Hey, I'm getting kind of bored so does anyone know of any really good "end of the world" type books with viruses or armegedoen (sp) something like that? Or maybe just any adventurous type books like "Timeline" by Micheal Criton or something?

End of the world:
The Stand, by King. Amazing. No one does apocalypse better.

Adventurous:
Ken Follet has some solid war books. Clancy's Without Remorse and Rainbow Six are both good.

The Lion's Game by Nelson DeMille is an awesome book. Terrorists and political assinations. Hot ass FBI agent and Salty old NYC cop chasing down a shadow.

A real page turner...

The White Plague (Frank Herbert) is a good man-made virus.

Good Omens (Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett) is probably the funniest book on the apocalypse ever written.

I really dont read, But one time i read Geralds Game by stephen king, i know its not what you wanted, but it was wicked gory.

"Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. The end of the world has never been funnier.

ah.. end of the world, hm? I agree with pancakerabbit - American Gods is good, though that's not really Armageddon, closer to Ragnarok. mm.. I think Bradbury did some good stuff - short stories, mostly. Try reading The Illustrated Man, or mebbe I Sing The Body Electric! or mebbe Death is a Lonely Business.

A little off topic.. I just read a Nelson Demille book while I was on vacation in Mexico. It was called "Up Country" and it's the follow up to the book/movie "The General's Daughter". I never heard of this guy, but I couldn't put the book down! Great book!

I didn't think Good Omens reached its potential - both authors are excellent but I think they work better alone.

Wasn't Andromeda Strain by Crichton as well?

Dead Morn by Piers Anthony sort of is end of the world--sort of like a "what if" book centered on the Cuban Missile Chrisis.

Andromida Strain was back when Crichton could still write books. Now he just writes movie scripts in book form.

Thought of another one, if you like black humor/mystical realism: "This is the Way the World Ends", by James Morrow (although "Towing Jehovah", was better - God dies, his body falls into the ocean, and a captain is tasked with towing the body to the Arctic).

If you are looking for an 'end of things as we know it' and a well done action book all in one try 'Lucifer's Hammer'.
The scientific description of a comet as a giant hot fudge sundae is a great.

Redravin, I was just coming back to also suggest Lucifer's Hammer. But since you got here first, I'll add in "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut.
