It's real. I guess it happened at the VMA's last night. I didn't watch. I hate MTV. I only know because I just saw a news article about it. I'll start to care when they start to eat each others twats!

I watched it and when the kiss happened, my jaw dropped. It was totally unexpected and *TOTALLY HOT*. Apparently Madonna kissed Christina Aguilera right afterwards, but we missed it because the camera went straight to Justin Timberlake watching in the audience (I understand why they did it, but how stupid is that, we missed out on a second kiss).

If you missed the awards, don't worry, I have a good feeling they'll probably play them again at some point...like at any point that you turn the TV on this weekend. :)

I have been debating on where to put it, what to say in it, and how to voice my opinion in this thread, but damn let’s just talk about it.

The kiss. Brittany, Christina, and Madonna.

To me it will go down as one of the dumbest publicity stunts ever. Let's all go up on stage and act like complete sluts so we can sell some more records! What a wonderful idea! Lets forget that most of our fans are young girls between 9-13 not grown men between 18-50 who were the ones that kiss was for.


I have tons more to say about it but I would like to hear from you all as well. I know a lot of you guys loved it. Free porn. I would like to hear from both sides though. TFP Ladies, how do you feel about this?

Don't get me wrong I am all for freedom of expression and all that but this was just for sales and I feel they need to set a better example for young girls

For your last comment, publicity does not necessary mean you are going out and buying their music. Although, the fact that you saw them kiss keeps their name in your head as pop singers, when you go buy a gift for someone it just might be one of those CDs.

Foremost, it was indeed a publicity stunt. The fact that we're talking about it means that it worked. But I agree that it was stupid and totally blatant. I mean, you've got Madonna who is hearing the tick-tick-tick of getting older and not as cool as she was. Then you've got Britney and Christina who are DYING to be "recognized as women" (i.e., get naked) and outdo the other. So, this was just waiting to happen - or something like this.

Now, as a man, I agree that it was hot. But, I DO NOT agree that it needs to be on MTV. If I want to rent a video or buy a magzine, I can. My kids cannot. (I don't have any, but they would not be able to because of me.) So, whether it is two women or two men, I don't want to see that on MTV because kids are watching that. Yes, I've revealed that I'm anti-homosexuality. But MTV's all about the shock value (God knows they're not about MUSIC!!!), so we'll probably see more and worse in the near future.

I'd like to think it was Madonna's idea. She's smart like that.

Regardless of whether you liked it or not...you're talking about "the kiss." It's being discussed here. It's on the front page of the newspapers, and it's the most popular photo on Yahoo. It's excellent publicity for Madonna (who has proved that she can still get people talking after this many years), Britney (who is slowly climbing back on top of the publicity machine) and Christina (who can benefit from sharing a stage with either of those two).

Oh yeah, and did I mention that it's excellent publicity for MTV and is just another reason why people keep watching the VMAs every year, and why people will watch NEXT year?

Why is everybody shocked that it was done for publicity, or for record sales? Why the hell ELSE would they do it? Because they're madly in love with each other? Because they want to empower lesbians across the country? Hell, no! Because it's PRESS, and regardless of whether you liked it or not, when people mention Madonna and Britney in the same sentence, you're gonna think about that kiss.

As for their fan bases being young - the only person we're talking about here is Britney. Madonna is no longer aimed at the youngsters, and Xtina gave up that image a long time ago.

Britney played the "kids" market with her first CD and since then, has been targeted at an older market. It's not like this kiss is suddenly a new sexy direction for her. Her last few videos (especially "I'm A Slave 4 U") were plenty sexy in that direction.

Darkblack, if you want to address the double standard, you're talking about a much greater issue than the VMAs. It's a common societal "norm" that two girls kissing is "hot," whilst two guys kissing is "gross." Of course that doesn't make it right. I'd love to see the tables turned. But sadly, it just ain't gonna happen. Not yet. Steps ARE leaning in that direction - Queer As Folk, for example, which would NEVER have made it to Showtime a few years ago - but we still have a LONG way to go.

As for my own opinion on "The Kiss," I loved it. They worked "the machine" and gave us all something to talk about. That's what the VMAs are about for many people, myself included - about the moments that you're not expecting. It's obviously not about the music!

Unfourtunately, I wish these media attention seekers would lay off using the lesbian image. There's a whole culture [lesbianism, bi-sexuality] that's being manipulated and twisted to record industry's benefit.
