Superman Returns: LOVED IT. I thought Routh and Spacey did a fantastic job, the story was fine, the spoiler was surprising. The only quibble I have with it is Kate Bosworth...she lacked the spunk of the original Lois and there was no chemistry between her and Superman at all...she was just there the entire movie. 4.5/5
Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Meh. To paraphrase a review I heard on the radio...there were moments of cinematic bliss, but more moments of cinematic blah. The best part is the last minute of the movie, and you have to sit through 20 minutes of "Isn't this movie OVER yet" to get to that minute. I'm sure I'll go see the third one though. 2.5/5

Ultimate Avengers:The Movie 5/10
They really pulled a lot of the punches from Ultimates (Henry Pym is just mean to his wife, not abusive, the Hulk doesn't eat anyone, etc). Animation quality was also disappointing. Voice acting was fine, though. I hope they take some more chances with the second one.

Superman Returns
This was good, it was fun and I enjoyed it. But while watching I just couldn't help remembering how excited I was when the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie came out. There was so much build-up and anticipation. It was SUPERMAN!!! I miss that with movies today. It's just not the same.

You don't even have to like driving to enjoy this. Everything, from storyline to animated details, is perfect. And, should you happen to like racing, NASCAR, etc., this movie's cameo's and quick jokes will have you hysterical. 10/10, 5 *****, etc.

Okay first off this movie... it aint for everyone. The humor is much dirtier than most of Kevin Smith's movies and I loved it. Plot? Oh god I could see where it was going within a few minutes of the movie. Who cares. I was fucking laughing my ass off the entire movie. Is it as good as Clerks? No. But that's okay. BTW stick around during the credits to see who Kevin Smith thanks... and there is a lot of them, and they are damn funny. 4/5

My Super Ex Girlfriend - 85%
A great movie to take your longtime SO to, although probably not so much for a first date. If you've ever had a crazy ex, then you'll love this. Clerks 2 - 95% Funny, funny & funny. If you like Smith's movies, this is a must see. If you do not, don't bother, this won't convert you, it'll only drive you farther away. Spoiler: Beware the Silence of the Lambs bit forewarning you of what is to come. Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest - 70% A good movie, but not as good as the first. It definitly gets an A+ for style, however. Last edited by Coppertop; 07-30-2006 at 08:01 AM.. Reason: added an s |

Brick... Indie film, I think. Fairly good, somewhat predictable but Lucas Haas is one creepy dude. Interesting plot twists. Drugs, violence, high school drama and gangs... with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lucas Haas. Funny combination. I liked it, though. 7/10 for some of the parts that were completely unrealistic for high schoolers.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift... First, I was looking for entertainment and won't comment on the plot, which was very predictable and classic Asian themed. Annoying Southern boy challenges Yakuza nephew over a girl and bragging rights. But the driving was awesome and the special effects were realistic most of the time. Which is difficult in a movie with people hauling tail on the road all the time. 8/10... lost points because of the flipping obnoxious fake Southern accent. Pirates 2 It was entertaining and the special effects were great. Yes, it was too long, but tolerable, unlike say... Alexander. Anyone else recognize the sea monster from the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride at Disney World? Kracken was almost identical to the art on the walls as you waited in line for the ride. It used to be my favorite ride before they replaced it with Ariel's Photo-riffic Water Playground. I also appreciate the way that the movies continue to recreate scenes from the ride at Disney... I laughed every time they showed Tortuga. The dog, the pigs, and the prostitutes running in circles. Classic. 8/10 The Devil Wears Prada Definite disappointment. I loved the book and how sarcastic the tone was throughout. Miranda was pure evil in the novel. In the movie, she was Cruella de Ville. Bland. 5/10 Hitman I love Jet Li. He always ends up playing the innocent that doesn't want to hurt anyone, but kicks serious ass anyway. Loved the clean fighting. 7/10 Candy Weird Australian movie about heroin. Heath Ledger is strangely convincing as a junkie. Realistic depiction. 7/10 Lots of other Jet Li's including Legend of the Red Dragon (loved the kid, funky costumes, great exhibition of skills--8/10), Swordsman II (again, great skills, traditional storyline--7/10), and The Evil Cult (truly bizarre but entertaining--8/10). Okay. Done for now. I've been laid up with an arm injury. Nothing else to do.

Pirates 2 -- 7/10
Wasn't as bad as I was lead to believe, but I did get bored with about half an hour to go. Could have used less filler and foolish humor. Sexual innuendo was in full effect. Doom -- 5/10 Also not nearly as bad as I'd heard. Actually quite tolerable until the FPS sequence and the end boss fight. Given the thin source material(solo Marine against the hordes of Hell, three times), an effective translation to popular media.

I'm a guy, so I think that changes my perception of the movie. So 'ill try and not be too harsh. Overall I though it was boring and not too funny. (and come on, who blows up a huge gas container truck in the desert where anyone can see the smoke from miles away when they're on the run?) 6/10 |

5/10. The humor was great. Dante was a terrible character portrayed by a terrible actor. The love themes were soooooooooo lame. The philosophy offered is just idiotic. It's like the worst possible drama film combined a great comedy and out comes a waste of my money and time. +1 for the hotness and wonderful acting of Rosario Dawson. so...6/10 Superman Returns I had no idea he could lift stuff? I mean at first I wasn't sure, but after the fifth object I was like, wow! He sure can lift stuff. Kevin Spacy was great. Infact I wish they just made this: Lex Luther Returns. That would have been 10/10. Instead SuperChump...gets 7/10...it was entertaining, good directing, lame script. Scaner Darkly. First off - I really liked Waking Life. The adds also made it seem rather futuristic and Matrix-ish. Well it's no Waking Life and not much of a Sci-Fi which adds up to a movie about druggies. I recomend watching Spun instead. 5/10 Last edited by Mantus; 07-24-2006 at 09:56 PM.. |

Not a movie to take your prudish parents to, but I thought it was hilarious. There's one scene with a shark that's jumping around biting for the main guy's crotch and I was in hysterics it was so funny. I'd recommend it, and if you don't want to pay to see a movie at least rent it later. I'm going to own it one day. I thought it was awesome.

I gotta give it a 10! I did not expect the move to be as funny as it was. I laughed the whole time. The plot? it was OK, I mean what do you expect from a low budget comedy that takes place in one location. Its like a porno, the plots arent really supposed the thrill/captivate you. But did i meantion how funny it was??? It was by far his funniest movie out of all of them. And I have them all on DVD, so needless to say I was impressed. I also give an extra kudos to have Rosario Dawson on there... that chick is FINE!!!!! man, every movie she is in she gets better and better. a must see. |

Watch the credits until the very end..... I got tired. The costumes, makeup and special effects were great. I was looking for more storyline. Oh well. Nevertheless, the surprise after the credits was worth it.

I usually don't think movies are funny, and dirty comedy doesn't appeal to me more than any other kind of comedy, but I actually laughed out loud during this movie, and had a grin on my face the rest of the time. I liked the plot, too. It has good characters who actually have character. Even if it hadn't been funny I still would have liked it. 10/10 There are better movies, but it still gets a 10. |

Saving Face *** out of ****
Wil is a young surgeon whose mother disapproves of her and her relationship with a ballet dancer because it violates her sense of propriety in the insulated Chinese American culture in which they live. Things are turned on their heads when mother turns up pregnant outside of marriage, won't say who the father is, and moves in with Wil. It hits all the standard romance cliches, the partner who works too often, disapproving parents, conflicting careers, choosing between a big promotion and love, but it hits them all well, and the acctresses are all quite convincing in their parts. There's a very nice touch near the end that I'd never seen before. Wil discovers a letter written to her mother by the baby's father and begins reading it in voiceover. About halfway through, she hits on a clue that tells her who the man is, and from that point it's his voice we hear rading the letter, and even that is used to nice effect a few minutes later. I love it when a filmmaker finds a new way to present one of the old conventions. Gilda |

Some would argue that it was light on plot, with more action than the first. Slightly true, but once again, they introduced characters that were interesting and had unique personalities.I also really enjoyed the twist to classic lore from the time period. Davy Jones was awesome. |

Pirates of the Caribbean 2: 4/10
If you are a big fan of Disney-style horror, you should rent this eventually. Do not expect a good action movie. I like the characters in the first one and I cared what happened to them. Not here. Even favorite characters in the first where vague, wandering, and unlikable in the second. I enjoyed the action in the first one. Not in the second. Contrary to popular opinion, the action sequences seemed much more engaging, dramatic, and entertaining in the first movie as compared to the second. Romance and humor made no appearance in the sequel, unlike the original. The undead were annoying in the sequel whereas they were pretty cool in the first Pirates. As a commited action movie fan, I wish I had not gone to the theatre to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2. |

We just got home from Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (or whatever it's called), and I loved it. It was hilarious, if a little stereotypical. This makes up for Ron Burgundy and that stupid soccer movie that Will Ferrell did last year. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are both funny as hell the whole time, and it's probably the second best movie I've seen this summer. 4/5

I saw it last week, but I still can't get it out of my head. Miami Vice is one of the best things Michael Mann has ever done, and I loved Last of the Mochicans, Colateral, Heat, and pretty much everything he's ever done. While I dispise Colin Ferrel (a.k.a. Alexander the Gay) with every fiber of my being, I think that he was somehow perfect for his role. The thing that stood out the most was the lack of acting...and how refreshing it was. I'm really getting sick of overdramatic actors and actresses bullshitting their way through fantasies...and being commended for their acting ability. Miami Vice was intended to be a gritty avdenture, and it delivered on every level. Jamie Foxx gave another surprising performance. Having seen the Jamie Foxx show and Ray, I'm familiar with his best and worst. This was among his best. Yes, he was funny, but it was subdued. It never overshadowed what was going on. I believed that the movie could really happen.
My only gripe is the lack of Edward James Olmos. Every movie should have Edward James Olmos. 9/10 Then on to Taledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby...this was funny as hell, but dumb as hell, too. Will Ferrel is a very talented comedian, but I feel like this movie was too deliberate. Maybe I was expecting too much. Spoiler: The knife in the leg scene was among the funniest things eve on screen, but it still wasn't on par with other screwball comedies like Austin Powers or Monty Python and the Holy Grail. All-in-all, a great way to wate a few hours laughing at harmless comedy, but it doesn't live up to Ferrel's ability. 6.8/10 |

Shesus and I went to see "The Descent" yesterday. I have to admit that I was ready to despise this movie from the trailers I saw a few months back but I ended up rather liking it.
The advertisemtnt for this movie compares it to Alien. I believe the comparison is made from the sense of isolation present in both films. What I liked about Descent is the presence of some very real suspense long before the horror story begins. I'll give this one 8/10. There were some elements that could have been improved and there were a couple of horror movie cliches used that weren't necessary, but aside from that it was a very enjoyable film.

I liked this movie alot more than I expected to. I didn't want to see it, and I expected it to be some sort of cheesy action flick with big egos, a hollywood plot, and just alot of cheese. It ended up being a low key atmospheric type of movie. While the events may or may not be realistic, they were portrayed in a realsitic manner. It seemed like the events were 'just filmed' and not fabricated for an audience, like we were just peeking into real things going on in a more dramatic universe. 8/10 |

This last week while on vacation I saw two movies. You Me and Dupree with my mother, and Lady in the Water with my sister.
You Me and Dupree This defiantly was not my first choice at the theater, but my moms and I needed to find some common ground. Had some good laughs in it, but overwhelmingly funny. Typical Owen Wilson comedy. I was very surprised that the ending was good, and that is why I give it 3/5 Lady in the Water I'm a Big M. Night Shammy fan, so this was a no brainer. I saw that the critics gave it "C" and "D" grades, but those guys are a bunch of douchebags so I wasn't worried. I really liked it, it dragged slightly, but overall great movie. I would put it in the middle of the pack, when it comes to his films. 4/5

We just rented V for Vendetta and 16 Blocks.
V for Vendetta was awesome. I loved it and it captured my attention from the get-go. Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, and the guy who played the detective were all superb. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it yet. 4.5/5 16 Blocks - lame. Stupid story, terrible acting (Bruce Willis acted like he was bored the entire time), all around lame. In fact, I didn't even finish it...I only watched 2/3 of it, hoping it would get better. It never did. Great movie if you don't have a root canal or something similarly entertaining already planned. 0.5/5, and the only reason for the half star is Mos Def's acting...his voice was so annoying I wanted to slap him, but his acting was half decent.

Not quite as Epic as the internet made it out to be, but still wholly entertaining and had some of the best one-liners from a movie I'd seen in a while. Plus it had a happy ending, and the characters were actually dynamic and learned how to be better people after their ordeal, so that made me happy.

this movie started out just like i thought but after they get into the story, it slows down to a crawl for a bit. i found that there was too much romance in this movie. but the few action scenes that were here were really great and realistic. this wasnt better than collateral but close. i have never seen the 80s show on tv so i cannot compare. what most critic said was false. 8.5/10 Accepted i just saw accepted this weekend. for a teencomedy, this was really good! i liked the concept and the jokes were original. i wouldnt recommend paying for it at the movies but a definite rental. 7/10
