Favorite Actor or Actress

Who is your favorite actor or actress?

It's pretty hard to decide i'm sure. But if you had to choose, who would you say is your favorite.

I'm going to say Edward Norton here. All of the films that i have seen him in i have liked and that is including Death to Smoochy. He seems to be able to play a variety of different characters and he plays them very well.

Hrothgar 09-11-2003 08:23 PM

I have none. I like roles that are good. I've seen blockbusters with "famous" actors that have left me indifferent and I've seen movies with not so "famous" actors that have lifted my spirit or made me cry. I'm not into Idol worship.

Speed_Gibson 09-11-2003 09:36 PM

living - no one comes to mind
past:
talkies - (M) Cary Grant and (F) Bette Davis
silent - M) hard call between Buster Keaton/Charlie Chaplin and F) Lillian Gish

Fremen 09-11-2003 11:29 PM

Fred Ward- since you're twisting my arm.
I think he's underated, too.

Xiangsu 09-12-2003 01:58 AM

I'll say Kevin Spacey even though its more like a tie between him and Edward Norton.

JohnnyRock 09-12-2003 06:16 AM

Cary Grant for male and women...I just go by how hot they are so I have no idea who can act or not....

frankx 09-12-2003 06:01 PM

Top five actors:
Robert DeNiro
Morgan Freeman
Anthony Hopkins
Ian McKellen
Al Pacino

Top five actresses:
Julianne Moore

  • Johnny Depp

In no particular order.

rainheart 09-12-2003 08:47 PM

Chalk up another for Ed Norton.

Locke 09-12-2003 09:39 PM

actor- either ed norton or john cusack
actress- julianne moore

lafemmefatale 09-12-2003 10:53 PM

ed norton [mr. popular it seems, well deserved though]
david hyde pierce
roy dupuis

Tons of worthy actors but these stand out also from their characters as well as their acting ability. I have yet to like an actress for their acting rather than their looks/image so it's not really mention worthy.

bundy 09-13-2003 12:47 AM

Gerard Depardieu
Judi Dench
Maggie Smith
Virginie Ledoyen
Renee Zellweger
Johnny Depp
Gregory Peck
Robert Duvall
Jodie Foster
Ralph Fiennes

Xiangsu 09-13-2003 12:58 AM

Honorable mention Tom Hanks

m2k 09-13-2003 01:53 AM

Samuel L. Jackson
Tom Hanks

Hmmm... This is a tough question, because there are so many great actors and actresses - each with their own quality that sets them apart. It's kind of like my top ten movies list, that contains well over 200 movies! :D

Off the top of my head though, a few of my favorites are:

Errol Flynn
Lon Chaney Jr.
Audrey Hepburn
Steve McQueen
Alec Guiness
George C. Scott
Cary Grant
Marlon Brando
Toshiro Mifune
Gerard Depardieu
Spencer Tracy
Jack Nicholson
Meryl Streep
Gregory Peck
Paul Newman
Jurgen Prochnow
Bill Murray (way under-rated)
Humphrey Bogart
Gene Tierney
Al Pacino
Robert DeNiro

For recent stars (last fifteen years or so) that really impress me, and will someday be in my "favorites" list:

Johnny Depp
Ed Norton
Brad Pitt
Benicio Del Toro
Pruitt Taylor Vince (he needs to get a bit more choosy in his roles though)
Tim Roth

Wow, I could go on forever! :D I know I'm missing alot that I'll kick myself for later, but for brevity sake I'll stop here. :)

Don't even get me started on worst, or most over-rated actor/actresses! *cough*KevinCostner*cough*

BuddyHawks 09-13-2003 08:11 AM

Johnny Depp

h2ogo69 09-13-2003 08:40 AM

Arragh No, No, No (just in case you don't get the message, I really don't like him)
I don't really have a fav actor, but I do like Steve Buscemi as he proves you don't have to be good looking to get good roles.

Mr.Deflok 09-13-2003 02:34 PM

Johnny Depp
Brad Pitt
Toshiro Mifune
David Bowie
Sean William Scott.. haha just kidding!
Arnold Schwarzenegger (not for his acting skills but for his on-screen presence)

I don't have a favourite actress because I've never been blown away by a female performance (mainly to do with the fact that they don't get many big roles).

DownwardSpiral 09-13-2003 06:51 PM

Kevin Spacey, Johnny Depp and Edward Norton.

BigGov 09-13-2003 07:20 PM

Denzel Washington

Does almost everything, does it well, and does it well everytime. I have never seen a bad Denzel movie, and I've seen him carry a few.

Samuel L. Jackson second.

He made 187, no one else could have played that role. Jules is one of the best characters in movie history.

Third it starts getting a little blurred, but I'll go with Pacino because he can play a variety of roles, a coach in Any Given Sunday or Tony Montana, always does great.

Honorable Mentions:
John Travolta (Battlefield Earth knocked him off the top 3)
Tom Hanks (His role in Saving Private Ryan you can't picture anyone else doing)
Robert DeNiro (Taxi Driver, what else needs to be said?)
Anthony Hopkins (Hello Clarice)
Mel Gibson (FREEDOM!)
Jackie Chan (especially his older stuff)
Jodie Foster (Clarice #1)
Julianne Moore Clarice #2)
Ed Norton (I've never seen anyone else kick their own ass)

t3m3st 09-13-2003 09:31 PM

Seanathan03 09-18-2003 05:03 PM

Christopher Walken

Jadey 09-18-2003 10:19 PM

Wow, I'd hate to seem unoriginal, but here goes:

Johnny Depp (always in great roles)
Brad Pitt (I love when he plays a wacko)
John Cusack (In some of my fav movies)
Steve Buscemi
Ed Norton
Tim Roth
Samuel Jackson

Actresses? Can't think of any that would stand out to me.

EeOh1 09-18-2003 10:22 PM

I have a lot of favorite actors. But I agree, Spacemonkey, Edward Norton is awesome. He's an amazing actor who does play a variety of roles very well.

He's underrated though, if you ask me. Why don't we see his dating life on the front of Star magazine? WHY!?
