Movies you've seen recently

Anybody seen any good movies lately?

Spanky Johnson 04-19-2003 07:53 AM

I was blown away by The Ring -- saw it on DVD recently and I thought it was the best horror movie I'd seen in a long time. Very, very creepy. My wife found it boring though.

John Henry 04-19-2003 08:15 AM

I've been watching Apocalypse Now again. Brill

Porkchop 04-19-2003 09:54 AM

Just watched 24 hr party people very good
Also an oldie but goldie Salvador with James Woods.

fearofmear 04-19-2003 11:18 AM

I saw "Igby Goes Down" w/ Kieran Culkin and Susan Sarandon recently on DVD. Very good.

BubblegumTeflon 04-19-2003 11:25 AM

"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Nuts. Totally nuts. I was in the right mood to watch it though (you have to be), so it was insanely funny.

World's King 04-19-2003 11:35 AM

I Spy.

It was the Owen Wilson, Eddy Murphy flop. It's was really bad.

Omar12 04-19-2003 11:42 AM

Boiler Room - it was actually a good movie.
Anger Management - I laughed a lot in the movie, really funny.
Frailty - great twist, good movie.

0001 04-19-2003 12:43 PM

Phone Booth: very cool. Go watch.

bundy 04-19-2003 02:59 PM

last film i saw was Ned Kelly.
pretty good, i mean they did a better job than i thought they would.
Ledger was really quite good.

oh, and i saw Mulholland Drive again last night. absolute whacking mind flip!

Drider_it 04-19-2003 03:31 PM

Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch

somewhat linked by each other but funny as hell

The Emperors New Groove

love that movie.. "dont tell me, we're about to go over a water fall.. uh huh.. big sharp rocks.. yep.. bring it on"

Mr.Deflok 04-19-2003 03:54 PM

Brotherhood of the Wolf: Worst fuck-wad ever
Shanghai Knights: Great fun!
Spirited Away: Breathtaking
X-Men 1.5: epitomy of cool
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Great fun!
Bourne Identity: Suprise coolisticness
Dumb and Dumber: Best Farelly flick ever
And tonight I'll probably watch Yojimbo or Rashomon.

BonneFan 04-19-2003 06:30 PM

Bourne Identity on DVD and Jackass on DVD were the last DVD movies I watched, Jackass was fucked up! the only part that I couldn't take was the paper cuts vignette.

OUCH

Last film in theatres...umm, its been a while, Gangs of New York.
I waiting for the new Matrix movie before I go back.

Quadraton 04-19-2003 07:53 PM

Cube^2: Hypercube

It's a 'B' movie, and the acting isn't always up to par, but I thought the plot held its own, and the ending was disturbing.

Reese 04-20-2003 01:57 AM

Just watched an Old Favorite tonight called Walkabout

lemme see.. I watched Far from Heaven. Very different role for Quaid. I thought it was good but not deserving of all the rewards.

Another Heavenly movie called Other side of heaven. A religious movie from Disney(gasp) Its a true story of a Missionary in Tonga in the 1950s. It was a very good movie based on a true story.

The Transporter. I have to say that I was pretty surprised this movie was pretty good. Better than any of Vin Diesel's crap. I don't know why it was compared to him anyways. Ugh

Grondar 04-20-2003 04:25 AM

Anger Management - Good movie, a lot of cameos and a lot of twists. Kind of made my head spin.

The Core - Went in expecting crap, actually enjoyed the movie.

Major League - Rented it last week, watched it the other night. Comedy gold.

The Hot Chick - Funniest movie I have seen in a long time. Thus earning the boldface. This movie is funny. My friends refuse to see it based on it having Rob Schneider and it's "lame" plot, but this movie is very funny. Me and my friend laughed aloud to the point of embarassment in the theatre. :)

Eiresol 04-20-2003 11:17 AM

The last few I saw were
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (on television) - Thought it was crap to be honest.
Big Trouble In Little China (on DVD) - great film, even if Kurt Russell is in it. :P
Brother (on DVD) - cool film about Yakuza and Mafia.
The Recruit (in the Cinema) - ok til the end, then it just sucked.

snowy 04-20-2003 12:22 PM

Watched the 4+ hour long BBC-produced version of "Pride and Prejudice" last night. Excellent work. I really enjoyed it, and Colin Firth is always a treat ;)

tommyboy 04-20-2003 12:25 PM

Just watched Storm of the century, a stephen king movie, very cool.

Lebell 04-20-2003 04:05 PM

Just saw Anger Management.

It was much better than I expected. I may have to re-evaluate my opinion of Adam Sandler.

Highly recommend.

lionrock 04-20-2003 06:50 PM

Recently saw City of God. This is one of those movies that changes you. It's a Brazillian flick about life in the ghetto outside of Rio. It's based on a true story. One of the scenes is in the top 20 disturbing things I've scene on film. It's like a Hardcore version of Traffic mixed with Boys in the Hood, as filmed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch). There is a somewhat positive ending.

Also saw Spirited Away. A bit long, and really made me want to smoke dope again.

I agree with the above poster Igby is pretty cool. Much more interesting than "Tadpole"

Bowling for Columbine is a fine film. Moore is the left's answer to Limbaugh. It asks some tough questions, and give some not so satisfying answers, but makes you think.

skinnedmink 04-20-2003 07:05 PM

Loved "Brotherhood of the Wolf" if your into reading some translations. The Ring is good but seemed to be missing something (Ringu had siquals so that's not that supriseing.) Always a Office Space fan. Want to note another good movie, Blazing Saddles.

WildZero 04-20-2003 08:03 PM

I saw "Ichi the Killer" two nights ago.

Cool Japanese action/horror/yakuza movie, check it out if you have a chance. It ran a little long, but was really entertaining.

Atropos4 04-20-2003 08:06 PM

i just bought Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets....i love that movie...I've already seen it in theaters but i'm a huge Harry Potter fan.

kipperoo3 04-20-2003 08:57 PM

I just saw the Transporter. It was terrible, it wouldn't even pass as a made for TV movie!

Hal Incandenza 04-20-2003 09:24 PM

Speaking of Fear and Loathing, last night I saw Lost in La Muncha, the documentary about Terry Gilliam's failed attempt to make a movie based on Don Quixote. It's pretty good.

teflonian 04-20-2003 09:41 PM

Last saw "Anger Management" and thought all the cameos were funny but seemed a bit forced. The first three quarters were actually pretty funny, but the last quarter ruined it...

Before that I saw "Agent Cody Banks" with my 8 year old nephew. It was a great movie to watch with an 8 year old and because my hopes weren't very high I really enjoyed it.

Mario 04-21-2003 04:26 AM

Just got finished watching Cabin Boy, the movie is soooo badm it is actually good. One of my favorite B movies, and it has a great bit with David Letterman,

Atropos4 06-06-2003 07:15 PM

Rented 8 Mile and Jackass

8 Mile was pretty good.

Jackass was fucking hillarious!!
The stunt that bothered me the most was the pee pee snow cone. Still makes me shudder.

Great Scott 06-06-2003 07:34 PM

Saw X-men two last week in the cinema and was pleasantly surprised. I thought 1 was just another lame comic adaptation. Two had it all though, foreshadowing, archtypes, philisophical conundrums, likeable charcaters, action, cinematography, the list goes on. My wife on the other hand saw none of this but enjoyed it anyway...

Stiltzkin 06-06-2003 08:04 PM

Movie I saw most recently is Matrix: Reloaded and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yup, I don't get out much. Been meaning to watch Bruce Almighty though.

Tyler90 06-06-2003 08:37 PM

The only ones I've seen lately are X2 and Finding Nemo. Both were a lot of fun and were "DVD-worthy". Looking forward to Terminator 3.

Mr.Deflok 06-07-2003 04:10 AM

Good to see people awaiting T3, definately my most anticipated movie off all time (second to the Star Wars prequels actually).

Just watched Phone Booth and though it took a while I just saw Kurosawa's clever Yojimbo. Both outstanding films, especially Yojimbo.

Will be watching Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and Human Traffic soon.

Frowning Budah 06-07-2003 07:24 AM

Drider_it I saw both "Barrels" and "Snatched" and I thought they were hilarious my wife just didn't get them.
Saw "Bruce Almighty" last week, actually pretty funny. Not a big Carrey fan.

madsenj37 06-08-2003 03:04 AM

The Rules of Attraction - I am making a Divx right now.
The Transporter - Made a Divx of it.
Red Dragon - Made a Divx of it.
Igby Goes Down - I liked it. Was what Rushmore should have been. Also reminded me of the Royal Tennenbaums for some reason.
The Italian Job- Saw it in the theater, really liked it.

rundmv 06-11-2003 12:07 PM

Identity - I hadn't heard too much about it, but my gf really wanted to see it. Turned out to be a very good movie.

Bruce Almighty - I liked it. Very similar to Liar Liar.

On cable:

Jeepers Creepers, Joy Ride, & 13 Ghosts - Good thrillers. Worth a rental.

eyeronic 06-11-2003 08:21 PM

Rented Pumpkin with Christina Ricci. Boy did it miss the mark. It was trying to be a cult film on par with Harold and Maude, but failed miserably. Boy is it bad. You can download it on KaZaA if you don't believe me.

fckfckfckfck 06-11-2003 08:48 PM

Boondock saints. One amazing ass flick. Seriously, if you like pulp fiction, res dogs, snatch/lock stock, or movies period, see this movie, great action, awesome humor. :) Buy it at best buy, only 10 bucks!

oscar0308 06-12-2003 10:29 AM

just saw Nemo last weekend with my kids. they loved it. my 4 Y.O. daughter had me laughing my ass off. when nemo was captured by the dentist, she turns to my wife and i and says, 'uh no, nemo's gonna be fish sticks.' that was the funniest part of the movie.. for me anyway.

overall though, very good anyway. pixar just cant miss it seems.

also saw Phonebooth a while back. i havent been so entertained by a movie like that in a long time. very good pacing.

brandon11983 06-13-2003 02:52 PM

The Hot Chick was surprisingly funny. I loved the guy/girl headbutt at the end.
