The Green Mile 9/10
Long movie, wasn't expecting it to be so long, but the characters were genuinely so interesting I wanted to see more of them. Very touching movie, great follow up for Frank Darabont who also did the screenplay for The Shawshank Redemption.

Juno 9/10
we really enjoyed this movie. it was funnier than i thought it was going to be. the story was good and the characters were mostly believable. Juno seemed a bit too wise for her age and came across as older than some of the adults. this morning we happened to watch the Letterman show when Ellen Page was a guest. (love my DVR) she was basically being herself in that movie. either that or she was still in character... |

The Heartbreak Kid - 9/10
Ben Stiller was absolutely hilarious, one of his better performances imo. Superbad - 8/10 Definitely reminded me a bit about high school and the difficulty of trying to get booze for a party. McLovin ftw.

Persepolis -- 8/10, outstanding animated (French) film about an Iranian girl growing up before/after 1979 in Iran, and her experience living abroad in Europe. It's really not a kids' movie, but translates well if you want to bring kids along.

7/10 Cloverfield
it was a bit short, but if you like Japanese suitmation monster movies (Kaiju: Godzilla, Ultraman, Gamera) it is entertaining. The handheld camera is a bit disorienting at times, and reminded me of Blair Witch more than anything. Cloverfield (I'm assuming that's the name of the monster) is rather cool looking. Of course for some it's about the disaster of seeing NYC in total shambles, that was worth it for some. It was a good time. Oddly enough the screening I went to the theater held like 400+ and there was only about 30 people. It was raining and cold, but still, not many people at all.

3:10 to Yuma--7/10
I thought the performances in the movie were fab, but the ending threw me and I thought it was pretty lame. I found it hard to believe that a hardened killer could suddenly feel empathy for anyone. Still worth seeing just for the action and acting. Zodiac--7/10 I rented it because the critics have just gone on and on about this one. It was good as far as murder mysteries go. I've been seeing this trend though, where Hollywood seems to deem a movie important if it goes on for more than 90 minutes. You know people, there's something to be said for good editing. I would've liked it better if it was tighter. Worth renting.

Sunshine 7/10
I like Danny Boyle's films. Trainspotting and 28 Days Later are both excellent movies. Sunshine doesn't spend an hour of the movie introducing the characters and trying to explain the whys and hows of the crisis and it's not needed. The characters are easy enough to understand and don't need a hit Aerosmith song to help you connect with them. I felt there was a real sense of peril and urgency in the film. The characters know how important their mission is and they show it. The last bit took a small turn which wasn't horrible but felt like it lost a bit of the first half's build up. I really wish it had went more toward a psychological thriller ending but instead went with more of an action film kind of ending.

Hitman 9/10
Based upon the game series, it is nine out of ten different kinds of awesome. Kick ass action scenes, a girl with a nice ass, and cool cars (though obviously product placement). Only let down by the fact i didn't think the main character looked old enough (although the actor that plays him is about the right age) and the afore mentioned product placement. A very refreshing movie, just enough blood to make things real, but doesn't go over the top with special effects. Must see!

The Core 6/10
Good actors, parts were exciting despite poor special effects, gaping holes in story. Could have been great. Juno 9/10 Wonderful, quirky characters and a great script make this teen pregnancy into a film worth watching.

No Country for Old Men 7/10
I have read posts that called this "the perfect film". I do not agree, I thought Fargo was a far better Cohen brothers pic, if I had to choose. Its definitely not a film I want to see again.

I Am Legend 7/10. Great action but not enough story line. Basically 2 hours of watching a guy try and save a city not really worth saving. No offense to NY'ers but, honestly, if the city became diseased, I'm out of there, I am not gonna stick around to find out what's going to happen next. Especially when I'm all alone. Screw that, I'd go crazy.
Spiderman 3 9/10. Excellent story line, loved the action and the camera movements. It's a great movie. Evan Almighty 7/10. Its a very funny movie. I'm not really into the whole "let's let God come to Earth in human form and screw a guys successful life completely up" but when taken with a grain of salt, I laughed my ass off.

Bubble 5/10 or 8/10 meh...
I rented this movie because it was filmed in the area I grew up and used local people. It was directed by Steven Soderbergh (Oceans trilogy). It was not a great movie, but I enjoyed it in a strange way. Since I grew up in this 'bubble' town, I felt he captured it perfectly. He didn't have to try too hard since the people were being themselves. It was interesting to see what type of life I escaped. The Lady in the Window 9/10 I love old black and white movies. This one didn't disappoint. An intriguing story of murder, secret affairs, and blackmail. Definitely Fritz Lang at his best. A good movie for a lazy afternoon.

Bully
RIP Brad Renfro. You were a great actor dude. Only 6 days older me... This movie is fucked up even for my standards. Nick Stahl plays a great bully and Renfro being the whipped friend of the bully - he's the only one you can really like and/or feel sorry for out of the bunch. There's some very interesting characters. Michael Pitt as Donny is on an acid trip 24/7 and reminded me of a role a younger Leonardo DiCaprio would play. The movie kinda makes me mad and sad and that makes it hard for me to give it a rating.

Couldn't watch it to the end because it was too boring. You wait for about 55 minutes for it to get cool. When it gets cool, it's FUCKING RAD. Then it sorta drifts for another 30 min and by that time you've had enough and you don't wanna last the last half hour. From this movie, it is clear that the Japanese are in bed with the Deus Ex Machina. Amazing graphics and "live action anime" feel, but it was wasted on a story board that would make David Lynch scratch his head. With that said, Sada Mayumi is HOT and needed to stay alive longer.

Rambo. Story line was okay but very basic. But then, Rambo movies usually are. The violence was more graphic than his earlier movies. I did like Rambo's personal growth. 7/10 entertainment, but you might have to close your eyes and ears often.

Cloverfield
I really enjoyed this movie! It's refreshing to see something different than always the hero and the army in these kind of movies. Plus the feel of 1 camera and 1 point of view for the whole movie was awesome!! Some parts were left unanswered and that was a bit dissapointing. But for the most part, it worked. Acting was OK and in some parts, good enough. But I would have liked a bit better actors like the dude holding the camera? he's a complete idiot and then he's doing cinematographic shots with a camera he's never held before. If you're gonna see it, i highly recommend catching it while it's still in the cinemas. you'll get the real feel that way. My official rating: 7.5/10

There Will Be Blood
A perfect film This ties at #3 in the movies I've seen in the past year. I knew nothing about it when I went in, and I was not dissappointed. It's been a long time since I've seen such a strong film about family. Daniel Day-Lewis was absolutely brilliant.

The Game Plan - Meh, 6/10. Only rented it because the GF wanted to see it, I admit there were some funny parts and I think The Rock is a pretty good actor.
The Simpsons Movie - 9/10. Laughed my ass off throughout most of the movie, never really watched the series on TV though.

Hard Candy
http://www.hardcandymovie.com/ This movie has a small cast of actors and doesn’t offer a whole lot of change in scenery. However, this is probably one of the most intense psycho thriller movies that I’ve seen in a really long time. I found myself completely engrossed in the film and watched it several times finding little things I'd missed the first few times. It's “about a girl of 14 years old (more than excellent Ellen Page) and a 32 years old guy about pedophilia and about how a pedophile must feel. Or maybe it is only a history of vengeance. You won't know until the end of the film. It sure is a difficult subject for a movie, but the script is excellently profiled in the psychological horror and does not turn to be obscene or anything than can visually or verbally hurt the sensibility of anyone. It is more like disturbing to hear a teenage girl speak how she does, and it is fascinating how your feelings will go from one character to the other during the movie until you realize that no matter what the end is, everyone is guilty of something and it is not to us, humans, to decide what bad actions can be justified by other bad actions.” (www.indb.com) This is a GREAT movie. I highly recommend it!
