Clive Clussler's Dirk Pitt Novels
Anyone read these books?
A coworker gave me a few of the Dirk Pitt Novels to read but they don't seem to be in any order. Althought the books seem to refer to earlier books that i havent read yet. I am wondering if anyone out there has a list of the books in the order they should be read or where published. I have looked on google but most of the sites that came up where just places to buy them, Also any opinions on these books. I have read Shock Wave and Flood Tide so far and am now reading Valhela rising (SP) and and finding them quite enjoyable and easy reads even at 500+ pages. DB |
I've read many of the Dirk Pitt novels, if not all of them by now.
They're fun. Cheesy oftentimes, and they're all somewhat alike, but fun. They're decent page turners, their plots can be interesting and out there in true James Bond fashions, and the main characters are well developed and entertaining. Hardly excellent books but they still make for a great read when bored IMO. |
Clive Cussler is one of my favorite authors.

heh.. dirk and i have been buds for a while now... i pulled raise the titanic out of my grandpa's paperback library and ripped through it, then jumped into the rest of the ones he's read. it's definitely not the most profound literature out there, but they are definitely fun reads.
have a look at his kirt austin novels, if you'd like to... they're just as fun. |
I really enjoy the Dirk Pitt books as well. They are like brain candy!

:) i've enjoyed the ones that I've read...

The transition to Kurt Austin rather annoys me.
He's in many ways a carbon copy of Dirk Pitt, but I can't help but like Pitt a lot more, the same for their respective 'sidekicks'. |
He has some interesting story concepts, but awfully shallow development. As someone above said, an easy read.

Like everyone has said it's just fun reads nothing really thought stimulating. I've read all fo them except for pacific vortex and deep six, I'm also kind of annoyed with the kurt austin novels although it's cool when he interacts with dirk.

I generally agree with most of the above opinions, although I have found the last couple books a little lacking, everything just always works out too well. And I really didn't care for the twist at the end of Valhalla Rising, talk about conveniently setting up for the future...
