Requiem for a Dream
Any fans? It was truly amazing when I first saw it, I had to buy it the next day on DVD. Very gripping.
Excellent direction and score as well, the Kronos Quartet did some great work.
What a movie, The DVD extras were great. Loved when they explained the uses of the color red.
Loved Pi...Requiem was good, well directed and acted, but a bit disturbing....all in all, I dont think it was as good as Pi.
it was the first movie i saw from aranofski and i really liked the visual style. it isn't a feelgood movie but it captures the perfect tone for the subject it concerns.
Ellen Burstyn is phenomenal in this movie. |
Yes, that was a good movie,
The storyline with the mother was kick ass! |
Fantastic movie. The ending was extremely touching, and I loved the surreal style.
One of the most disturbing movies I ever saw, but it was also really good.
that was a hard one to watch, but very good.
yeah it's a great film.
i was cringing at the end with the whole arm and electroshock thing...but it's a good movie to get your kids off drugs
All I know about this movie is that Jenifer Conelly has some great nude scenes in it. :)
mute76, that got my attention.
'ass to ass'
heh |
I'm sure I'm weird, but Requiem for a Dream is my favorite movie...ever. Seeing it made me want to direct, and that's why I moved a thousand miles away from home to go to film school. I really liked the insert from the DVD, with the "this should be required viewing for high school kids" review, and Aronofsky's love for the book and how he dropped out of college because of it.
My friends all think I'm freaky for loving it so much, but I practically force anyone I become friends with to watch it. Hmmmm I think I've introduced at least 10 people to it, who in turn have introduced others... |

what kind of movie would u dream to direct one day ? I also studied film school, but I ended up in IT. I lost my drive, might try something once i'm old & wise enough tough. |
I was under the influence of a number of things when I saw this movie for the first time. I'm amazed I got my head around it and I loved every minute of it.
Brilliant, brilliant movie, also leads to great discussions with friends, such as "Who got f_cked up the most?" etc. |
The scenes with the Mother and the shock therapy was very hard to watch. Excellent flick!
i cant watch that movie again. it was so disturbing. it makes me glad i wouldn't and haven't tried any of those hard drugs.
I am currently in film school and Requiem has definitly fueled my fire. I really didnt find this movie disturbing, I know everyone does, but I just thought it was so great, that it didnt seem disturbing to me at all.

In answer to FlorentinoAriza, I've always been a huge fan of mind fuck movies, like Pi. I hope that I can learn enough to incorporate the excellent cinematography that directors like Aronofsky and his dp Matthew Libatique use. I want to make a movie that will be revolutionary, like Pulp Fiction. Because I am who I am, I will probably end up incorporating subject matter that is a part of my life, like lesbianism, etc.
Clearly I am trying to incorporate a little too much, but I wanted to give you a broad idea of the spectrum of my influences. I hope that in taking insight from the movies mentioned that I don't someday create a regurgitation of them all. blech. But to bring this post back around the subject at hand, errrrr, Aronofsky is a visionary and I aspire to follow in his footsteps. ummmm that should do it? ^_^ |
I really didnt like Pi all that much, the black and white got to be a headache.
Yeh, the b&w sucked, but i think it was more a budgetary limitation...
My fascination with the movie stems from the fact that I love Chaos theory...and this movie was a great study in chaos theory's effect on religion, computers and economics.... |
This movie changes your life. You see it, then you sit there and stare... and then you look at your life and try to think of ways you can avoid everything that went on in that movie.
Requiem for a dream is clearly the best 'drug movie' ever!
An absolutely amazing movie in all regards. The end, with the combination of the music as well as the visuals, make for one of the most disturbing sequences I've seen in film.
Everybody needs to see it at least once. Even though one may hate it, nobody can deny its brilliance. |
I love that movie. I think it was the single most disturbing thing I've ever watched, tho. (plus, it bothered me when I was watching Hulk, every damn time I saw JC I kept hearing that old man's voice...)
That was one of the stranges/most disturbing movie I have watched to date. But a great movie none the less
I have the movie, but I have yet to watch it.
Dissenting opinion:
I thought it was overrated, unrealistic, and not nearly as disturbing as heavy drug addiction truly is. In my filmmaker fantasies, I've got a heroin movie that makes "Requiem For A Dream" look more like "Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams." sk |
