Shelob/Frodo Approximate Size Comparison

Linky

This is pretty kool, kinda gives you an idea of what to expect for the movie. Can't wait for 12/17/03.

That's pretty damn scary, I never imagined her to be that large whilst reading the novel.

Funny, I always assumed she was pretty huge.

Didn't Frodo kill her by stabbing into her belly when she was towering above her? It's been years since I read the books.

No, Frodo did not.

Samwise was the one who stabbed her in the guts with Sting as she tried to play the part of the crushing ceiling on him.

But Shelob did not die from her wounds, she only retreated to her fowl layer to heal over the long years and presumably terrorise new victims in the Fourth Age of Middle Earth. (So we are told by JRR)

Indeed, the indexes are fantastic reading, incredibly sad reading about the deaths/passings of all the major characters post ROTK.

Being mildly arachnophobic, that portion of the book (and, hence, its accompanying movie portion) are horrifying to me.

After the way The Two Towers was bungled, I'm not particularly looking forward to ROTK. Peter Jackson is such a typical Hollywood bastard.

I'm baaaaack!

I saw a peek of her in the trailer, and she did not look that big to scale.

Yeah, I agree that I am a little weary of what they might leave out. I am really hoping to see the scouring of the shire more than anything, but I have a bad feeling that that got the axe.

You're not the only one who feels like this. I was REALLY wanting to believe that Jackson would stick to the books as much as possible. I don't want to turn this thread into a flame Jackson area, so I'll just stop now.

archer2371, thanks for sharing that picture. I killed a spider about that size in my back yard two days ago. The crazy thing nearly took my arm off.

You've got to be kidding me, right?

BUNGLED?

The guy has done a better job than anyone would have expected. Of course there are some changes. There would have to be.

Don't tell me, for example, either of you two are the types that wanted a big fat Tom Bombadil jumping around and singing in the first movie?!

I would've loved to have seen Bombadil or a proper depiction of Helm's Deep but the films as they stand are fantastic representations of the novels.

BTW RotK comes out on the 10th in New Zealand, hahahaha!

I personally would've loved to have seen a movie made about The Hobbit first since it is the prequel to the whole trilogy and it's a great story too. I love when they were interviewing Ian McKellen about the movies and they asked him "So what can we expect to see in the new movie?" and he replied by saying

Well....you could read the books
ahaha I died right about there. Stupid bitch hahaha. Good times.

As I said in another thread, I am extremely disappointed in this. I could live without Tom Bombadil, but the Scouring of the Shire I think was way too important to leave out.

I really hope they don't cut too much of the scouring of the Shire. It's an important part of most epic tales. (Odysseus, his wife, his bow, and his dog?)
