Hehe, great movie. Constant, in your face, disturbation. And when you think it's so bad it cannae get any worse, it just keeps going. DEFINATELY not for everyone, just about one of the most graphically violent and sadistic movies of all time.

I have no interest in seeing Ichi The Killer. Admitedly, I've only seen a couple of Takashi Miike's films, but I am definitely not a fan of his style. But I'll definitely give him respect for his work ethic - he's pumping out four or five films a year right now!

the japaneses are a little f'd in the head with their used underwear vending machines and twin peaks conventions(like we have with star trek here BTW good show but conventions?). is still like some of the things that come out of there and they are a good source for hard to find editions of movies(directors cuts, laserdiscs, etc.)
BTW as far a f'd up movies go it's hard to top Salo. Last edited by mattevil; 10-25-2003 at 02:56 PM.. |

My previous information on this movie was insufficient...I thought it was going to be a modernized version of the old Zato-Ichi movies, with the blind swordsman.
Looks like a good date movie. If you never plan on seeing the girl again.

How does it compare to Tokyo Decadence? Quote:

they do have vending machines for porn and beer on the street though. It's pretty sweet. Ichi the Killer is a fun movie. But also could be very disturbing, depending on your mood. Great characters. |

That was a little disturbing. I wonder how it compares to Irreversible in terms of violent imagery.

Versus was a great movie!
I liked Ichci the killer, though i thought they could have explored the backstory of Ichi and the yakuza girlfriend a bit more. Or even fleshed out the main character's purpose a little more. Like.. whay was he a masochist?, how did he get to know all those weird people, what was the deal with his facial piercing, etc.. The characters in that film were soo interesting they oculd have done much more with it, but they didnt dig deep enough to make you care about anyone, even ichi. |

I loved this movie. I made a review of it in the review a movie thread. Yeah it has cheese in some spots but it's one of the best movies of it's kind. And Versus was Oscar material compared to Full Metal Gokudo. I know FMG wasn't a horror flick but the cheese scared the shit outta me

This is an awesome film. I have it on DVD, the only problem with it is you have to be careful who you watch it around.. It is a bit much in some places. One of Miike's films to really gross people out is Visitor Q. That will really make people squirm.. Then you realize it is a comedy (like all of his films in some way) and you laugh the rest of the movie.

Like Battle Royale, I think the violence is so over-the-top that it actually is less violent than some R-rated Hollywood movies. The CG scene of the guy splitting down the middle was really pretty funny. I thought the most the disgusting part was the semen drenched potted plant.

I just watched Battle Royale for the first time last night, and maybe I am totally jaded, but I didn't find it any more violent or gore filled than any 1980's hollywood action movies. Regardless, I thought it was a great movie.

This movie was absolutely disgusting in so amny different ways.
The body in half would be a little more interesting if it did not look so fake, along with the blood squirting out of the girl's body like you just puntured a pressurized can of aerosol. The torture scene just made me cringe, along with his self mutilation of his tongue. Crazy masochists.

If seeing a guy slice off his tongue with a sword very closeup and have a guy hanging from the ceiling by hooks in his skin while someone else takes a long sharp needle and sticks it in various places in the guys mouth then procedes to pour boiling hot oil onto the guys bare back and watch a guy get chopped in half is your thing; go see this movie.

ok, so you didnt like it because of he voilence, no need to shitcan the movie. All of miike's movies are like this, it's a genre just like our slasher movies here.. it's not "more sick" because it's japanese.. I hate when people start in on this "them japs are crazy" kinf of talk. Thats very ignorant in my opinion. Anywho.. Ultimately.. you should know what you are getting into before you see any foreign movie, becasue..
1) it's foreign and you proally dont speak the language. 2) It's from another culture so cut the movie some slack. 2) If you are seeing it on DVD or VHS then it's proally a few years old and the reviews for anything are already online. Last edited by Ganguro; 12-25-2003 at 11:44 PM.. |

I actually enjoyed the movie Ganguro; just those seems made me cringe and I am not one to cringe upon seeing movie violence. The CG of the body in half was humorous, though, along with slicing the girl's neck.

Hey, I loved the movie, mainly because those japanese are crazy. Again, I might be a sick puppy, but I thought the ending on the roof was hilarious, after ichi gets shot and Kakihara was begging him to get up and fight. I could have done with a little less semen, though.
