morning. looks very cool. it's been done before, but there's still something about a realistic portrayal of our world being destroyed that strikes at the heart and makes for a evocative, if trite, film.

I'm wondering if it'll be another Team-USA-saves-the-world movie like Independence Day or Armageddon.

I'm thinking more of Clan of the Cave Bear set in the future. I suspect that none of the promo is part of the movie itself, except for the final scene.

I have but one problem with that film.

Its got the same director as "Independence Day".

I will never see this now.

Not sure I am ready for another Apocolypse movie.
It looked good though...

It's easy to make a good trailer on a apocalypse movie if you ask me. I'll stay tuned for more info about this film but I won't be at the first show for sure.

And yes, from the director of ID4, that is not helping me to run and wait in line for that movie.

I liked the little clip of Mexico closing its borders to US refugees. Good for a laugh :D

My impression wasn't that this sort of thing happened every 10,000 years, but that the movie takes place 10,000 years from now.

anybody else have flashbacks of the 80s movie "the day after" when you heard the name of this movie.

That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the trailer.
I thought it was gonna be good till they said at the end "From the director of Independence Day". Now im thinking it will have some type of cliche comedy or love story in it.

GSRIDER 11-10-2003 02:05 PM

I love these films... cept the sappy triumph of the heart stuff that everyone else has already commented on.

Hrothgar 11-10-2003 09:36 PM

I just hope Ben Affleck doesn't save the world from disaster after playing with animal crackers on Liv Tyler's stomach.

yellowgowild 11-11-2003 07:20 PM

Probably just another special effects laden video game.
