Matchstick Men

I saw Matchstick Men today. It was a good movie. Well done.

Nicholas Cage's performance as an obsessive compulsive is, in my book, award winning. He brings the character to life through his physical acting in places where the script development dragged. The young actress playing the street smart daughter in the film also did an absolutely tremendous job - especially for a teenager. The cinematography was amazing, and it was truly fun to watch. The plot was relaxed, but twisting. Hang on for the end. Although the relaxed plot almost worked for the film's entirety, it did have its slow parts where I was forced to lean back in my chair and use my hand as a headrest.

Bottom Line: B+, put down your cigarette and get to your local theater.

I know this is a very old thread, but I just saw this movie today, and I must say... great movie.

I agree with everything EeOh1 said, and I thought I would point something out, even though you're probably never going to read it again because you seem to have left the boards.

On to the point, the actress that played Angela was 23 at the time of filming. I almost jumped up in joy when I heard this, because I felt really guilty thinking she was so hot, lol.

I'll second that. Matchstick Men is a fantastic movie, I felt so sorry for Cage near the end (won't give any spoilers). It's great to see Ridley Scott handling much more tame productions.

Yeah, I too felt sorry for him.

Spoiler: I was fine with the fact that Frank got away with the money, and I was fine that he got all of his money taken, but the fact that he had his heart played with, I felt really bad. I was really starting to get a good feeling for their relationship, and then it was all a lie. A good one though. :)

I loved this movie. It is so clever and sharp, and Cage seriously gives the best performance yet, in my opinion. The contrast between the two protaganists is such a contrast, and the girl is a complete spanner in the works. And the twist! I loved it! Plus....it is beautifully photographed as well.

Great movie all around. Great twists in the movie, and some good cons.

A good flick to be sure.

I can't remember for sure and I'm too lazy to double check it now, so it's up to you to look for yourself, BUT the actress that played a teenager is actually in her early/mid-20s! Sure fooled me!

Did you read any of the other posts in this thread? ;)

Saw it a long time ago. I agree, it was great and Cage picked it up when the script dragged. The movie was, I'd say, a B.

As a person who's mind never shuts off, this movie left me surprised, which was an awesome feeling in itself. It reminded me of real life, in that things are not always going to go perfectly, but that good can come out of any bad, sometimes it just takes a little longer to shine through.

Yea, I just saw this as well. Awesome movie.

I have had this on dvd for months now but never got round to watching it. Looks like today i will eh.

I thought it was a well acted movie but my friend predicted the plot easily. I swear he looked at the box that was partially covered by my hand and predicted the movie exactly. Completely ruined the movie for me.
